Accidental Friendly Fire is the worst...

I just have to say it. Before 3.0, accidental friendly fire was a pain.
NPC stays into you fire (sometimes unavoidable) and you had to high tail it out of the instance, go to another system, come back into system, and pay fine, then go back to instance. All in all, 5-10 minutes wasted time.

I thought 3.0 was going to fix this? But no. It made it worse. It made it much worse.
Now? Now you can't even pay your fine in system, to the offended faction. You have to find some Interstellar Factor.
Oh? You are in a big ship? HAH! Good luck finding an interstellar factor on a station with large pads, probably have to haul your 9LY ship 100LY away to find one.

I was so excited to finally have my Corvette after 2 years of play, first Res site had a clean NPC in a hauler fly past me and get hit with a pulse laser, didn't even phase his shields, but I get wanted and have no recourse except to fly to another system, switch to another ship. Go to an interstellar factor, and pay my 300cr fine with accompanying death warrent. End result? It's been two weeks since I've opened the game, and I've zero interest in doing so right now. I'll open the game when the next patch comes out that fixes this garbage. (Or more likely, in July after I get an oculus rift, and then go exploring while they fix C&P again).

Possibly, I just shut the game down out of disgust, so honestly haven't even tried it yet. I dread flying my (shiny new) corvette 100 LY. Probably just pay the 200k to have it transferred. If I can transfer a ship with a 300CR bounty on it. So. g. Stupid.

They were supposed to be increasing the threshold for friendly fire and making it so that you only received a fine not a bounty. Not quite sure what happened to that.

Well, if you were using pulse lasers (which fire photons moving at the speed of light) when you hit that Hauler, then it didn’t just fly into the laser pulse; you shot it. If you were using frag cannons I could understand, but pulse lasers?

C’mon, it’s not that hard to develop trigger discipline.

I just don't get these threads. As long as I've been playing (Nov 2016) I've never gotten a bounty from someone drifting in front of my ship while I'm firing at a wanted target. I've had plenty of cops get in front of me and they would just send comms telling me to check my fire. The only time I've ever gotten a bounty for hitting a friendly is if I specifically targeted the friendly and then shot at it.

Might be because you don't use fixed weapons. If using fixed then it doesn't matter whether the target is selected or not, if they get hit, then you get a bounty.

I had a multi cannon build I really enjoyed on the corvette.
Pre-3.0 I only ever accidentally hit a ship twice.

3.0 came out and in the same night that happened to me 3 times. Each time, when the target flew below my nose. I have no idea what happened, I can't see through my ship.

But what I have noticed is that if you watch the npc's fighting among themselves. They do not fly through each others weapons. A player gets involved and then they start flying very differently. chasing, and weaving. I don't mean the pirate. I mean the npc police/bounty hunters.

"Friendly Fire Isn't."

Tell that to your npc crew member when they fire at a non-wanted ship that strays into their path of fire. :D

Gets you a bounty. And if someone else then kills the ship - you will get a murder bounty.

Just waiting for @-hole commanders to start doing this to Anacondas and Corvettes on purpose - or flying 2% hull shieldless sidewinders into peoples' line of fire for laughs.

Watch your fire, folks.

Was in a high res at the CG this weekend. Six Commanders and a slew of cops, bad guys, and whatever else. We had everything from Cobras and Vipers to FDLs and Cutters.

Not a single friendly fire incident for the hour or so I was there. Believe me, I was checking people! It is possible to avoid other ships.

When I get done with re-building my beloved FdL, going to a RES at a CG with a KWS in tow in order to legally harvest player receipts is my on my "must do" list.

It's also been a good 8 months since I've done any combat at all. Been focused on trading and some exploration.
And went from a FAS to a Corvette. Just saying, I'm rusty and in a ship with new hardpoints.
That said, I get it's my fault I hit the other ship, what I don't get is this is a minor offence. No damage, etc. And an annoying gameplay mechanic suddenly becomes "Goodbye two hours of your life". Which for me accounts for my total weekly gametime.
If they ship was say, destroyed, I could understand this. But it wasn't. Why do I need an intersteller factor to pay off a minor offence? I'm still allowed to dock at the local station, but all services are unavailable. Just let me pay my darn fine and go on my merry way.

It's exceedingly rare I even graze another human ship, save for Wing Mates who insist on getting in the way because ramming things to death IS amusing.

NPC's on the other hand... I have a thing for Plasma Accelerators. NPC's have a thing for coming to an absolute, 100% fractional second, dead halt before continuing on at whatever speed they were traveling. I'd love to know how to do this and live. But it does give them a peculiar advantage when it comes to dodging a plasma ball, and when they have good range... sooner or later someone off in the distance ends up eating one - or three.

Depending what ship these are coming from, I have done considerable damage to small ships at long range and previously had to stand the corner (9 minute time-out in another system) or (beta) pay an unholy fine. It doesn't happen frequently. It doesn't even happen infrequently, but it happens.

No "Smart Rounds" for Plasma - once they're loose, they're loose. Have done the exact same thing with Packhounds - a few in a swarm take out a ship, the rest smack some schmuck in the distance, and I'm bribing someone to keep from getting shot.
