Just tried my first 3.03 skimmer mission

For 4.8 million (iirc) credits.

Skimmers didnt show till i went in with an srv (despite practically landing my ship in the middle of the compound) then i was surrounded by them. Took out 2, got stuck in a piece of scenery and picked to death by the remaining skimmers.

So congrats FD, you have managed to make the ever shrinking list of fun things to do in elite dangerous one item shorter.

No more store dollars for you :)

Sounds like a fun challenge! I'll give them a go, thanks for the tip
Gonna have to agree with this. Sounds like they actually made it fun and challenging. It always felt silly that "SRV combat missions" were best completed by lobbing dumbfires from your ship. It felt even sillier that a base would deploy its tiny little anti-SRV defenses when threatened by a ship. One does not typically deploy a bunch of mall cops when a tank rolls up.

Well that seemed like a sensible plan where nothing would go wrong at all.

Oh sorry i guess that wasnt clear. I practically landed my ship in the middle of the compound, none appeared, so then i landed my ship outside the trespass perimeter and went in with an srv, thats when i got stuck, in the srv. The srv was destroyed.
My FDL has almost 2k mj shields, it didnt get a scratch, despite the best efforts of a couple of federal navy ships and a few defense turrets.
Cant wait to see what the nerf hammer hits next. Right now im feeling like if i keep playing ED i will eventually end up doing data delivery missions in a shopping cart.

No, no, no. I'm never going to play again. My only joy in the game was the fizz of the dumbfire, that glorious pop of the skimmer and the chink of cash rolling into my bank account. There's nowhere else you could get such satisfaction from the game. There was plenty of challenge in those missions in trying to find the right place and expertise in the way you logged to get the right missions to spawn.

Can we have SRVs that launch dumfires, so that I can carry on playing?

you miss the point... this isnt the first time they do this kind of thing... and how does it make no sense to destroy them this way? why do you think real life drones exist? Hell what got Trump elected was him saying he will simply bomb the terrorist instead of sending ground troops...

Managed to take 3 down before just about getting away by the skin of me teeth...quick repair, back in they all on top of me what the sweet mother???

Ye that puckers up the but cheeks alright...jury is out need to rethink this a bit...especially considering I got two to get through haha...sorta...mummy?

I used to run skimmer missions how they were meant. Today I tried a run on a Med security base. First there is a patrolling ship that can target my SRV, that wouldn't be bad but the base has a 2 km perimeter and I am getting picked off before I can even get to the base proper (and possible cover). Add to that, on the one run where I managed to escape death from the ship the skimmer parked directly above my SRV (turret blind spot). So, once again rather than a simple measured response to an exploit FD goes to the opposite extreme and delivers yet another giant ' you' to players trying to play the game legitimately. Seriously, FD needs to hire someone who actually plays the game beyond around bases making inane, idiotic comments while doing their periodic livestreams.

Try landing your ship close enough to catch the patrol's attention then dismiss it. If you do it right, they'll chase your ship all the way to Raxxla, and won't bother you any more.

I don't understand the OP's point.

I've made a good bit of coin and have received a great deal of satisfaction from skimmer missions over the past year, and have never killed them in a ship. I've only ever used the SRV, and always by landing away from the compound and dismissing my ship before driving in (I always assumed that it would be tresspassing either way).

The worst that would happen is that security defense would show up, and despite running for nearlt an hour a few times, one can't escape them in the SRV. A couple of times I was able to land my ship, dock, and get away or take them out, but I usually just had to self destruct.

Though exciting and challenging at times, (especially high security bases), they were always doable.

It sounds like the complaint is that the experience is no different than what I've always known it to be, and this is ruining things.

I guess if one only knew skimmer missions as "massacre them with missiles from the FDL" then yeah, I guess one would actually have to play the game as intended now.

The challenge sounds interesting, glad to hear it.

I wonder if the skimmers around random POI are also more challenging?

It used to be that attacking the base was not the only option. You could find skimmers of the correct faction in nearby POIs. I have not had time yet to see if this still works, but I bet it does.

Yup that was the only way to do the bases that spawned three patrol ships, or if you didn't want a bounty.

SRV combat... well, we have no SRV outfitting, no different SRV-s, we have only one weapon and stock loadout. And they are hellbent on making players do this missions their way by a set of arbitrary restrictions and mechanics that make no sense, instead of making them actually fun to do this way. Nothing really new here...

Of course at the moment there's a bug and skimmers don't SHOW their faction or wanted status. So..that makes things difficult.
