Hightech system with 15% LYR discount and somewhat "in the middle" so nearly everything is more or less nearby
The newest addition is a material trader (data) and traders for raw and manufactured materials are just in the neighbourhood one jump away.

Van Den Bergh Hub in Domoth - a nice Empire system with good RES hunting, proximity to my favourite LYR outfitting station and relatively central location.
However, they changed voice controllers when 2.4 dropped and replaced the nice lady with a very droll-sounding male controller instead, and I haven't really been back since (been out in the black since October).
When I come back I'll be looking for all the above factors (Empire, central, RES sites, etc.) except somewhere with a better traffic controller voice. Perhaps Dublin Citadel or Leinster Ring, as they're named after the city and province (respectively) that I live in.

Jameson Memorial as home-home, but operate out of a temp home when I decide to cluster missions in a specific area. Currently am at Agricola's Ascent doing Pleiades missions.
Shen Terminal in Guuguyni. Decent outfitting...better at TZ Areites nearby. Plenty of RES sites, decent missions, pristine metallic in Zeta Octantis about 20Ly away. Nice system in general. All 20 of my ships are here for the most part and I tend to do Imperial ranking from here. 20 ships parked here currently.

I have two home systems:
Toluku, home of the 'Explorer on Tour' minor faction. Thats where I usually start/end my exploration trips
Shinrarta Dezhra where most of my ships are stored and I get anything in the outfitting for 10% discount

I just landed there once when I was new, liked the name and made it home.
For me, my home system has to be low security so that I have ready access to Interstellar Factors to cash in bounties and pay any fines I might incur. I also like the fact that there is a Haz Rez right outside the station.
When it's in Lockdown though, I operate out of either Abraham Lincoln in Sol, Munderers Hope in Tillian, or when I want to work with the Empire.. Kazantsev Dock in Ra.

I keep ships under construction at Jameson Memorial and a couple of passenger ships at Allen Hub, but the bulk of my fleet is homeported at Daedalus in Sol.
My reasoning is that Sol, in the centre of the bubble, is on average closer than anywhere else to other systems in the bubble.
I look at it this way. If your base is on the edge of the bubble then the average distance to anywhere else in the bubble is half the diameter of the bubble. But if you're in the centre, the average distance to anywhere else in the bubble is half the radius of the bubble - that is, half the distance.
On the other hand I haven't done any serious maths in over forty years, so I could be completely wrong.

Zander Dock in Tepertsi is my primary base of operations since it's my trade hub (even if Imperial Slaves have gone missing of late from this particular station). Somerset Station in I Caranae is my bounty hunting haven, I forget where I go mining since I only do that occasionally. It's not that far to Jameson, nor pretty much anywhere, and since the advent of my super jump ships and ship transfer, it really matters little how far I am from anything.
It's not my first base (try third) but I've been here since mid 2015, so methinks barring a major relocation due to the Thargoids, I'm probably here to stay.

Aisling Duval Controlled system right next door to Cubeo. Easy access to my PowerPlay HQ and nearly a dozen very nearby systems that all share common factions and offer a great variety of quality missions.
I wouldn't say my character has much of a home, but there are a few places she frequents more often than others:

I'd work against them, but I'm out of game for another fortnight.
Colonia Dream, Ratraii. 8.8ly from Colonia. A good base for passenger missions. Been here a while but now back in the bubble for the shopping. Returning soon.
Walker city... it’s like kremain near the starting systems but closer to sol and with has res. If your a bounty hunter like me it’s a perfect place to hang your hat...
I currently call Mars High home, although as soon as I gain my first Elite, I'm off to Jameson...

I swore when I returned to the bubble it was just for a couple of weeks.... been a few months now although I really do intend to return at some point... probably when my ship is fully engineered.
