Sea Of Thieves

The other big annoyance is there's no persistence of your ship loadout. So if you stick up on ammo, crates etc, they disappear when you log out.

Looks gorgeous, but seems like there's not a lot to do to be honest, and being mostly reliant on multi-player means that I'm out I'm afraid.

LOL, he called it No Man's Sea.

Are all MMO's doomed to fail? I don't like MMO's. I didn't buy Elite until 2016 because I heard it was an MMO.

It seems that all MMO's face these problems:

1. PvP balance problems
2. Netcode and instancing problems
3. Economy balance problems
4. Progression grind
5. Repetitive activities

There's one thing that kills my interest in this title:

Microsoft Studios

They've pushed games out before and then left them to languish and die without proper support.

I give this 12 months maximum before the servers are taken down.

I don't trust M$ at all........

There have been some recent rumours that MS might buy out EA.

Can you imagine the anti consumer, shareholder focused monster that would create.

My bones feel cold.

Most of the game's problems are caused by the ridiculous hardships of XBox Live and MS services in general.
Lack of content doesn't concern me. I can make my own, Elite has taught me well. But this game really stands on playing with friends, and that is currently not possible. To gather four people together is a hard at least half an hour work before every session.

I'm taking a pause for a month or so. To see what they're going to do about it.

SoT is awesome. Been playing the hell out of it, mostly just solo slooping and having a good time, other times I just link up with other sloop captains and crew for them.

It's awesome how much it changes the game - when you solo sloop you are constantly on the move, looking over your shoulder, loading up your deck and mad-hauling it for port. When in a two-man crew though, it's a bit more relaxed. I can imagine even more so in a 4 man galleon.

Last night before bed, I decided to play troll. Instead of going on voyages I went around to inactive skull forts and loaded up on gunpowder barrels. Stacked about 15 of them on my deck. Then I found another sloop to chase me and I led him around the map for a while, finally to sharp-turn so they could get a ram in and steal my "treasure".

I intended to pop the powder kegs myself, had my pistol cocked and ready to go, but just before impact one of the guys got a cannon shot on my deck and my ship went up like the hindenburg. Not sure if either of them died, or if their sloop took any hits, but I respawned on a quiet sunset beach, knowing that if they did survive, there was ultimately nothing for them to pluck out of the water.

I got drunk, played a tune on my hurdy gurdy, and logged off with a smile on my face.

Thus preventing and punishing combat logging... because you know people would.

Nope, every time you start the game, you start fresh, just like everyone else.

lol - exactly.

Just finished this evening's solo sloop run. Here's how it went...

-Stocked up on supplies
-found a shipwreck with a skull and spices, turned them in
-Went to island #1, killed skeles, hid the villainous skull in some underbrush
-Went to isalnd #2, killed skeles, grabbed three skulls, some tea and a message in a bottle. Went and turned it all in
-On the way back to island #1, saw a sloop loitering. Killed it and took 2 seafarer's chests off of it
-Saw another sloop and shot and chased it, we got intercepted by a galleon who turned on me
-Sailed my rudder off and lost the galleon to the wind and a real tight turn.
-Found another shipwreck, got silks and another skull, went back to island #1, got my skull, went and turned it all in.
-Went to my bottle island, got my chest and a couple powder
-Saw the same galleon to the south, turned north and saw a shipwreck
-Got another villainous skull, sailed straight through a storm to the outpost in the north, turned everything in.

Man, so much fun. As a solo sloop you really have to keep your eye out, plan ahead, and keep it moving.

Stop to mess around and you'll more than likely end up like the sloop I mentioned above.

Windows 10 being a hard requirement is a no sale for me. If not I would have definitely bought it. Seeing the reviews on it post release.... I am very glad I didn't waste my money. Windows 7 saves the day again!.

Blake Wake is awesome, check it out if you want a similar game.

I doubt anyone will ever really care about combat logging in this game (unless it changes fundamentally). There's no persistence, so you lose everything at the end of each session anyway, and little real benefit for winning combat.

I think it's niche will become a sort of casual "party game".

I'm still seeing more people on my friends list playing Elite than I do SoT.

I think this might be another Evolve.
