To whomever suggested an alternative

Hope FD don't object but I just wanted to say thanks to whomever the person was in another thread who suggested playing 'Subnautica' if you like to get your exploration on. Not a plug by the company or anything dodgy like that, I'm an Elite player but read in a thread a month ago someone suggesting that exploration folks might like this game. Not one for survival games at all I took the plunge anyway and holy moley is it good - so thanks again to whomever it was - I owe you one - I escaped by the way - YAY! Now I am sad as left my Cuddlefish behind :'(

Anyways, hows Elite doing these days?

Still orange, still stuck in the chair. Challenger comes next week (and the Krait, if you value the rumours), could be a nice addition.

Subnautica is a really cool game. I can't even think of a game that did a better job on underwater environment. Lots of fun.

Funny you mention it OP, as I’ve been getting back into Subnautica over the last week or so. Nice to see it out of Beta finally.

Crabsquid still give me nightmares...

I’m tempted by subnautica. Because of the type of game it is and the VR element.
Whats the download size ?

Flimley

Yes, it’s a great game, but it’s as buggy as hell in VR. I usually start my day by slaughtering the innocent sea life that has made its way into my base and is miraculously swimming around in the air. This is what I’m currently grappling with. It’ll come back down in a minute or so :D:

Once it finally decides to come down, I'll need to do my best Stevie Wonder impression to turn the engines on. I can't seem to interact with my cuddlefish either.

VR is one thing that Elite does brilliantly - it's flawless.

They still haven’t fixed the flying Cyclops bug yet, eh?

I tried Subnautica in VR when it was still in beta, but couldn’t get used to using the gamepad controls, so I went back to being a monitor-peasant (plus, I REALLY don’t want to run into a Reaper Leviathan in VR).

Once you’re out of the shallows, the whole thing is terrifying – just descending into the depths creeps me out. I play Alien Isolation/Mother VR as a reprieve. :)

I found this unintentional screenshot from my early game. I must have just clutched the controller in horror. [haha]

Some have fun, some grind, some play forum pvp. And my Cuddlefish is still missing... I want Cuddlefish bobblehead now!

Ha! Mine got eaten alive by a pack of biters. And I never get in the way of mother nature, so, well, he might have been cute, but in the end he was still fish food.
(says the guy who murdered almost all of the reef and lava zone leviathans because they scratched his cyclop paint)

I don’t mind the Reapers so much as the Ghost Leviathans and Crabsquid. They just plain give me the creeps.

I have an animal containment tank full of Crabsquid at my main base – I’m quite fond of them. I’m with you regarding the Ghost Leviathans though. I’ve just built a secondary base by the Giant Cove Tree in the Lost River and have to run the gauntlet each time to get there, bloody thing screaming at me as I try not to snag my lumbering Cyclops on the way through.

Despite my moaning, if you can get use to the controller I’d recommend giving it another shot in VR. Descending into the really deep parts is quite an experience.

You know you can make sushis out of it, right? It's probably the easiest of the leviathans to kill. Of course, if you like having them around, don't, as they do not respawn.
