Game is doomed.

"Yes, it is amazing, it's gone well. This has been its best year both in terms of players, and also in terms of how well it's doing for us, because these things aren't about money but we can spend more on development. There are a lot of dedicated people that just making it better and better, and we've got some exciting things to come - not just talking Beyond. We're in a really good place to be." - Ed

So yeah the game is dead/doomed.

Yes that was nice to hear.

Oh look, it's this week's "doom" thread. Or did that already happen?

I suppose when you see enough of them, you kind of lose track.

Without figures they won't release that I wouldn't believe anyway I don't believe you.

I wish they would release a seemingly unambiguous statement creating a threadnaught of at least 90 pages arguing over a minor difference in semantic meaning.

In other words: Sorry for not putting too many ressources into it, we still have visions but you can rest assured that nothing of it will be in 3.1"

Just to put some sarcasm into this thread :)

Don't get these dead/dying threads.

This games been going "technically" from the 1980s... Elite isn't a new game it has a massive following more than enough player base to keep it going.

Firstly player numbers are good they aren't world of warcraft level but they are high on Steam, we don't know client numbers but can assume they are equal or more or less the same so we're near 10k daily.

Secondly Frontier have a lot of IPs and other games doing well. Planet Coaster and Jurassic thingy mabob have both made money. Elite still makes money through the Frontier Store as well as game sales. Frontier have Xbox stuff and Braben was a founder of the Rasberry Pi... there is loads of cash in reserve or things to sell off to fund this game.

David Braben has proven time and time again he makes good games he is one of the most experienced CEOs in the gaming industry. 80s Elite are a revolution in gaming and one of the first open world games.

Yes Elite and space games are marmite but things are good. This game will never hit millions of players per day but plenty of smaller indie games with a smaller daily player base have survived and thrived.

Yes. Nibiru is coming. We all saw the signs! I mean, no, not the signs from last year or from the year before... I mean, _this_ time Nibiru is _really_ coming... right? ;)

What else would you expect said by someone employed by the company to manage the community of the company...

He's not going to say:

"Yes it's amazing, it's all gone well. This has been the best year for us in general due to the money we've made from Jurassic World and the fact that we have such a monopoly on the space game genre that we've been able to park Elite in maintenance mode under the pretense of "a year of focusing on core gameplay updates". All the while keeping the embers burning away with minor updates and marketing hype so that we can resume development in 2019 as if nothing had happened."

Nope it isn't. I have it on reliable Martian news that it has moved past the sun and is now heading for Andromeda.

I do love a good ED is DOOMED thread with my afternoon coffee.

Especially love the DOOMED threads that incite feelings of optimism.

Coffee always tastes better for it.

Good job h347h
