Sandbox mode

It won't be in the game at the start.
Michael Brookes said that in the base game they made a choice to focus on a narrative. But he also said that they are aware of the massive popularity of sandbox and they will look into it, later.

Massive popularity? I wanted to buy the game because I wanted to run my own park. I wasn't even aware that I had to be concerned that it wasn't included.

Just to be clear when we say sandbox mode we don't mean a sort of cheat mode right?

We mean: A blank Island that you can run on your own, build your own stuff, still manage finances and try to make a 5 star park

I'm seriously worried and not sure If I still want the game.

Thought that they said something in the video (New Details On Jurassic World Evolution From Its Developers) from Game Informer but I just rewatched it and mis understand it I think (min5). I thought Michael said "we're looking at it".

Ah yes. The impression I got was that they didn't want to talk about anything other than the story mode for Las Cinco Muertes.

The interviewer jokingly said to them that they were 'hip' and that they knew that players wanted it. Bestinslot says his 95% certain that a sandbox mode will be Included at release. Apparently it was strongly hinted at at the LA event.

That's a really important point; could you please write that in the pinned thread asking for our Wishlist for the game made by a dev?

Be sure to distinguish between a unlimited sandbox mode and just a regular island build like you did in your comment. :)

That's what I mean. I believe that's what it is in Planet Coaster.

Wait, they've confirmed there's no sandbox?

That's a huge disappointed. Sure, I like the story missions. But I also like to choose a map, set an amount of cash and just focus on creating a park without someone telling me what to do.

Nothing has been confirmed about Sandbox mode.

I think the developers need to come out and confirm there's a sandbox mode.

If not that's an even more ridiculous decision than JPog only allowing you to unlock 3 dig sites.

I mean wow. It's obvious people would just want to select an island and build without worrying about missions and story.

If that's not included or, is going to be patched then... Wow, idiotic.

Like I already said, devs DID come out and said there is no sandbox mode, but they are not opposed to the idea of adding it later. Before that they just want to focus on the narrative.

I wouldn't call it idiotic, though. Firstly, because I want to remain on this forum and secondly because it's their choice to make a game THEY like and features they think they will work best for the game THEY want to make.

Could you please link the source that says they have confirmed NO sandbox.

And secondly, whilst I agree the devs have a right to make whatever artistic choices they want; the entire point of a game like this is to make your own JP. Denying a basic feature that literally everyone wants isn't very wise.

I'd like a source too. Whilst I've been critical of the game, I really can't see them leaving out a sandbox mode when it's clear that everybody would want one.

Agreed. I really want this game, but leaving these kind of stuff out is not er.. smart.

I'm on the phone and ready to fall asleep. If you search for the interview with Michael Brookes, you can hear him say it. If you will not find the vid, I'll post the link tomorrow.

Not necessarily. I want both. I want a sandbox mode as you described it, but I also want to be able to do whatever I want with all the money and everything unlocked.

I'd strongly like to see a Sandbox mode too. Cities Skylines, The Sims 4, Planet Coaster, and Zoo Tycoon have it. Some of these games are also kind of management games too. Having a Sandbox mode adds to the fun of the game as you can play it without the rigid structure and worry of running out of money and sticking to a budget.

The buildings look good enough to me. Hopefully we can place multiple Ranger Stations and ACU Unit Stations cause I'd like to create a more bigger dinosaur park (not too big). I think I'll give electric fences my first shot. I heard they're relatively cheap in game. I remember the 10,000 volts Danger from the first Jurassic Park movie, that's enough to kill a human, so it should be enough to stun or knock out a dinosaur.

Big YouTubers like playing Sandbox mode in Planet Coaster (also made by Frontier). Don't expect to be able to build your buildings piece by piece like Planet Coaster, but Planet Coaster has a lot of bloat at it which is why JWE runs a lot better and has good graphics. I saw a video of JWE and it looks and runs good on Xbox One. I have an Xbox One X console (more hardware powerful than the PS4 Pro), and a custom gaming desktop PC.

I think a very important question is one of mindset and purpose for this game. Is it a direct movie product tie in game, or is it a game that is set in the movie world?

I think if Universal is looking at this as a merchandising opportunity first and foremost, that many of us sim fans are going to be disappointed. I really don't think this is akin to say Planet Coaster and their IP agreement to use Back to the Future items in an otherwise unaffiliated game. I am concerned that this will not be the long awaited Planet Safari or Planet Coaster with Dinosaurs that many are thinking it will be. I hope I am wrong. I really do because I want that, but my gut feels as if this is going to be a pretty direct out of the box, feature complete, few minor patches then done kind of game, as many movie product tie in games are.

give us those juicy links!!

I'm just re-watching the game informer interview with Andrew Fletcher and Michael Brooks (New Details On Jurassic World Evolution From Its Developers is the title if anyone was interested but I think it was linked in the forum somewhere too) and at around 5:14 Micheal Brooks says about sandbox mode:

"So obviously that's something that's been popular on previous games, so it is something that we're looking into but we're just talking about the creative part of the game at the moment"

emphasis on the "just talking" part of that quote. They haven't talked about sandbox because they're talking about the story progression. That's not an outright denial of a sandbox presence, it's also not confirmation. What can be taken away from that though is that they're aware of sandbox popularity and they're looking into it

It's also been very strongly indicated by various people to various other people, particularly at the LA event that something sandbox esque will most likely feature in the game at some point.

If there was a hard quote from the devs that no sandbox will be in the game then that'd settle it. I fear however that would also cause most of us to descend on Cambridge with a burning passion to tell Frontier off for being naughty

I'll be pretty disappointed if there's no sandbox mode at all. From what we've seen in the demo the terraforming seems very limited. I want to be able to design and build my very own island from scratch, from the hight of the mountains to the rivers/lakes/waterfalls to the type of trees you have. Although having said that we don't know what happens on Nublar yet so maybe we get lucky and it's a sandbox island (unlikely). Designing every aspect of your own island to your own specs is an overwhelmingly more attractive proposition than building in a set space while completing contracts and following a narrative. That's what I loved about JPOG. Even though we were limited by various things such as build and dinosaur limits we actually had creative freedom, and you seldom come by that these days.

I guess I am just concerned that this will be more of a movie tie in game such as the Harry Potter movie tie ins, or things like Stat Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace video game. Games that are more linear, with more limited long term support, expansion, and replayabilty than we are used to with Elite Dangerous and Planet Coaster.

Even if I am wrong (which I hope I am not) about Nublar being the sandbox mode we can unlock after we five star that island/park I am sure some kid or basement dweller will blow through the game in the first few days of it's release and if they find out there is no sandbox mode I am sure you will see all kinds of hell raised about it. in Planet Coaster you don't have to unlock the sandbox mode, it's just there and you can play it any time. But Frontier has worked hard on a narrative for this game so Iam sure they want you to experience the narrative. It will basically be a story mode. JPOG just made you do a bunch of boring irritating missions to unlock Site B mode, of course I used cheats cause I could.
