No guarantees you will stop him, he might evade you, or he might kill you. Either way, while the PvP is going on, nobody is making progress on the BGS, so at best you get stalemate, worst case they evade you and then they are ahead.

The only way to beat someone is to play the BGS better than they do.

Both of us are not making progress but others do. Maybe he is an ace trader in a cutter that by stopping or delaying him I make a dent in their overall progress. Maybe we also have an ace trader on our side that wasnt stopped and we are winning, this is a dynamic conflict rather than a grind war. You just want a grind competition and think its an exciting gameplay.

Go on now, extend the logic there. What are those guys doing? Some trying to stop people? Some working the BGS? Who will win ultimately? The answer is simple, those with more working the BGS. If you have more than enough players to stop another group in their tracks (which would be impossible considering timezones, instancing, etc) then you wouldn't need the PvP to win in the first place, you'd be win a lot quicker without the PvP.

Chances are, no matter how good you are at PvP, there is always the chance on a 1 to 1 basis that an opponent will get through. And once they do, that's it, you are behind in the BGS war. Assuming both sides are knowledgable about the BGS, then its just a numbers game. The more player hours you have in filling the various buckets, the more chance you have of winning. Ultimately, you're just losing time trying to stop people.

I know you want to point to rebuys, but is that really a deterrent these days? Anyone who wants credits already has billions. And to work the BGS you don't even need an expensive ship. You just need to know what you are doing. If in a situation where PvP is possible, a cheap fast ship is probably a lot more useful than a PvP warship. Don't waste your time fighting off PvPers, break the blockade and make your delivery and get on with the show.

.... and painting a PvP target on one's ship is unappealing to those who eschew direct PvP (but prefer to play in Open).

Jesus Maynard how long you gonna beat around the bush.

You know as well as I do this is about Risk vs Reward and whether you would be stopped by someone you're attacking or not.

Of course people dont like to be stopped or PVP'd why would they?

Right, some people don't like to be interfered with for PvP. That's precisely why the Modes were embedded into the game's design from the start. When you don't want to be interfered with, you to can opt to use Solo, or a PG.

That may be true in the case of those who actually prefer direct PvP as a play-style yet choose to min/max in a different mode.

For those that don't prefer PvP as a play-style, there's no requirement whatsoever to play among those who do in order to engage in the various features of the game.

Put simply, one does not need to make oneself available for direct PvP to engage in indirect PvP, in this game, by design.

Aka I dont want to loose so I just press the "I win" button.

Which is a total disaster, by design, and PP "success" prooves how great it is.

Whats next ?

Xbox and Ps4 players need to make compromise because PC folks cant defend against them in open. Lets make console users have little influence on the BGS because.

Bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bal.

I'd go for passive mode in open if BGS influence got tanned in solo and pg.
Also, I would like insta bans on anyone who uses the fact another player uses passive to hurl insults, or illness, but instabans would do.

No, no, you don;t get it. Open-only guys can recruit across all Platforms. But it is impossible to recruit across all Modes. I mean come on. Isn't that obvious?

I'm actually warming up to the sentiment: you should play all parts of PvP. Not just one part and avoid the other one.

Not sure how to enforce it though. You can only play in Open after you influenced the BGS for a certain amount of %s?
