Docking request denied

I have only had it happen at small orbital stations, never at a large starport.

The small stations only have so many landing pads, so if there are NPC ships docking, you will have to wait. I generally just sit there for 1 min or so and then try again and it usually works.

Lol. No. No naughtiness here. Lol
Just doing data and courier missions.
Yes its a small dock. Its happened about 3 times. Once waiting a bit and continually requesting finally got it to work the other two times about 3 or 4 min wait and requesting nothing. But relog worked.

Check your contact list if there's any ships, there's a chance one is docked in the pad you want to get on. Just wait till he leaves and then you can request again.

Especially if you're flying a medium size ship, that happens - the outposts usually only have one medium sized pad, and if that's occupied, you're stuck. Especially if there already are a few other ships queued up.

If you've time critical deliveries to make it may be worthwhile switching Mode - going to solo would remove the possiblity of an AFK Comander.

Hey everyone is anyone else have rare occasions where you continually get docking request denied until you relog

Regularly at CGs, especially if they are based at an outpost. Though also when I am in a large ship at a normal port. Usually I'll hang around for up to half an hour to wait for a pad, as for some reason I quite like watching other traffic in busy stations... No accounting for taste. :D If I do get bored waiting, I'll just switch mode (e.g. hop into solo, dock, then go back to open).

If you get to an outpost and its medium pad is blocked. Get up fairly close to the outpost, at least close enough to scan the NPC blocking the pad. Keep requesting docking. You will usually get a couple more rejects, then the NPC will start to leave. A few seconds after the NPC leaves, the pad is usually OK for you to dock. Occasionally a second NPC will exit the same pad (without arriving - even NPCs can mode swap). Worst I've had is 3 NPCs in a row.

I do remember getting docking request denied at a large station once, long ago at the cg to build Obsidian Orbital the place was so chuck full of cmdrs every large landing pad was occupied :D

I don't understand why on Earth they deny docking.... It happens to me too, everytime I'm in open at an outpost or an Engineer facility...I have to switch mode which is a pity...it breaks inmersion too. Have to run away from open if I want to be able to land.

I'd rather enter in a queue...instead of deniying docking, they should attribute us a number/position. "You will be attributed a landing pad soon, waiting time: 5 min". Of course, some people won't want to wait but I guess it'd be fairly easy to implement and would add to realism.

if the pads are blocked they are blocked, that is realism
how you want to asign a time to a cmdr parking on a pad?

Yeah 100% agree, I don't think it breaks immersion at all, infact it adds to it. I usually just wait to be honest, it makes sense that an Outpost with a single medium pad will have someone using it some times, thankfully NPC's don't take anywhere close as long as CMDRs and seem to have a set time span they're docked for.
Requesting is usually accepted a couple of seconds after they've cleared the landing markers. At which point if you land, the floor will pop down and turn around, always fun having the floor rise to me and see whether I'm in the correct spot. :D

An approximate time... Just as the queue for buying gig tickets online. Till the pad is clear and then you receive your pad assignment. Instead of having to request docking 15 times till there's one available.

I'm talking about open and CMDRs precisely. Having to log out breaks immersion in my case. But knowing your position in a queue would prevent from spamming the docking request and abandon the place. IMHO.

At stations they used to have, you are in a queue when using dc. Why dont they have that at outposts.

Yeah, that is a queue for entering the station given there are enough docking pads. If all docking pads are taken, you still get docking denied.

If all pads are taken by commanders, there is no way the game can know or estimate how long it will take before these commanders lift off or log out - especially since entering the hangar does not release the pad.

You don't want to get the "Estimated Waiting time: 5 minutes" message when I am sitting in the dock for hours watching the ships roll in...
