I've been drinking a fair bit of fruit teas lately, while I make efforts to cut out the sugar.

At first I really hated the stuff. I mean it was disgusting.

But, knowing that this stuff is much better than cola or whatever, I have persevered.

I actually quite like the stuff now. :)

Good job, man!

I don't an aversion to fruit teas as much as I do "flavored" seltzer waters. They all taste like chemical water to me. Much happier with plain ol' seltzer.

That's really fast progress.

So, what's in a "fruit tea"? And does it help weight loss better than regular tea?
I stopped the sugar in mine years ago, because 12 cups a day.

I just drink black tea with no sugar as of lately. There are some tricks to make it more bearable, or even find your new favorite thing :) I put a little branch of rosemary in a cup, and few leaves of mint. It instantly elevates it from just being slightly bitter water to having a party for my mouth and nose :D

I stopped drinking milk in tea and coffee a decade ago.

As for fruit and herbal teas: Ginger is a root not a fruit but it makes a good tea if you use fresh ginger.

They don't help weight loss per se... But they're meant to be drunk without milk or sugar.

I'm struggling with plain water so fruit tea is the next best thing as there's practically nothing in it.

There is only one way to drink coffee: that is black and without sugar ;)

My wife drinks a lot of fruit teas I kind of like the ginger ones (yeah its not a fruit but hey)

Black, no sugar, no cream. +1

Good for you, I can't get past them smelling nicer than they taste. So I drink water with a splash of fresh fruit juice and sometimes a sprig of crushed mint.

You can't drink them but I heartily recommend these as a very nice low fat alternative to the real thing (5% instead of 20% fat):

This - a twist of lime in your water is much better than lime flavored water.

You know how amazing you feel once you get sugar out of your system. it's a wierd feeling of continous energy. Even when tired (I work mostly nights) you still have this undercurrent of latent charge you can tap into if needed. No more cyclic ups and downs. hitting that sugar high, then nose diving into a pit of knackeredness.

I'd recommend looking for some more funky teas. I dont know if you like spicy food, but if you do you should really discover the world of spicy tea. And if you like more oriental food there is tons of fun stuff like ginger tea etc, that is far more tasty that 'orange tea' and that stuff. :)

Welcome to the world of tea!
The rabbit hole goes pretty deep. Start looking at Chinese and Taiwanese loose leaf teas. There are flavors so interesting that you wouldnt want to change them at all.
If you like fruit flavored teas, try some Dan Cong. Has a distinct and natural lychee flavor. Try some Long Jing. Has an undeniable nutty flavor. Many of the Bai Mudan teas have a lemon flavor to them. I am a huge drinker of High mountain teas from Taiwan. They have a sweet creaminess that I love. Then we get into Puehr tea. These have a earthy flavor. Not for the beginner as you need to have correct brewing parameters or they taste like a swamp.
I hope you stick with tea and expand your palate. You can really become like a wine connoisseur, but you can drink it all day without having a problem!

Sounds like a plan. I might also give Earl grey tea another go.

Ah i see. No milk is part of it obviously. Hmmm well if you are finding the fruit tea's a bit erm 'rough' have you tried a herbal tea like mint? Does not need milk or sweetner either (i prefer a bit of milk as i'm british and we put milk in everything).
