Responce to Yamiks Shield Video.

Give the NPCs the same shields.
Fair is fair right?

We've been talking about this since engineers exisited. FDev as per usual ignored those saying "hey guys, things are getting borderline insane" and then they made them stronger.

Hull tanking outside of a few ships is very difficult with how hard some weapons hit and penetrate.

The analogy of FDev painted into a corner is fitting.

We've been using OC lasers with phasing. Only real counter to the MJ stacks and even then.. It's not all that easy.

Frag cannons are popular now? Never thought I'd see that day. It was all about multicannons and PAs.

I want lasers to do more vs shields. Lasers should be best vs shields, worst vs hull, with kinetic the opposite. I don't know where explosives would fit but I do know with engineering lasers aren't worth choosing for anti-shields duty.

Someone wants to mess with mega-shields again?

Let me remind you that we, mega-shield owners and admirers, brought down in flames both FD's attempts to nerf our shields. First was in 2.2.03, second was in 2.3. We are always on watch for the third.

Hands. Off. Our. Shields!

What an enormously unattractive attitude. Selfish thinking like this does no favors for the game, and its long term health.

It is an honest response. And any solution needs to satisfy this kind of player to be acceptable. IMO removing massive shields is off the table, any solution acceptable to all needs to be based around a downside to having a massive shield.

Heat limited is a good one, power limited would be better, both would be ideal.

FDev really doesn't need to please everyone, nor should they try. They should instead focus on trying to make the best game they can. If some people get sore about their favorite broken mechanics getting taken away then... Oh well. Even if they leave the game, then.. OH WELL. Elite is not a subscription game. A few people storming off because the game was made better is not that big a deal. FDev needs to quit cowering in fear and handcuffing themselves, and start making the changes that NEED to happen to improve the game. You'll get more happy paying customers if you improve the game than you'll lose to a few people storming off because you removed their training wheels.

Rather than give you a devils advocate analogy I'm just going to leave that one hanging ;)

In regards to tbe frag cannons. They don't work on smart pilots. They maintain a 1.5KM range and you might aswell be throwing marshmallows.

Pretty sure Yamik's video used a cutter as the ultimate shield tank example. It's a fast ship, but can it be caught by a well engineered clipper? Probably. I am aware that frags aren't the pvp meta, I was trying to point out that there are high dps counters to thick shields. I didn't even mention reverb cascade torps and mines.

One man's bread is the other man's poison. I, for one, have neither the time, nor the talent, nor the reflexes, and certainly not the inclination to go up against PVPers.

Also, when you say the game would be better, I respond that it would be better for you and other hard-core pilots--not necessarily for casual pilots such as myself. How many are as good as you guys? 1%? ;)

That said, I do not use prismatic shields, so they are not nearly as high as the numbers flung around. My corvette has 3,100MJ (bi-weave), my FDL ~1,300 (ditto), Python far less than that, Chieftain 667 (I was aiming for 666, but, oh, well... :D ).

Can't rep you more, Truesilver :(

Now with shields and engineers and most importnalty NPCS not having access to engineered modules....

IMO, shields are fine. But I would be 100% in favor of NPCs having access to random engineered modules. Plus NPCs spawned randomly, not based on your Combat Rank.

What I do agree with is there need to be some more balance on module use. Power or heat restrictions.

Casual pilots where doing CZ and RES with unengineered pythons and vulture before 2.1. We were 100% fine. Sometime we had to bail and recharge the shields,
or use tactics. Yeah, I know it's incredible.

NPC's are the same, we are 10x stronger, and you complain because we would only be like 5x stronger ? What kind of nonsense is this ?

Familiarity. Players have become used to having stuff. Buffs are easy, nerfs are never popular even though it may be the right thing to do.

For example this problem would be entirely solved by removing Engineers, SCBs, Shield Boosters & reinforcement modules from the game. I would very much favour this, but the complaints would be enormous.

So find another way IMO.

Removing direct PvP would be another way of solving this in one fell swoop - it would only annoy a minority of the player base after all, and no longer would Frontier have to try to keep balancing to PvP's squeaky wheel.

;)

:p

I wish people would stop using the Skimmers missions as evidence of FDev totally removing something instead of just making it make sense. They are back. They weren't gone that long. There are better examples.

Eh, let them keep their shields... FDev just needs to introduce the Remote Release Flechette Launcher munitions to multi-cannons and missile launchers, just imagine Pack-Hound Missile Racks with Flechette munition:D.

:p

How about swapping the rules? NPCs have access to engineered shields, SBs and SCBs, players don’t.

That would make PvP combat far less dangerous than PvE combat.
No one would complain about gankers ever. :D

Shields are 100% fine.

Between Thermal Weapons, Feedback Cascade Rails, and Reverberating Cascade Torpedoes, FDev have given CMDRs more than enough tools to absolutely REK shield tanks.

The problem is the majority of CMDRs are extremely lazy self entitled PVErs that can spend hours running Imp Slaves in a T9 from point A to point B, but can’t be *^%#$! to spend one or two hours to engineer the FDev provided solution/counter to meta shields.

Believe me, they are EASILY countered if one really wants to know how and takes the time.

I have an upcoming video that will show me repeatedly torping and killing Condas and Vettes with Meta Prismatic shields, in seconds, from a Stealth FGS, often by myself.

Why was this so easy? Because no one uses them (Reverb torps) and thus no one expects them.

I see almost no one using ECM.

If enough people used the counters meant to deal with these meta shields, it would force other CMDRs to make sacrifices/choices in utility slots and GIT GUD.

:p

Why don't we just take it to the next level and completely remove open and private from the game? the last three were solo only so why not this one? [yesnod]

/sarcasm

As an ex solo player:

Leave shields alone
Leave open alone
Leave the game alone, and

stop fracking whinging. Good grief people, its a game, enjoy it, test it, use it but don't live it eh?

:p

Except that wouldn't even fix the glaring issue of shields + engineering completely trivializing almost all PvE content in the game.
