Petrol Inbound! Bring out the Nerf-Bat!!! Tantrums all round! EXPLOIT WARNING - TRIGGER ALERT

Skimmer missions nerfed ...

Update on Atwood Base. It looks like the two systems providing skimmer missions mentioned in this YouTube video

have been Nerfed!

Re Volynov Colony in 31 Beta Leonis Minoris and skimmer missions to Atwood Base... I wasn't online for a few days and came back when 3.0.5 had gone live. I've checked this outpost for skimmer missions for the last few days and not a single skimmer mission!

Similar situation at Baker Orbital in 25 Arietis. No skimmer missions!

At first I wondered if skimmer missions had been removed completely again... But I have since found alternative systems that do offer skimmer missions, so they are definitely still in the game as of 3.0.5. I checked the patch notes for both 3.0.4 and 3.0.5... No mention of skimmer missions...

So, it may possibly just be down to system states but after a few days, it looks like these two systems have been specifically targeted by FDev and nerfed into oblivion to me.

THANKS FDEV! ANOTHER GREAT NERF from you guys! Your just totally Awesome aren't you.

Can we please have an explanation WHY just these two systems have been nerfed? Do you really feel that threatened by players making credits in this game!? Your response is pathetic.

I won't post the current locations being used because you will just remove those as well from the game.

I'm totally sick to the back teeth of you pulling this sort of stunt FDev! And the fact that you don't have the integrity to put these nerfed systems into the patch notes for people to see what you have done... Beneath contempt imo.

Over-reaction much [haha]

You are the player the Dev's moms warned them about.

Is this the Tantrum all round triggered?

No it not a tantrum. It's making people aware of what fdev are doing 'on the quiet', so that they don't have to answer for these actions. If I'm annoyed, again, it's because of the way fdev handle these things... With the boot!

The point of this thread was to expose how stupid the whole EXPLOIT crying is and how fdev seem determined to remove any means of making a reasonable amount of credits and materials. Fdev want you to grind and grind and grind. It's supposed to be a sandbox game. But before you can do whatever you want, and 'Blaze Your Own Trail', you have to grind for months!

Ok, I just thought the title finally made sense. Not a tantrum then.
Remember when you used to like the game. You must have enough credits already.

So trying to discredit and belittle me to shut me up is the best you can do?

However many credits I have is irrelevant (I've played for years so yes, I have more than I'll ever need in either ED account). It's the way FDEV are reacting that annoys me. Why people think credits are the problem in this game and need to be desperately throttled to a dripping tap is Beyond(tm) me!

...As if earning more than a million credits an hour is going to completely break the game. Sorry, but I just don't see the problem. I couldn't care less whether some newbie wants to fly a conda within a week. So what? They'll learn soon enough what is comfortable for them to fly. If they quit because they are not prepared to learn, well that's their problem. But Making it hard for everyone to earn credits isn't the answer.

Oh and there are elements of this game I still like. It's a great galaxy to play in. It's the stupid politics that really turn me off.

All this drama, and you really have no idea if these two systems were targetted by FD for a nerf, just pure guessing.. Where does the rage come from I wonder, why that much hate..

> creates video & thread with melodramatic OP that all but laughs in the face of Fdev attempts to balance their ingame economy, as well as at prior "hot exploits of the month"
> complains and cries foul when the hot spot dries up, whether from natural BGS changes or Fdev intervention

Dude...just stop.

News flash: CREDITS ARE NOT HARD TO GET WITHOUT EXPLOITS & GIMMICKS.

This.
I made 140 million in Wing missions with a friend today...seems like all is good to me...

Ok got I think,..

jump in an out of the game several times, amass missions, go to base and shoot things while flying in circles. Result, big payout to add to the 3.5 billion credits already have and nothing to spend it on. Fair summary? Yeah, way fun.. not.

Honestly, I don't care how others play the game. If you want to go kill more fake stuff to make more fake money more quickly, knock yourself out. Personally. I rather watch paint dry or wash the dog. If that was really all ED had to offer I would have lost interest long ago. I will however complain about sitting through two crappy videos with someone prattling on about skimmer missions which can be summed up in a sentence and is common knowledge anyway. Enough already.

Ohhh... We do like to be CONTENTIOUS!

I'm not trying to sound like a {piece of hygienic equipment} or detract yourself, your point or anything of that nature, but I am genuinely curious to something;

Is the video output due to rendering, or is that your in-game view?

Is there any reason you have the contrast/brightness/gamma so out of whack? Like personal viewing (glasses or whatnot), filter over screen etc?

EDIT: Can't use the word for an orifice cleaner apparently... so changed.

Still no skimmer missions. Just random that these two systems that were mentioned on YouTube should suddenly be shut down?

it doesn't matter if they did or didn't.

It was something that needed to be taken out. And I say that as someone who is currently grinding for money so I can get a Conda. Making that much money that quickly is not what they intended and as the Devs they are perfectly entitled to fix or change anything that undermines the game or its intended means of progression.

And this isn't just Frontier. plenty of other studios fix exploits and bugs that have the same effect. Its not new and its not going anywhere.

I used an exploit. I used the slider in the OP video to see the end which was a lot like the beginning. I cannot watch someone board flip for 10 minutes in a video.

