Griefer Warning - Guardian ruins sites

Not that it has anything to do with my point...

And why shouldn't PvPers use other modes to gather? The people doing that probably figure after three years "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!"
It does have something to do with your point concerning advantages in one mode over another. Farming materials at Dav's in Open or Solo is two different ballgames right after an engineer update. So is visiting Engineer bases.
Have you played "Spot the Outlaw PvPer" since 3.0 was released? ;)

An excuse is all they need. In fact, they don't even need that.
Exactly, they don't need an excuse, but they keep coming up with silly ones all the time. Why not just own up to the fact that they like shooting others players, or their ships, because it gives them some form of pleasure? It's not that hard really.
"Hey, I shot you because I thought it was fun. Just the kinda guy I am."
Instead they show how much salt they can farm when communicating off the forums, but pretend to be role playing in the forums. They could just own who they are, how they get their jollies off in the game. They'd get some flak for it for sure, but they like that anyhow and will just brand it as salt, and atleast it's honest.

In case you haven't noticed; I hate hypocrites ;)

FDEV should have crafted some story beats and missions that would have encouraged commanders to protect the barnacles, maybe some ecological factions, some religious cults who worship aliens. Actual missions, characters and motivations.
This is the thing. The devs kept silence about if it was a good or bad thing; to shoot the Barnacles. They were asked and refused to answer either way. The way I see it, humans killed and plundered the barnacles for the alloys etc. and caused the grief the stations etc. are getting now.

I am the OP. Just a couple of points:
I wasn't messing with the Alien Tech in the Guardian Structures, I was doing the Ram Tah mission to scan 101 obelisks for the data, I was at a Guardians Ruins site, not a Structure
He attacked my ship first because I got the "Ship under attack" warning. I managed to get back into my ship and it had 10% hull left and alas, exploded within the next second or so. Didn't get chance to take off.

If this Commander is serious about "protecting the Alien Ruins from defilers" then surely a message to an offending player saying leave this site within the next X number of minutes or I will shoot you or your ship ??
That might have done the trick !
From a role play perspective; a warning would have been appropriate. However: That would also would have said: I am here and now I have lost the element of surprise.

I wound say that if you get a warning by your ship, that it is under attack; you should be able to dis-miss it and let it send its self out of harms way. Or as a precaution, dismiss it anyway. An empty ship just sitting there, is like leaving you wallet on the table out side the coffee house; when you pop back in for another coffee. You would expect it to be gone when you came back.

Laol. Ive ben smashTing kedz at those places for dais s0n. If u r in ur ship or u r in the ground, i dong care. I see sum ked, that ked gits smashT ez pz, all dey, evry dey.

The goalpost always seems to change.

Don't attack me for no reason...
If you have a valid RP reason it would be ok...
If you just admit it's for the lulz, it would be ok...

But somehow it never seems to turn out OK.

BTW, this might be a little tangential but my dream as a pirate is to happen upon someone, hatchbreak them, and then have them throw a fit over the loss of mission cargo. It would be the sweetest pull ever.

My personal stance is quite simple: if you go out of your way to be a bunghole, you are a bunghole. For example, someone in a high-end combat ship and 2000+ hours of experience shouldn't one-shot noobwinders. I dont care if they do it 'for the lolz' or 'to avenge their father who was killed by noobwinders'; its just lame any way you look at it. Not sure why that is such a controversial position, to be honest. :S

I plan open exclusively. And I can count on one hand the number of times I've been straight up ganked.

If people were just the slightest situationally aware they wouldn't have this problem. And besides playing in Solo or a private group is such a boring and sterile environment in my opinion. But to each their own.

I think they're asking for consistent RP, not for the shooter to make up a new one for every scenario. One is playing a role, the other is creating an excuse.

I was doing this ever since the first guardian site was added, with breaks. Nothing is being made up on the go. I used to only kill SRVs using my own SRV, but back then we had only one only one guardian site so I didn't need to relocate daily. Outside of guardian sites, I pretty much never attack first.

That wouldn't happen to be the same PvPers who have spent the last few weeks in Solo gathering mats and re-engineering their ships, would it? ;)

Regrinded mine in open, got some vids of getting attacked while collecting mats and made NaCl run away too. Not my problem.

Your reference to this thread elsewhere indicates otherwise. Just saying.

Sources needed.

In all honesty, you're doing a bad job at roleplaying it when nobody knows about it. Do you even send them a message? Any comms at all? If you did, it wasn't apparant in the OP, and you would be one of the very few.

Wasn't a reference to you, but to Jason's comment about people complaining that doing BGS/PP from Solo/PG is an unfair advantage. Nothing to do with you, as I atleast don't remember seeing you contend it.

"You lot" lol.

Who are "you lot"?

I was about to type "I don't know who is worse, the griefers or you lot!" & tbh, now I'm not sure which one of us should be most worried about this telepathic concord....Jason or I?

Probably Jason!

Indigo Wyrd & GG7 are always good for passive-aggressive handbags at 10 paces....but look on the bright side, at least GG7 didn't drop his PC spec randomly into the thread on this occasion! Hehehe

I found a pic of them both at a conference on the 'evils of open':

Genuine IRL LOL at that one.

I've discovered a surprisingly effective counter to his 'OMG LOOK AT ME I HAVE A 1080Ti' that pervades just about every other sentence he writes.

He plays on a 60hz screen. All that hardware and he gimps it by playing on a 60hz screen.

It's like buying a Huracán and putting bicycle wheels on it.

No need to send messages. I play my game, they play theirs, none of my business. I used to send messages back then when the ruins were added, but it would only give them more time to log.

Nothing that would imply that my intension was specifically to mine salt there :]

I don’t get the big deal with the 1080Ti. It may have something to do with the fact that my rig has three Titan X cards installed...

Griefers will be where ever players congregate. Some options to deal with this:

1. Dismiss your ship.
2. Bring friends along to defend your ship.
3. Go to Solo.

What you cannot do: change the behavior of these bottom dwellers.

I ahve been to the ruins and seen other players. ITs peacful and we cooperate but you have to aware of trolls. They are a minority but a very vocal one.

REMEMBER COMMANDERS. Always dismiss your ship for safety reasons! Or travel in a wing like I do and sick 3 elite fighters on them while boosting away whenever they try to go for the mothership... Like an angry swarm of bee's...

Solo is the only real option if you want to be safe. Especially with guardian sites as you need to have your ship nearby for the objects you bring with you to scan the obelisks.

If open is the only way for you, be prepared to dismiss your ship and wait for the attacker to go away. If the attacker comes in a dedicated warship and your ship is a dedicated explorer, you might not have the time as the ship will not be able to survive long enough to depart...

Anyway, I took my chances and had a good time in open, lots of nice people around.
