You need 8 segments, you get 1!!! per completed puzzle, if you want at least 3 weapons, you need 24, and in the end, you can get another random 2 other mats you dont want from completing these.
So Fdev expects me to do nothing for a week just keep relogging at ancient ruin site if i want to get 3 weapons... am i correct ?

I skipped the turreted gun but I took the powerplant instead, and that took my an evening, maybee 5 or 6 hours. But yeah, I relogged about 100 times, apparentyl thats the way it is meant to be done. But I got most of the stuff from the obilisks, easier to to repeatedly.

Nah, it's more effective to fly around the different sites. Makes money from exploration and Guardian Weapons are pretty sweet.
I put two Guardian Plasma Chargers on my iCourier: fully charged the made an eagle explode in two shots and will drop the shields on a Dangerous NPC Python.
At least until someone complains and they're nerfed.
Can't wait to get engineering for them!

Well no, I assume they expect you to collect the required number of parts over multiple visits to multiple sites and then create your weapons when you've acquired enough parts through 'normal' gameplay.

Obviously some people will do that, whilst others will have stopped doing anything else in the game until they have collected what they need for them. That's the problem when you're designing game content for a broad range of players; different people will place different priorities on different aspects of it.

Note - I'm not saying you're wrong to want to go pick up your new Guardian weapons asap, blaze your own trail and all that, but to say 'FDev expect me to spend a week relogging' is really a bit silly. It's probably more the case that 'FDev are resigned to the fact that some players will inevitably....'

If it's 6 hours of OCD-reset-the-instance-get-it-asap activity, doesn't that probably translate into *months* of doing nothing but derp around Guardian Sites if you're doing it semi-organically? I mean, realistically would a normal player *ever* acquire the required materials through 'normal' gameplay?

Seems like this kind of content is balanced specifically with min-maxers in mind.

Indeed, in trying to complete the Decrypting the Guardians Mission for Ram Tah, I incidentally came back and could unlock the fixed Gauss Cannon, Fixed Plasma Charger and the Power Plant, which was a nice bonus since I ended up not completing the mission

Just to be clear,the cost is not per weapon or module.

Its an unlock cost not a crafting cost. Once unlocked you can buy as many as you want from outfitting.

That was a bug, which has been patched. You can now only get the data from scanning the central data point, which only gives one unit. I’m happy I unlocked them before it was known to be a bug, I still have 30+ of each type.

You really start to wonder, how many players would “organically” get the materials and data when you see the site, do the charge loop, scan the data point, then leave and come back to do it all over again +20 times over when you’ve already seen everything interesting?

I'm obviously an explorer, yet to get upgrades I need to get around faster, FSD, thrusters, scanners, I am expected to do non-exploration oriented content.

Your point being that you should be able to get everything through combat, then that also apply to every other profession. Now I am not against that, and as an explorer I have no need for weapons that's true, but I do have a need for other things that are made harder because I have to start doing things I find boring. I think the effort to push everyone to do everything is probably misguided and a good system to allow us to collect what we need doing what we like would be nice, but it would have to be properly designed and interesting, I think that's the hard part.

You are not exploring

You are grave robbing and strip mining archaeological sites so you can have the same weapons as the last people to give the Thargoids a What for

And I don't mean that in any disparaging way.

Its fairly simple,frontier want to give you a compelling reason to "explore" the new content.

Personally i dont mind it,ive repeated the guardian structures a few times with friends so the mat gathering hasnt been to bad. Could probably be dialled back a bit but its still early days so lets see how it evolves

You don't. Haven't had a gun on my ship for years. Despite veiled warnings about 'not going out there unarmed', nobody has yet to report anything anywhere (thargs / Pleiades excepted). The Pilot's Federation in their wisdom have simply permit locked any area of space that could be dangerous and/or interesting.

You are correct, and because the Guardian Device drops 3 blueprints, rather than the 2 that we need. The time it takes to farm the data is extremely frustrating and tedious to do since the recent patch.


By some simple math, there is a 1 in 2 (33%) and 2 in 3 (66%) chance of getting the data you need, but depending on RNG, it may give you a Vessel Blueprint which is useless for the time being. But what if you're farming the Guass Cannon, the Plasma Charger, and the Power Plant? How many logs could that take by scanning the device per 1 data? Here is an example using the RSM Editor:

So if it takes 66 times to get all the blueprints you need, and if each log took 5 minutes to complete, then it would take around 5 hours and 30 minutes (can take more if taking breaks). So it can be quite time consuming to do, but overall how you get the data determines on RNG and luck.. so the number of times to relog can exceed to 90 or 120 if RNG is not being nice.
