How to disagree

Come on now, that's terribly misleading, whether through ignorance or naivety. You should learn to research your topics.

Evochron Legacy is the latest iteration in a long-running line of Space-sims, which started with Star Wraith back in 1999; each game's release is a continuation of the project with improvements and additions over the previous. 2004's Riftspace was the predecessor to the Evochron franchise. The sole-developer is very open about this: http://www.spacecombat.org/
You and your facts ... these legs threads are no place for such things.

The facts are there are people here who don't game, they just play ED. They've not had years of gaming experience or played different games nor do they keep up with the industry or have any input into it giving them no basis of fact or experience to comment about certain things which is true about all subjects.

We are not worthy.

The answer to the ops question is "in development"

A better question/discussion topic would be "do people believe that future features talked about by fdev will ever come to pass?"

They're not ad hominems.

Except they are. You just went straight for a personal disqualification (twice) without answering my request for more specifics/facts.

OK onto "facts" - what do you mean, "I" don't like it. CQC and PP were hated and still are and hardly anybody plays them. Engineers are massively mixed in results and the Thargoids are around the same.

Ok, this is an important point and it is going to be difficult to continue the conversation without clarifying it.

Your original claim was FDEV´s lack of content. Not that you (or my neighbour) do not like it.

It is not the same thing:

- Claiming "lack of content" can be discussed in detail a bit more objectively, especially when compared to other dev teams.
- Claiming you or my neighbour do not like some of it is not a topic really for debate, it is what it is. Nice to know, but it is what it is.

No. But if Zac is correct about premium content this year, GC should be perfect venue to reveal that (that's what Max Factor talks about).

It is still a guess, they might keep that reveal for later cases, but still...curious.

Oh ok I misunderstood your post.
If they don't announce another Frontier Expo before that I think they'll make this premium content reveal at GC as there is no big video game event until the end of the year except maybe Paris Game Week but I don't remember that FD has ever been there.

Well then you can say exactly the same about ED from Elite - FE2 - FFE - ED
"Ok, I was wrong due not researching properly, so please now take aim at these moved goalposts."

While FFE is an iteration on FE2, Elite and Elite Dangerous have completely different engines and codebases compared to the other games in the series. How much of Elite 4's skunkworks development remains in Elite Dangerous we may never know.

The StarWraith/RiftSpace/Evochron line are all iterations upon iterations from the engine and codebase first-used back in 1999. How much of Star Wraith remains in Evochron Legacy? Probably less than 5%, but without the previous games and their tech-iterations EL wouldn't exist today.

Besides it doesn't change the fact that it's 1 guy - exactly 1/100th of what we're told ED's staffing levels are. Your post total undermines his efforts to make a game all by himself.
I didn't undermine his efforts: his game exists and is great fun. Unlike yourself I showed great respect to his long-history and steadfastness in following his dream - start from scratch, keep adding & interating, never give up.

If anything I undermined your poorly-researched comment. GGWP :)

So how do you explain the lack of content compared to smaller development houses then?

So how many staff are working on it then? Presumably you're allowed to tell us now that you've joined the conversation and given away you've been in the room with them - let's have some figures?

They're entirely different games. I know that's kind of wacky, but there you go.

Because 2.5 years of no content and nothing but vague 'something' 'sometime' answers is an opinion and not a fact... Oh wait...

Don't you guys understand the incredible roadmap?

It's not a conspiracy - I gave my reasonings using other and much smaller dev teams. So either they have over 100 staff working on it and they're massively incompetent somewhere down the chain (be that managment, skillset or employees), they have 100 staff working on it but each staff member puts in 10 minutes of work before going back to JWE thus satisfying a legal objection to saying how many staff you have working on it or they don't have over 100 staff working on it.

What other options are there?

That you don't know diddly squat about game development and rather remain quietly confident of that fact you decide to remove all doubt and say ridiculous things without due consideration?

Nice strawman. I was talking about LEP only 'content' and communication, which there has been NONE in 2.5 years, but you know that already.

FDev have never said that owners of the Lifetime Expansion Pass would get "LEP only 'content' and communication". Horizons has already been released, and the next Premium Content is coming later this year.

What strawman?

  • "no content for LEP owners"
  • "here's the content that LEP owners have had so far"
  • "I don't count that! I'm talking about some dreamed-up LEP-exclusive content that was never promised"

So how do you explain the lack of content compared to smaller development houses then?

So far you haven't produced any evidence they are comparable. Obviously you don't understand development and lack insight how big software projects are rolled out and how complex they are and become over time.

This is what I dislike about this echo chamber in nutshell - you have zero evidence FD is slacking, that they are lazy, that they don't produce content fast enough. In fact, there's indirect evidence that it is actually hard to make such game as ED a reality. Guys with more experience in field seems to be agreeing that while slow progress can be frustrating, in reality it is how long actually it takes to produce such games.

That's why there's no ED competition out there.

Horizons and Beyond are part of LEP, in fact.

What you wanted to say there's no new exciting gameplay hinted by FD what would be covered by LEP and it is understandable frustration. Doesn't mean clarity is not required.
