Community Event / Creation Elite Dangerous: Voice Attack commands, Alpha 4.3 (Cobra MkIII)

Hi There, The heat sink doesn't really work with me either and I haven't sussed it myself as to why,

Hehe, I have to laugh as I suppose I made a bit of a rod for my own back here by trying to demonstrate what was possible with VA as it blew me away. But truthfully I'm just another ED tester trying to find a way to play that suits me and wanted to share that with others who may find it helpful.

I'll have another look at my profile and see if I can work out the heatsink issue when I get a moment. :)

Happy Hunting Commander!

Hat tipped to you Spriggs you done a fab job certainly more that I think I ever will. I just mentioned it as, (as you say it is WIP) and therefore if it was more than myself mentioning it it was something for a later date. I was not standing by with whip in hand an making demands... It's a super tool which needs embracing not just by us but by the gaming industry to make the enjoyment factor for the able and disabled players to make life a bit more exciting, combine that with TrackIR and there's a winning combination is ever there was, so congrats on whats you have achieved your videos say it all as far as that goes. Many thanks :)

Hi
Great post and looks like a great product.
One question from me (apologies if this has been covered - I didn't spot it) ..... How does this work with comms like TeamSpeak/Mumble ? Can you get it to filter out your commands to ED from your general chatter with your mates ?
Cheers,
Ben

Hey Spriggs, thanks for sharing your profile.

I picked up VA when I started with the combat scenarios, and loved it.
Will be having a look at your profile to see how you did some of your commands and then modifying mine with what i learn.

Fly Safe!

Customizable Replies?

I watched a You Tube video that used Voice Attack with Elite Dangerous. In the video he would say a phrase like "computer" and there would be a reply "Yes commander" Since this phrase isn't in the game, how did he customize the voice replies? Is that even possible?

VoiceAttack provides two ways to get audible feedback: Via playing a .wav file or through Text to Speech.

If you want to spice up your gameplay or just have confirmation of a started or completed command, just click on the 'Other' button on the Add or Edit Command screen.
Choose either the, 'Play a sound file' option or the 'Say the following using Text to Speech' option.
Click the, 'OK' button and you now have audible feedback in your sequence :)

If you are having an issue when using someone elses profile I would suggest you try the following.

Open voice attack profile:

VOICE_key_guide.png

Then make sure the key is mapped in your Elite control options. In this case make sure that "N" is mapped to rotational correction.

INaeem, Thanks for the information. Sounds cool!
I am currently only using microsoft anna.

And I realize it works a lot better with microphone that has a mic-tip compared to those open-air ones if you get what I mean.

Hi,

I've tried to import the profiles in this thread to Voice Attack v1.5.5 and it reports:

Error loading profile data.
[There is an error in XML document(1, 17).]

for each of the profiles. Is this something that others have seen?

VA newbie here:

Um, okay I have set up VA and grabbed the Cobra III profile and the voice recog works great; however, the voice commands are not transferring to actual movement or any cockpit command and when I try to map to my Hotas Warthog there is no option for it.

thanks in advance

Firstly, thanks Spiggs. You really helped get me started on this.

It's slightly frustrating doing battle with ways to get the toggles to work as best they can for "On" and "Off" modes, but VA is very easy to use and the issues are just that there aren't the button config operations in ED 'yet' to accomplish certain things.

I'm now looking to replace Microsoft Anna. In doing so, I bumped into neospeech.com. You have to go there and paste in the text below or similar into their DEMO NOW! window. The UK Female would be the permanent voice for me if I had to choose one, but I'd be sorely tempted by the Japanese female voice as well, with the French Canadian 3rd. And listening to the Mexican female just cracks me up. :D

"Yes commander. Retract Hard points. Power to engines."

It's a shame these cost money to buy. I presume a lot, since you have to make a sales inquiry.

Just found their cost per word pricing :-

I may have mentioned this earlier in this thread, but if you're looking for a real human voice, check out the VRC link in my sig. It's a pack I've put together JUST for this purpose, it isn't free, but it's a hell of a lot cheaper than a TTS pack.

Just come back onto the forum after waging war with Win 7 64 bit and tts replacements.

I finally managed to get additional voices to MS Anna. I followed the following to the letter and it worked perfectly. Warning, alert alert, this takes you to the Star Citizen forum.

While I like the comedy of having foreign voices saying the words, the quality wasn't there for it to be good enough for the many many voices I downloaded and tried. I'm using Hazel ... so to speak. For reference, she's English rather than Scottish (as her name might imply).

Thanks. I might venture back to new voices in a little while, but I've had enough of fiddling around for a while now. Where's that joystick.

As ship computers already have their own voice , I'm opting for a non verbal VA, acknowledging beeps only.

The ONLIEST problem with text to speech readers is that, with a non-matching voice, ship sounds a little split personality?

Until such time as FD release a TTS profile that matches the in-game ship that is :D

I undertand what your saying an respect your view and the direction of sounds rather than actual banter from said automated voice and interaction, but for me it is all about the interaction with your ship and auto helper, especially from a disabled persons point of view. The ability to get more out of the game/sim with 3rd party help is amazing for someone limited and it's not till your in that situation that you appreciate what you had and any assistance that gives you back that sense of normality is what VA has done for me, to narrate your "automated voice companion" to how you want it to be is also an added bonus. I do not see it interfering with the current onboard auto response voice, and if FD do bring out an added TTS it will be interesting to see how it performs.

Meantime Emma (with an attitude) will serve me cake an coffee :D

What I'd like to see, and perhaps a feature request is n order, is the ability to adjust the game's music/effects and ship computer voice volumes separately.

Normally the effects and music are controllable, but voices are treated as effects. If ED gave that extra granularity we could really give our ships whatever personality we wanted.

Or perhaps add the option of replacing the current computer phrases with our own so they sound correct.

I don't have the music on as I found it annoying/too loud on occassions an made it hard for me to hear or get a response from VA due to the music/noise level at a particular time, so yes an added slider for computer voice could be doable tho not a programmer so might be difficult.

as for your other suggestions all sound plausible to me :)

OK, everything was working fine ... but now VoiceAttack hears nothing from my headset's microphone. If I go into Windows 7 "Recording Devices", my headphones are set as the default recording device and if I speak while that dialog box is up, the little green bars light up in recognition of me speaking. However, if I click the "Configure" button and the "Set up Microphone" and click through to the "Peter Dictates ..." sentence, the computer hears nothing, which it duly tells me.

As I say, VoiceAttack also doesn't hear me, but it does pick up words said on the computer (eg YouTube videos). I turned my speakers' physical volume down to zero, and VoiceAttack still registers the YouTube words as it they are loud and clear, which I believe means it is picking up "Stereo Mix". :S

Any reason why the keybindings aren't set ingame? Do I seriously have to go through all the vap commands and set them to manually ingame?
