Assault ship, Dropship or Gunship

I have managed to get some hard earned cash (70 mill) and I am tempted to buy one of these.

Which one is the best :)

For combat pve

For PVE the Gunship is probably your best bet, its got a lot of hardpoints. The FAS is more maneuverable tho, so you gotta evaluate what you like the most in a ship.

The Chieftain. It doesn't look like a doorstop.

But if you're insisting on a Fed ship, Gunship is Funship, and the only one of those three that can fit a fighter bay.

For pure combat the FAS and FGS are probably superior in most cases, though the FGS is more expensive to outfit. Don’t discount the FDS though. It is more flexible for different roles. You can turn it into a really tough ship with some effort. I really love flying my FDS.

A gunship is a party in a can, you can even bring a friend. Between those three, it represents by far the best firepower and survivability, as well as supporting the most gameplay choices. It is BY FAR the best looking ship of the three and is quite rewarding to fly, not as bad as people say/think. I can clear a wing assassination in one that was engineered in 2.4. :)

70 Mil is just about enough to get a complete FAS out the door with a 3.5-ish Mil Re-Buy. The FGS cost over 35 Mil at it's most basic. You may need to step through the FAS, to get to the Gunship.

This is my basic PvE mission runner/combat FAS.

I'd go with the Chief too. I was a big FAS fan but in the last few years and major updates it lost a lot of its shine. Still it's obviously a very capable ship but IMO the Chief is better for a similar price.

And it doesn't look like a doorstop.

FAS is more fun to fly, FGS is more fun to point at something and shoot it with 7 multicannons (and a fighter) ^^

For 70 MCr.? Vulture.

You'll need at least 100 MCr. to equip either of these, and have a little bit left over for a couple of rebuys.

FAS of the three. Greater maneuvering.
Chieftain would be my first choice though. Can engineer it over the FAS abilities.

FAS all the way!
Once you get used to the hardpoint placings and work out where best to stick the Beams and MCs it's a HOOT!

Tough to say which is best, it depends on the type of combat.

FDS: Excellent all around ship capable of taking any combat situation in its stride whilst carrying out whatever task you throw at it.
It's as cheap as chips and tough as nails. A very underrated and often overlooked gem.

FAS: Top tier combat ship for both PVE and PVP. Fast and agile, in your face, killer. Probably the best choice for pure combat and bounty hunting.

FGS: " Federal Funship". Seven hard points, SLF, rock hard armor, ridiculously fast acceleration and deceleration all backed up with a size 7 PD. I think that sums up its combat ability. Awesome CZ sweeper and a real fun missile boat.

Might want to start with the FDS as you can outfit it well within that budget and work up from there as the modules are mostly the same.

Dont need rebuys, playing hardcore :)

Anyway, thanks CMDR's I Think I am going with the most expensive option

Yes, the Chieftain looks like a frog, the Fed ships look like boots for stepping on said frog and kicking everything else up the..... with the exception of the whales of course. Saud Kruger and Core Dynamics; "Beauty and the Beast" pretty much sums up most of my fleet really. :)

To answer, Gunship. It's not called the funship for no reason. 7 hard points my friend. 7. Not 6, not 5, but 7. So many activities. So much firepower. It's also one of the most bad sounding ships in the game. It can also house a fighter.
I skipped the dropship but thinking of picking one up just to see if I like it and can find a use for it in my fleet. FAS is a good ship, just prefer the FGS and Corvette in PvE and FDL/Vulture for PVP.

And since people want to suggest a chiefton when it wasn't even mentioned

FAS > Chie"oh there goes the canopy" ton.

I found that the Dropship was really good fun. It slides around quite a bit and you need to be prepared for flight assist off turning - but there was a nice little gunnery set-up for it. One large beam and 4 x med multi-cannons and it would fire all day long.

I may grab another just for fun.

Much prefer the quick and agile FAS over the slow lumbering FGS.

2 x PA's/Rails and 2 x MC on the FAS and you will be good to go:)
