Corvettes and Cutters are now Super easy to get.

Still need a billion credits to buy and A rate it :D

Just a minor detail! lol [haha]

Seriously though... I don't understand all the salt over the dumbing down of the ranking timeline. None of us who were forced to endure even one of those original grinds enjoyed the process and would want to do it again, right? Be honest!

I know I sure the hell didn't find it the slightest bit compelling gameplay, even though personally, I had already ranked past the Corvette requirement when that ship was added to the game, and my PowerPlay activities throughout Imperial space would have taken me through the Cutter unlock process whether there had been a ship waiting on the other side or not.

People forget that the maintenance costs on the Cutter are outrageous, and anyone who obtains that ship before they are a Billionaire is going to eventually go broke keeping its integrity in check. Not to mention the ReBuy costs for either the Cutter or the Corvette.

So basically, anyone who gets into these ships too early is going to get hit with a reality check pretty soon after they make the purchase. :)

To be fair Shinrarta is not going to be represntative of the whole game as the players you see there are going to either be early backers who could by now have a lot of hours or those who have made it to Elite.
I'd be more 'worried' if this was in a starter system.

The problem is the game isn't new so all these thing will stop being rare at some point, it's not even a question creds being to easy to acquire.

It's really not a big deal.

If you can buy it ... you earned it. It´s not just worthless naval ranks ... don´t forget the money you need.
Oh you did the exploits do earn the money? Who cares, you don´t harm anyone by buying the things you want except maybe your own motivation.

The station there also stocks every ship and module with a 10% discount if I'm not mistaken.

Hello dear Forumplayers.

So yesterday morning i was up early (7am) and logged into the Game. Sitting in Shinrarta, i saw 7 Corvettes, 1 Cutter and one Chieftain in the List of Commanders.... wait.. 7 Corvettes? Wasnt that a special and Rare ship once?
I went investigating why everyone has a Corvette now... found a Youtubevideo that showed how to get ranks fast with the latest Beyond Update..... well holy Sh*t.
I farmed weeks or more like months to get my Cutter back in the Day, and now i was able to reach Rear Admiral within one single Morning by just picking the reputation reward on every data delivery mission.

Now im a not so proud Corvette owner... it doesnt feel like i earned it properly, remembering how much work went into the Cutter.

I think F-dev fails to find a middle ground. First it was to much grinding or to much work, now it is way to fast. What do you Guys think?

Have a good Day.

One of OAnt's more recent videos suggested commanders unlock the two rank-locked ships before (an implied) nerf in 3.0.03.

Commanders may have mistakenly interpreted this as not only securing the rank, but securing the ships themselves :D There's power in Youtube.

So what, cutters and corvettes are hardly a "I win ship". Too many Cmdrs flying cobras and pythons, they are ugly ships and ruining my game experience...

This becomes scary indeed. Already mentioned that after release back in 2014 I needed 4 months to a stock ASP Explorer, 6 months to a stock Python and 1 year to a stock Anaconda. I did not keep old ships and switched as early as possible with two insurances only!

So you don't feel special anymore? Wow. And there have always been a lot of big ships at Jameson, need Elite to get there after all.

Having just done the Imperial rank grind from Squire to Duke (and 100% Duke so I overshot into Prince and possibly even King) in a little over 4 hours split between yesterday evening and this morning, I think it might be a bit too fast at the moment, but not overly so. It finally seems like one would be able to rank up naturally over the course of a normal span of hours playing as opposed to having to grind it out. The commanders like myself who have been quickly grinding out the ranks in the past few days are just making up for lost time. We didn't have the chance to rank up naturally like newer players hopefully will have (depending on the severity of the nerf). Some of us are even having FUN doing it! :D I've been engineering my Imperial Eagle into quite a racer, seeing how quickly and accurately I can get docking/undocking to be, and I've also been working on my FA-off docking technique. (Still needs a lot of work!)

I must say, though, even after reaching Duke, a few of the fellows over in Mainani still don't seem to be too impressed. Especially this guy:

"We're awarding titles of nobility to just anyone now are we?"

I tried doing the Imperial ranking "the right way" on my XBox account a year and a half ago or so, by just hanging out in Imperial space all the time and taking whatever jobs sounded interesting. I also spent a lot of time bounty hunting and in RES's because I really enjoyed the gameplay there and only later found out that it doesn't count for ranking up. After several months, having only reached Knight and knowing from past experience with MMO-like games that each successive rank would only take longer than the last, I realized it would likely take me another year to unlock the Cutter that way. So I opted for the grind, and two tedious weeks later, I had my Cutter. I didn't feel a sense pride and accomplishment -- I'd need loot boxes for that. No, I was simply exhausted and thankful to high heaven that it was done. I wouldn't wish that grind on anyone. If you had the patience to acquire the Cutter or Corvette "the right way" in the past, you have my utmost respect and admiration, but I don't believe it's reasonable to expect such devotion from every player.

Regardless, I'm done with ranking. I doubt I'll pick up a Cutter anytime soon, and I don't have the credits at the moment anyways, but it's good to know I can do so whenever I want now.

Looking forward to the reduction in posts whining about grind then :D

.. suppose I though get on with unlocking the 'vette at some point, but can't get past the waaaay OP DBX right now ;)

I was the first to start trying to bring this crap to FDev attention almost as soon as the 3.0 release happened. it was a dumb thing to do either way. the reward system should ONLY offer MONEY and MATS

FDev might as well make it F2P now and just let these new $ buy whatever they want with their real cash. just turn it into another Star Citizen

Old school

1. Become allied with the factions that you want to rank up with.
2. Do missions to rank up.
3. Make 10 million credits while ranking up to the next level.
4. Have to be allied with the faction that provides the ascension mission.

New school

1. Become allied with the factions that you want to rank up with.
2. Do missions to rank up.
3. Make relatively nothing while ranking up to the next level.
4. Have to be allied with the faction that provides the ascension mission.

Going for rep only it still takes about 80 missions to get to the next level. A little faster perhaps than old school if the player knows what they are doing. When I first ranked up I had to figure it out which took time. Now that I know how to do it of course it seems easier. Remember the time it took to get proficient with a fixed rail gun? Now it's pretty easy to hit the target 5000 clicks away with an engineered long range version.

It is not so much that ranking up is a little easier. It is more about you are better at doing it.

So your issue, if I'm correct, is that because you struggled to get one, everyone else must as well? I'd think the trend should be to lessen the burden to access over time, not increase it or maintain the status quo.
