We're into Q2, 3.1 is out, FD have released more paid 'content'. So... Where's the stuff? You know... The stuff LEP holders are supposed to get for 'free'. Where is it? What is it? TELL US SOMETHING FD... ANYTHING....

Edit: Who thought naming 3.1 'chapter 2' was a good idea........ Time for more coffee....

Sorry, do you mean the chargable DLC that's supposedly coming out around Q4 this year?

And then of course in 2019 I assume ED 4.0 will come out which will be chargable?

I suspect/hope either the Q4 DLC or ED 4.0 will be atmospheric landings...

They said they were moving away from the seasons model, but they didn't mention how big these DLC's will be. For all we know they could be as big as a whole season but just done in one big DLC fully complete and upfront.

We just don't know at the moment.

Which is why my post was clearly speculation, it's like the timeline wait and see is the sensible approach.

CobraIV was given to all players who bought ED in it's first year on PC and XBox (this may or may not come to PS4 as well).

Are you sure. I thought the Cobra Mk4 was a Horizons pre-order exclusive. The Viper Mk4 was for getting the Beta in the original game. It was all confusing at the time.

I won't argue the point but I did not have access to the Cobra IV until after I had Horizons.
It came out with Horizons, and it sounds like, was only available if you bought Horizons (open to correction on that of course).

"Existing players will also unlock the exclusive Cobra Mk IV ship in Elite Dangerous: Horizons. The Cobra Mk IV will be available in the game only to players who joined us in the first year – forever. It’s our ‘thank you’ for your faith in the game, and you’ll see more of the Cobra Mk IV in Friday’s Peek Of The Week." - https://community.elitedangerous.com/en/node/247

The reason this gets lumped together, is because there have been several things which were given to people for pre-ordering, or buying early.

Obviously, someone who bought the LEP, has pre-ordered everything, and bought everything early, so they get any of those offers as well.

Nothing at all is entirely exclusive to LEP holder, they just get everything that is exclusive in any circumstance.

Oh, right, yep.

Well, as an Lep owner myself, I don’t think it would go amiss if FD threw us a paintjob or something with every “free” update. Seems only fair. Speaking of which, weren’t we supposed to get something for staying with the newsletter? I hate to think they are just going to forget these offers they’ve made once they have already gotten what they wanted.

It could also very well be they are one and the same thing.

It will need to be something meaty, not just some created "LEP Specific" nonsense and a decal.

Wait and see has been the approach for the last four years and it's been counterproductive for the game progression, but very productive for the development of Frontier itself.

Now it's time to plug that created revenue, back into the game and catch up.

There's a lot of catching up to do.

That was the Conda paintjob, I think they said we'd be getting that in November.

True! I hadn't considered that, probably because of the way FD have mentioned it...

But from a calendar POV it may not look likely?

eg: 3.1 has just come out... Say 3.2 in Aug/Sep? So 3.3 in Nov/Dec?

IMHO it would seem to make sense if the DLC was released in parallel with 3.3 almost as an optional exta. Sort of like, the improvements in exploration in 3.3, allow you to find and then land on atmospheric worlds offerd in the DLC :)

I guess 4.0 could be released in Nov/Dec instead of a DLC almost on the toes of 3.3? Guess we'll see...

I suspect that the DLC will not have a point number, espcially if it is opening up another planet type, it may not need it. I would assume that 4.0 would be the next free update in Q1 of next year if that is the model going forward.

TBH, I've always had the feeling that the only reason they said they're moving away from "seasons" is because it put them in a position where they're obligated to provide content on an ongoing basis, in a timely manner, because customers have already paid for it.
Standalone DLC packages means they can cobble them together over whatever timescale they see fit without being subject to criticism.

It's not a good thing that they've elected to abandon the "season" model and we're actually lucky that we've got LEP'ers who're justified in nagging FDev to provide what they already paid for.

Fun thread.

Personally I don't like being made to feel like a sucker. Maybe one day my 3 for 2 deal on expansion packs will come good but until that day I'm left with a bitter taste in my mouth over this, the communication has been appalling from Frontier on this topic.

Nevertheless as Unicorn so tactlessly points out over & over again like a proper troll, they already have my money.

When DB talks (like at the beginning of the 3.1 pre-launch livestream on Thursday) I feel confident that it's going to come good eventually, when Steve Kirby & Dav were talking I felt confident in the company's competence & passion for the games they make, when the communications team talk I cringe.

And so I continue to wait, drumming my fingers increasingly loudly on the table.

Just tell us the things Frontier, it's been far too long for 'we don't want to spoil the surprise', any element of excitement has been completely lost over the past 3 years.

Just tell us the things please, and when you expect those things to be delivered.

It's the truth. Deal with it.
