General / Off-Topic Today, I have what I hope is a genuinely respectable question.

Why do so many guys hate on other guys for listening to female singers?

This has come to mind lately, as I have really gotten into symphonic/operatic/gothic metal, and these sub-genres are dominated by female vocalists.

Thing is I actually really like it. Some of the best tunes I've had the pleasure of listening to.

And not all female metal vocalists sing clean. You should hear the death growls of Alissa White Gluz of the band Arch Enemy.

Some of the highest quality death I've heard there.
Some people are just haters. Whatever you give them as an example, they will find something to hate about it. Some people, just have to criticise everything and everyone. Some people target their hate, to individuals and again; will find hate, in everything the individual, does, says or values themselves.

These people are a waste of time, thought and trouble. Move them out of your life ASAP.

I have much respect for female vocals... two of my fav bands of all time are Portishead and Sneaker pimps.

Female fronted symphonic metal is a genre I've enjoyed for quite some time.
Nightwish, Within Temptation, Delain, Lacuna Coil, Leave's Eyes, Sirenia... the list goes on.

Then when lead singers of 2 of those bands team up, it gets even better...

I don't know what exactly you mean. Never seen, that someone looks weird at me or say something when i'm listening to female vocal music :)
(Okay...except maybe the guys from south east europe....but you know....they're 'different'..)

If you like that kind of music, maybe you wanna try also Kobra and the Lotus? :p

I most certainly would never hang with these guys, that's for sure. But if I were caught out listening to Xandria whilst on the bus, I would never see the end of the abuse.

One word: chavs.

If it isn't rap then it's grounds to be abused.

Woah damn, i know such people also. There will be a time where you don't even notice them anymore. Just look at them withput any impression and continue listening to your music with a face full of awesomeness.
They stop talking very fast because they realise, you have more power than they :D

More from her in a similar style, along with Morgan James and Ariana Savalas:

Ariana Savalas, along with some serious tap-dancing from Sarah Reich.

As for the OP's question, I can only echo what others have said. Don't let other people tell you what you can or cannot like.

Mate I have been searching for that Sneaker Pimps tune since 1997. you post the bloody video and I don't even need to listen to it. I have BTW. It all came flooding back. Such a great 90's tune. Cheers.

Talking of 90's tunes. I dare anyone to mock the powerful Tori Amos. Ok so her plastic surgery is a fail. Her music is amazing.

Are these very young, immature guys then?
Or do they perhaps have a very limited education?

There is a lot of music that doesn't do it for me, or I might even think it is just awful music, some of it performed by men, some of it by women, but I simply accept that tastes differ for different people.
That simply is the nature of reality. It is so pointless to make a fuss about stuff like that.
It is much more interesting to try to understand what it is in certain music that speaks to people. One might even learn a thing or two.
But I suspect I might have walked this earth for many more years than these childish guys you talk about.
Perhaps they will become more mature when they get older.

I'm confused if he only goes out once a month how does he come across these people?

Every night I simply have to leave my window open to hear the angry rants of drunks and drug-users complaining about how that little brat could not possibly be his child.

Like I say. Very rough area, made worse by the fact a lot of these people attacked me on a daily basis in school whilst I was in those years.

Thankfully, it looks like I'm moving later this year. Same town, but far away enough that nobody will know me.

I look forward to it.

Yeah, we're all in our twenties. I'm not going to dispute that age is a factor here, as you're quite right.

Still, shame I can't really listen to anything I like outside the house, even on headphones.

(That said, I also can't listen on headphones while outside here anyway, lest I get mugged. And yes, I've been mugged on a couple of occasions)

My god, I can't even imagine living under such circumstances.
I hope you will be able to move and get away from all that.

Wow...thats even worse than where I live. If someone is having a party at 4 in the morning and the noise is getting outta hand, 3 guys wearing balaclavas and baseball bats soon puts an end to it...but you gotta put up with it?

Suddenly living here doesnt seem so bad after all if the rest of the planet has forgotten how to look after itself without calling the otherwise useless police.

Hope ye can find a way outta that hole ye live in...makes my estate sound like a leafy suburb tbh ^

Pretty sure where I live was officially declared one of the worst places to live in England at one point. Even if not at the top/bottom of the leader board, depending on how you see it, today it is still definitely not far from being the worst at best.

The masses here are... Well there not nice. Sorry, but about 15 years here has taught me to not trust anyone.

I read the OP and sat here thinking, who the hell is the OP hanging about with. If you were listeing to Celine Dion then yeah I might question your musical taste (Im not into your taste as is but its yours so enjoy it) but I wouldnt start saying just becuase you listen to a female singer or a band with a female lead that its wrong.

My god how much great music I would have missed if that was my mind set. Really people who think like that really are not worth knowing or at least not untill they grow up a bit.
