News Bonus Weekend: Trade & Engineering - Now live! (24/05 to 30/05)

Still makes no sense with the edit and explanation. For example G5 FSD(increased range) - before this weekend, you would need Arsenic, Chemical Manipulators, and Datamined Wake Exceptions ..... this weekend for the same Mod, you need a Chemical Distillery (a G4 engineer recipe ingredient), Eccentric Hyperspace Trajectories (a G4 engineer recipe ingredient), and Rhenium(which is a catagory 6, level 1 raw material), as opposed to Manganese, which is a G4 engineer recipe ingredient, and is a catagory 3 level 2 raw material. Why Rhenium has replaced Manganese is anybodies guess. The edit about using G4 materials is flawed at best, or completely wrong at worst

Clean out those cargo racks and get yourselves ready for a booming bank holiday (extended) weekend!

Starting from today to May 30, Commanders will see an increase to trading profits across the galaxy and the famous engineers will be reducing the material costs for their engineering recipes.

Want the lead when it comes to lasers? Well… visiting The Dweller has never been more appealing!

Date and Time: From today to (approximately) 11:00 AM UTC on May 30.

Bonuses:
  • All profits from trading activities will be increased (the amount of profit will vary depending on what you are shipping and where you’re shipping it to. Rare commodities are excluded from this bonus.)
  • The materials requested for engineering recipes will be at one rank below the existing ones (cheapening the current cost of engineering your modules.) Edit: There are 5 ranks for materials (as can be seen in the Material Trader) and 5 ranks for engineering recipes, and these are two different ranks. This bonus relates to the rank of materials, not the rank of engineering recipes. The cost for engineering a module at Grade 5 will use Grade 4 equivalent materials, not the materials seen in Grade of the engineering recipe of that same module. We have made the changes ingame to reflect the bonus, what you see ingame right now is what you need for engineering a module during this bonus period.

In addition to these ingame bonuses, there will also be a 25% off discount on a huge selection of Frontier Store items during this period. Check it out here!

Haul far and prosper, Commanders!

Is the discount only available for actual trading from commodity market to commodity markey does it include delivery missions as well?

Well, it seemed like a great idea, try an in-game gold rush, and throw in some engineering incentives. I actually think this is a great idea and fdev I hope will make a regular thing of these (if not actually increasing trade to this level permanently) however this bonus weekend really highlights how crap fdev are at both the implementation and communication about what they are doing.

Come on fdev you can do better than this, I want to heap praise on you.

Maybe we should have taken snapshots of different markets to see if the commodity prices truly changed. I don't know why Frontier doesn't communicate how much of a profit increase we can expect on average. Are selling prices down by 10%? 20%? Or can we sell for higher than usual? If so, by how much? How do we know we really earn more than otherwise?

So true

Per 'trading activities' I've been running cargo delivery missions. I haven't seen an increase in the best payouts.

I have seen:

1. There are more best payout missions. Sometimes 3-6 versus 1-3 when they hit.
2. Less cargo is transported to get the same payout.

For a large landing pad Cutter that provides more opportunities to fill up the hold versus using the medium pad
Python. The payout for transporting 120 cargo can be accomplished with say 96 cargo. 180 versus 120 etc.
There is no increase for the best 180. The profit increase is subtle but it is there.

Of course being allied with all factions and BGS status none/boom/civil war etc still applies.

Regards

Trading missions are not part of the bonus activities.

Trading missions are not part of the bonus activities.

The Frontier announcement stated 'trading activities'. Cargo delivery missions are part of trading. I made trade Elite with them. There has been a improvement per my post. Since starting trading I've made about 105 million versus 80 million previously for the same amount of time. Do the rough math that is a 24% increase which equates to the Frontier stated 30%.

When Frontier states that they are not part of the weekend bonus then I'll believe it. Until then enjoy the improvement. I am.

So am I understanding this correctly that to get the G4 engineering thing ALL blueprints have changed? Meaning that all any of the planning tools, ie EDEngineer/Inara are completely worthless and the only way to know what we need to gather is to go to each engineer and look at the changes to the blueprints? That seems to be the case from the one upgrade I'm looking at (overcharged power plants).

If so I'll echo many that this seems absolutely absurd. If this is further proof positive that Frontier stopped playing Elite around 2.3 or 2.4 I don't know what is.

They have stated that trading missions are NOT included.

Hmm, bit confused. I thought I'd take advantage of the engineering boost and sort all my lasers out at Broo Tarquin. Not got many heat vanes but enough for grade 4 mats, perfect. Travelled over there, transferred all my lasers ready to engineer... No engineering change here. Grade 5 Efficient still has the old materials. Heat vanes of which I have none. Have I got the wrong end of the stick on this one? Does it not include all engineering?

No, you're seeing the new (downgraded) requirements.

The usual blueprint requires Proto Head Radiators which are g5. They've been downgraded to Heat Vanes which are g4. You can see the old requirements on the wiki:

Not so, INARA shows the new requirments.

https://inara.cz/galaxy-blueprint/2/

As far as "I collected all the wrong mats, wasted time blah blah" also wrong, if you had 50 DMW for long range FSD you just trade everything down 1 rank for 3 to 6 times the number, It's a cake walk for blank upgrading, even better for topping off unfinished up grades remotely, No G5 mats needed at all.

Absolutly no idea what all fuss is over.

Three times as many rolls for the same price as the original.

I think this is a great idea Will, but I don't think I'm the only American who won't be playing a lot of Elite this weekend due to the Holiday...

Not sure if you guys noticed, but it's the Memorial Day Weekend in the USA, and many of us will be traveling and having family get-togethers, and I honestly think most of us will play less Elite this weekend than we do on a typical weekend.

Just FYI,

Fly Safe

Didi Vatermann still requires grade 5 mats for a grade 5 upgrade to shield boosters:S She's probably not read the memo as she's drunk from all that Lavian Brandy![yesnod]

Please fix asap, FDev; I don't have any Boron...

Incidentally, is this the best place to report "Bonus Weekend" problems?

Oh goody, on a weekend I'm thousands of light years away from anything resembling civilisation... Oh well back to my exploration.

Yes, that. Same as that. What we explorers really need is not a Bonus Weekend with no bonuses, but a Penalty Weekend where our accounts are locked, and when we return to them after the weekend we find that our ships have been destroyed and we've lost all of our exploration data. At least then we'll know that FDev are thinking of us.

i don’t know about edengineering but inara is showing the same blueprints as Elite is for the bonus week. Other words...either way, if you go and look at a Blueprint on inara or in game and it will still be the same requirements.

edit: oh well looks like that was answered a few times already.

Missions are not Trading... Missions are Hauling. That is the number one to remember. :)

I am currently earning 1.5 millions, both ways, 1 jump, Starports very close to the main star in both systems.

What does that mean?

Well, this is a loop route, and with my trade Anaconda (448t of cargospace), I am earning about 3 million / 10 minutes going back and forth between two Starports; 1 jump between the stars.

My Cutter will almost double that; still waiting for it to arrive. :)

That is nothing compared with hauling Missions that count for trade Ranking !!!
