OK FDEV time for atmo landings

I think they'll come up with some restriction about landing on ELWs or only being able to land within the vicinity of settlements on ELWs. All the major powers will come together to agree on a "prime directive" on steroids as a convenient explanation of why we can't land on them. Grass and trees will be placed around settlements on ELWs, god weapons will kill you after one warning once you leave the 20km zone and you'll have to follow a cone of permission to get into orbit. Fences around the edge and no fauna. Exclusion zone around uninhabited ELWs.

It occurred to me that driving in a brain tree forest on a green planet (as exists in 3.0) already gets them part way down that path.

So why not expand the concept? Extend the forest. Add other tree types. Add some water.

Whilst the infrastructure improvements for 3.0 are worthy causes, they would have been better off adding new mechanics.

thats not that easy, ptoptr athmosphere landing and generated terrain needs time, the current non athmopheric landing is already quite shallow. let them do and finish this first before we allow access to more planets

I can't help thinking Legs would be easier to implement (and with associated game features) compared to atmospheric planets with life.

I bought ED 3yrs ago then upgraded to Horizons 2 years ago upon release. It was told to us that ATMO landings would be in the future. If Star Citizen (CRAP) can do it. Then so can u guys. I do understand that you are working on the new 3.0 to fix the bugs. Which is appreciated.

Did you put the $5 in the jar, then? :) Or is it $500?

That's a splendid idea! Can't wait to wander for hours shooting at rng rocks or scooping up random canisters of tea and biowaste, but this time with a better more colorful skybox.

If we consider exploration at times is simply about finding nice variation of vistas etc, then atmostpheric landings adds numerous more inputs to create nice feedback loops for such vistas.

eg: Landing on a planet in poor conditions, it's raining. The rain has cleared when you land next to a huge lake on the dark side of the planet. To the east you can see aurora borealis dancing in the sky, and reflected off the lake. To the north is a huge 1km high waterfall, with the water falling in slow motion due to the low gravity. Huge clouds of spray surround where it enters the lake. To the west is the storm you earlier flew through with periodic bolts of lightening dropping to the surface.

Yes, you could see it as new ways to pick up rocks. I see it as a whole new layer of variation in things to see...

And if there's procedural vegetation too?

ATMO Landings are easy. If all you want is a landing with an atmosphere - POOF - there you have it. In fact, how do you know you haven't actually been landing on planets with an atmosphere? Maybe, the data is just wrong - or just needs to be replaced.

Its not really only an atmosphere that you want now, is it?

No no no no no and no again. No more new functionality of any sort until we get hula-girl bobbleheads

The kickstarter made absolutely no mention of them, and DBOBE has not spoken of them once, nor has any of the rest of the team. No other space game has them, and I don't have one in real life.

So I DEMAND we get them now, I know I speak for the whole community, even those that no longer play, and especially those who have yet to buy - WE WANT THE HULA-GRIL NOW!

In other news, I have MASTERED the use of the SHIFT key, WHILST typing. I feel clever.

Can't see the point of Atmo planets until the gameplay mechanics are in place to make it worth while. Thats not be being negative but I've seen people cry out for this a few times on the forum over the last year but havent really heard any compelling reasons why. A different coloured skybox, mist effects and physcadelic clouds would get samey real quick.

I suspect this is whats holding back its introduction by FD.

Greetings,

Landing upon atmospheric planets discussed in several live stream question/replies isn't on the to do list at the moment. Yes, it would be easy to implement with another optional internal module to take care of the heat buildup entering an atmosphere at hyper speeds until we are safe to land. The problem is what do we do after landing? Will there be cities to explore? Can we walk around? Can we hail a cab and go to a local bar? Will we have conversations with other players and NPCs in the bar for unique missions? Will we have to defend a city against live players in the BGS?

It is not about landing. That is pretty easy. It is what we will do there after we land. Frontier has a long way to go before figuring this out. That is why they don't have a date for implementing it. When they do I'm going to Sol and expecting all the major cities on Earth and Mars to have a totally new immersion in the game. I can wait for them getting it right.

Regards

Same response to the same comment?:-

ps: I'm hoping Q4's payable DLC is atmospheric landings!
