A problem with Space Legs™

Look right, select modules panel, click repair vs get up, walk, find the tools, go to the hole, start patching, and go back.. mmmm....

Hellion has a total different pace than ED. if getting legs means slowing down ED gameplay I'd say lets get a few modellers to work on the ED ships for hellion and we can have the best of both :)

Space legs just isn't happening. So many wasted pages on a feature we'll never see.

We still have placeholders from the first iteration of the game for heavens sake.

The biggest thing about space legs i see is sorting out or unifying the field of view / scale issues that somehow never seem to not be there.

A dumb guess also, but i really doubt they've modelled the interior of anything accept the anaconda or maybe the corvette.

One can only hope though. All i want to do is get out of my seat, go out into the back of my cobra 4 and make a cup of tea. Maybe look at my fishtank, or take a nap. Bonus points for doing it in orbit of a gas giant. Thats it. Well, i also want to do something like the campsite mods in skyrim outside of my ship on a planet surface, but i can understand if thats a stretch.

Ever thought of space legs being something like they did in the first mass effect? Station = citadel, running around to several offices to get missions, pay bounties, shop stuff, outfitting? would be a first step. second step could be onboarding srv for materials etc.

whatever.

People would do the citadel once, then get bored of it. Why spend time running about getting stuff when you can just click a few buttons on the station menu and do it all much more efficiently. Novelty would soon wear off and no-one would be using it.

Yes this^... but my fear is that it will be incorporated into the game so you'll have to get out and walk to different places to take care of your business... that would ruin this game in my opinion.

Anyway... I'm going to use my space legs to go get another coffee... cheers.

TBH, I would rather not have any FPS elements in Elite. Elite is about space and ships, and should remain that way. All I want out of Elite feet is the ability to get up and walk around my ship, both inside and out. Also be able to go to some sort of social zone to meet up with other CMDRs.

Having a garage at your home station would be a plus. A place where you walk up to the ship you want to use, board it, and go.

Piloting a spaceship is a task (in supercruise, at least) that requires all almost none of your attention (Hutton Orbital runs notwithstanding I'm looking at you). Automated reboot/repair functions are accessible through the systems interface panel.

There, fixed it for you ;)

Plenty things could be done with space legs.

Think of stations as Judge Dredd type megablocks. Missions appearing telling you to get down to block C12 and help security deal with a massive firefight going on or help the maddos fight off the security.

That would be a start. A great start.

Space Legs will never happen. It's been mentioned on kickstarter videos, but it never appeared to be something they'll work on. It is, however, something to look forward to in the future if it ever approaches their roadmaps.

And if you "die" in this game you may still respawn with another ship.

I fail to see the relevance in relation to the OP's point regarding Space Legs and "space realism", I suppose.

Are we really that desperate to avoid having Space Legs in Elite that we'll sink to a ridiculous example of realism in a space video game?

P.S. I look forward to all the hater comments about "space barbies" and all that when space legs is introduced... not if.

I don't care about space legs combat but I would like space legs to repair and refuel ships. If I'm exploring and my ship gets damaged I want to float out and repair it Or hook up a fuel hose to anot her ship to refuel it.

I know a lot of CMDRs don't want to leave the cockpit but a lot of these same CMDR's complain about the game being too boring and grindy. Perhaps it is boring and grindy because everything is done through menu text instead of gameplay.

At a minmum I would like to see space legs replace repair and fuel limpets.

That being said I don't think space legs is coming. It would be a lot of work. Just think of the Beluga, FD would have to model all of the pasengers and place the correct amount in your ship every time you took a mission.
(On a side note I don't think landing on earth like world's is coming either, maybe I'm too negative.)

Space legs could be married to being able to buy an apartment inside a station and/or build your own tiny personal outposts on planets.

...which would then mean they can sell 1000s of cosmetic items from the Frontier store and make some serious moolah!

Outpost functionality could also introduce other gameplay elements like surface mining.

Wake up, get out of bed. Run down to summon ship. Run to airlock. Wait for airlock to cycle. Run outside, find ship and run to it. Get in ship, wait for getting in ship animation to finish. Walk to cockpit, sit in seat and wait for ship start up animation to complete.
Then you can fly your ship.

I got annoyed the first time they made me pre-flight my Sidewinder. This would be infuriating.

One or two balance passes over the missions will fix that. Its all credits per hour :)

Since when did being a member of the Pilot's Federation morph into being part of the police/military? Why would the System Authority call on some unknown ship Commander to take up arms and assist them in any way shape or form?

Pretty much this imo.

I'm all for space legs but since most of the stuff you can do in ED is attainable with a few clicks, then where's the need to get out of your ship or SRV? For this reason, space legs will the be the last thing on FD's mind (if at all). :)

If space legs is to be a thing, then it would have to open up more options like horizons does.

Meeting faction reps could give more mission options such as different rewards, negotiation over higher rewards and so forth.

As to missions, well there is only so much you can do in your SRV and ship. So using space legs as a continuation of those missions to make them a bit more interesting.

Which could include boarding abandoned wrecked ships. Use those new scanning features with the mega ships to pinpoint areas where you can board the ship. Use a limpet to hack the terminal to open the airlock, EVA to the other ship and explore the inside to get to your mission objective, over come natural and possibly not natural obstacles on the way. This is just one example.

You would obviously be paid more for doing more, but that stands to reason. No different to real life.

It would be hell of a shame if this wasn't in the game because there's nothing I'd like to do more in ED than what you've said, some of which has been said from Alpha/PB. I still believe, though, that this will be last on FD's to do list. :)
