Updates are coming!

Details regarding future updates from Bo on Reddit.

Different to those on here, or the same?

Edit: I guess so. it's so annoying having to dig for information elsewhere, so I just found the reddit thread and posted that in the Forum announcement thread, for others like me.

So, Carnivore's will now use their hunger level to govern hunting, well... that is great news at least.

I honestly haven't seen such myself, mind you, I don't follow youtubers, visit reddit or the likes.
Oh I wasn't targeting you, I've just seen enough doom and gloom on these forums to last a lifetime - too many people have given up or seem to think that Frontier don't care, when apparently the opposite is true.

Personally, I never thought it would be abandoned, but am hoping for more than new dino's, which IMO, the game is not ready for, yet. Similar perhaps, in a way to when Frontier said, they want to get the land dino's right before thinking about aquatic etc.
I think it's wise for them to do that honestly. There's no point just throwing new Dinosaurs at us when other elements of gameplay need looking at first. In any case, I'm not totally sure which other [unique] Dinosaurs are left to add; they seem to have covered a good portion of them already;

  • Thyreophora (Ankylosaur & Stegosaurus plus sub-species)
  • Hadrosaurs (Edmontosaur, Parasaurolophus, Tsintaosaurus)
  • Sauropods (Diplodocus, Brachiosaurus, Apatosaurus)
  • Raptors (and the 's)
  • Spinosauridae (Spinosaurus, Baryonyx)
  • Carnotaurinae (Carnotaurus, Majungasaurus)
  • Allosaur (Allosaurus, Giganotosaurus)
  • Tyrannosaur

It's great having more Dinosaurs, but if they all start to look practically the same, what's the point in them? I give credit to Frontier here in that, for the most part, the choices they've made allow for enough of a variation.

Whilst I would expect content packs / dlc to not be free, I would like to think that bug fixes and general gameplay improvements would be free, especially this early on.
Well the next DLC is free, and will likely consist of many bug fixes and gameplay changes opposed to new Dinosaurs.

Unfortunately we are not able to change the size of the dinosaurs. This would cause a host of technical problems across all other dinosaurs.
Sorry, but the hell? I'm no game designer, nor am I a game coder, but the limited experience I've had with modding games over the years, scaling something is more often than not one of the easiest and simplest of things to do. I honestly can't fathom how resizing a Dinosaur would cause any problems. I'd love a breakdown of this reason, cause (if I'm being totally honest) I'm not buying it. Anyone who's seen JP3 would know that the Spino & Rex are of equal size, and yet the game obviously shows differently; it's one thing to not notice this error in testing, but another not to have a way to fix it.

As for everything else on that reddit post [above] it's great that other carnivoes are going to cut back on their hunting of innocent herbivores and goats, but everything else (currently) seems like "we've heard you, but nope." [blah] I would say however that island sizes (except is it Isla Pena; that small one) are perfectly fine and viable for me. I don't want every single Dinosaur on each island anyway.

I didn't take it like that, I know you wasn't ;)
I'm quite pleased to read that Carnivores hunting antics is being / has been addressed for the next update, my maps are ready for it :)

It just says update, rather than patch; maybe it's a bit of both. In any case, whatever it is, we aren't being charged for it.

Yes I am just saying. If an update is just for fixing bugs and minor gameplay things like stopping an incubation process you shouldn't pay for it anyway because that is simply a patch.

I don't care if I have to start again, increase those island sizes. It's not like I'm gunna play again till this happens, so who even cares? If it's really such a big problem make it an optional DLC or something.

Some people will. Break their saves and a storm will brew. Not that there isn't alternative solutions for Frontier to implement such.
Guess we have to wait and see, or not.

With the carnivore hunting thing being adjusted, that's potentially one big thing off my list.
The next, which seemed to be skipped over in the reddit thread is "feeder resupply" (tall herbivore ones being the most demanding).
Really looking forward to some good news in this department. I can't take it any more :) and can't be bothered to load up any save because I know my first task is refill feeders, remove dead dinos and replace them with new ones.

Maybe some people care about their save, but seeing as the game isn't challenging at all I don't see why it matters that you have to restart an island or two. Especially Nublar, where it's a sandbox where money is fake news. Having to start again there is no issue at all.
If it really matters that much, like I said they could make it optional. Hell, they could sell it for a few bucks and make some money off of it lol

Indeed, they could. Lots of games use steams DLC delivery system for optional extras, like HD texture packs etc.

On the subject of sizes... since the maps are small and likely staying that way for a while, I really think the hotel capacity needs doubling.
It's ridonculousosaurus how many are needed for the capacity ratings on such a small map. I know this is sandbox and it doesn't matter, but I needed 8 of the things to satisfy the demand... and I could still do with one more. https://i.imgur.com/vaIePyj.jpg

Can't recall if I posted that in the wishlist, meh one more time won't hurt.

Well speaking for myself, I'm out till there's proper sized maps. All the other fixes are pointless if that primary problem isn't addressed, and the longer it isn't addressed the worse it will get, especially if they start spamming species DLCs. The indication that they don't want to touch the current maps is very concerning and disappointing, and sparing some change of course in the future I fail to see the point of getting invested in this game. We'll see what happens, I guess.

EDIT: As for the hotels, they could give them upgrade slots, I guess. But that's a bandaid solution really.

I think you maybe took it wrong, slightly. They clearly indicated that they are willing to change the maps and have tried it internally, but it lead to breaking saves (which I also don't care about). So they need to find another way (and there are lots of other ways). Problem is, it's a waiting game without knowing if what you are waiting for is even part of the plan. Mind you, when the road map / more info is released, then we may know. Stuff from today was just tidbits of info, I hope.

FWIW, I'm not satisfied with lots of things in the game, map size, dino Ai / interactions and mundane tasks demanding my attention constantly, being my top 3.

Yeah, the dino AI is goofy and I could easily see those mundane tasks becoming more and more of a problem if it were possible to make a park of a reasonable size.

Well im glad hunting will be based on hunger. Thanks frontier for that.

It sounds like since they said future content in regards to map size, sleeping, and hunting animations.... That they are planning to do some work in those areas.

I can see them just creating a brand new island for sandbox that you can name Nublar or whatever you want. That could solve the save issues... Just make a 6th island.

On Reddit, Bo said we'll hear the JP3 sounds of Spinosaurus more often. Even at the time of the roar when he leaves the Hammond Lab.

That's good to hear. I've heard it in game, but only in passing when i was focused elsewhere. Even just adding it to the Release sequence would go a long way for Spino fans.