Some people need to learn to use editing tools.

The problem with that line of reasoning is that they are the ones who set this all up in the first place. People spend countless hours looking for that golden goose and when they find it, someone comes along and says "no you should spend more time looking for the copper chicken" and they kill it.

This is why, if you find something like that, you'd be best to stack your account with Cr before sharing it. You can say FD knows about it already, but if they do they don't want everyone else to know. So maybe the issue isn't the lopsided reward payout in some systems, but the fact that the community is informed of it which allows them to instantly bypass the grind.

If the BGS worked, the missions would go away on their own just through supply vs demand.

You just slicked back my hair with saliva from all your screaming in my face, and you burned holes in my eyeballs with all that red text. Why? It's just a game!

No, that's not some unusual screen setup, it's how YouTube renders my video after upload. I record from my 4k monitor
https://www.scan.co.uk/products/32-...NiBM26K6vpC-r29_bV5MSYiHtyrbxAhUaAm-QEALw_wcB
using Nvidea's Shadowplay software (that shipped with my GTX 980Ti graphics card). This saves in mp4 format but I don't know what the codec is that shadowplay records in. This should be OK for YouTube but YouTube converts this to H.264 I believe. YouTube does seem to use fairly severe compression for streaming (and storage) purposes. This processing step may be messing up the gamma etc to give this end result. I'm fairly sure that the screen is ok. I use a high quality screen for photo editing that is calibrated using a ColorMunki.

Recommended upload encoded settings : https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/1722171?hl=en

Colormunki Photo: https://www.xrite.com/categories/calibration-profiling/colormunki-photo

Recording in 4k obviously causes issues with YouTube: https://forums.geforce.com/default/...-for-4k-screen-recording-and-youtube-uploads/

Post #9 is probably the most helpful...

From this I'm unclear how to proceed...

So in short, I don't know what is messing with the image quality of the video format, nor how to fix it unless it is
a) the shadowplay record settings not being optimal...
b) Rendering the video before the Colormunki calibration profile is applied to the video feed?
c) recoding issues of the uploaded video at YouTube's end because they don't handle the video format I'm uploading...

I've just purchased Premiere Pro but it will take a while getting up to speed with that. That won't fix YouTube's compression issues either.

I've got a 1080Ti arriving on Thursday. That might be better but I doubt it as the 980Ti card can handle a 4k monitor. Any advice on recording video from a 4k monitor for YouTube would be welcome.

Some people need to learn to use editing tools.

It was done that way so that you could see the whole process - how long it took to gather and how much each mission was worth... Only the flight out and back was edited out as that added nothing to the video but 15min in Supercruise. You are of course not bound to watch all of it. Watch as much or as little as you are bothered with. I wouldn't call that an exploit.

Why?

Why did these two specific locations need to be taken out?

What harm does it do to you or anyone else for that matter. You are welcome to earn your two bits an hour of grinding. I want to be free of having to grind, to be able to do whatever I want without caring about credits. It's a game, not a grind. It's a sandbox not a gaolbox.

Why does having to take months to earn sufficient credits to obtain a conda make that approach to the game so much better than doing it sooner. Is that what your sense of achievement is based upon? That you ground out a hundred million two bit playing sessions? Well bully for you! I'm in awe of your patience and endurance for monotony! I've done that, twice, and the second time was no more satisfying than the first.

I think the guys out exploring, doing Buckyball Racing, Canon Racing, and doing stuff in their SRV (geyser jumping, base jumping etc) have the right approach to the game. Enjoy a sandbox for what it is. You are bound to say that these things do not require credits and to a large extent you would be right, but I'll immediately say that the best exploration ship is the conda... If I want to fly a Python through the rings of a gas giant (thread the needle style), I need to do all that two bit grinding that you seem to insist that I do because it's the only right way to do it.

So returning to my initial point... Why did it need to be taken out?

This is a SANDBOX game. I'm supposed to be able to do what I like, but that really translates to I can play by doing things that FDev prescribe are within the rules that they set for their game. You will argue that they are entitled to define any rules they like because it's their game. I'll argue that I don't have to like it their way. If I prefer to shoot skimmers from my ship instead of my SRV, why make this an exploit. It's just a different way of playing this mechanic. The end result is the same.

So let's get to the rub shall we?

What you call an exploit, I call just another angle and means of playing a sandbox game mechanic. Killing the skimmers in this case. It's an arbitrary decision what is permissible and what isn't.

Yet you don't like it because it doesn't fit in with your two bit credits an hour motif. You think everyone should have to invest months into the game whether that fits in with their life commitments, playing style or life ethos. You may have the same two bit mindset as the devs, but to me that doesn't make you right, it just means your on that side of the argument. Your answer to this is; "that this isn't the game for you then".

I'm tired of hearing that argument too. It is my game just as much as it's yours. It's also FDev's game but I would argue that we as the community that play their game should have a say in how the game is molded. Why do you think people use every opportunity to make credits in ED? It's because they are sick to the back teeth of the two bit an hour mindset that throttles this game to a drip feed. Like me, they bought this game for the freedom it offers, not the two bit chains of bondage that they subsequently find it to be. So any means of escaping the credit prison is most welcome.

And that is why I posted this thread.
