Anyone else noticed other games like ED?

Anyone else noticed other games like ED?

For example, No Man's Sky is touting the PG thing with how many systems and the time it would take to explore everything. http://www.pcgamesn.com/no-mans-sky/no-mans-sky-wont-be-infinite-it-might-well-be

Another, Enemy-Star fighter plays (to my eyes) extremely close to ED and take a look at the links video at :20, look familiar?

There's more, I'm too lazy and this isn't important enough to dig them out but, I think it's rather faltering in some respects, at the very least a boon for gamers.

Is it just me or are there a lot of games coming soon that has a lot of the same basic ideas ED does? I'm not suggesting anyone has "borrowed" anything from some one else, just that the similarities certain aspects of various games have with ED.

Maybe I'm looking too hard but, I see ED in a lot of things and thats all good in my eyes. :D

There are many games that are copies, derivatives, inspired by, influenced by, similar to, not unlike etc.

And then there is Elite :)

There has certainly been a resurgence of the genre in general in the last few years. A good thing.

Limit Theory

This looks like win, so much win I can barely contain myself, It's what the X series should have become. I am so all over that, the nanosecond it comes out.

To be honest, I'd never heard of Elite until ED. I wrongly assumed another game was the "father" of sandbox space type games. Silly me :D

So, I think the entire genre owes itself to Elite. ;)

The whole genre coming back is fantastic. Great time to be a gamer. Let's just hope it doesn't fizzle soon with another 20 year wait, I may not be around by that time :D

Please, everyone knows Star Citizen is the best of the lot.

I mean, why would they be selling ships for 400$ and lasers 15$ apiece if they weren't the absolute *BEST*? Matter of fact, they're so far above Elite that for their community, this game and X Rebirth are basically indistiguishable.

Wouldn't it be simply amazing if we could get ALL these developers working on the same game? Holy crap imagine if that happened one day.

Or even more miraculous, if multiple games could be merged into a single seamless galaxy. SC in one area, No Man's land in another and on and on, all seamlessly working together. Impossible I know but, it would be fantastic.

if i want to play "no mans land" so i buy it and play it...

i dont understand the sense of this questions that op posted ?????

->

elite is a space sim, not a FPS.

(ye we can also drop to planets for....)

It's cool that there is a resurgence but I feel it's too in your face. It now seems everyone and their mother is making a space Sim. It's not a bad thing, just wish it was more spread out.

I see your point but, it'll be nice to have a library of space games waiting in the wings, so to speak, if I ever get bored with ED.

Then again it's a lot of competition for ED these days.

Elite is the mother for all space, trading, combat simulation game, think Elite might of been the very first sandbox game as well

I paid £40 for XRebirth to tide me over until ED came out, thinking that XRebirth would be nearly the same as ED and the other X game, may as well of set fire to my £40

LOL....there are some that are so religious about their choice they can't see the good in other areas....

But yeah....$400 for a ship....WHA!? They've already raised a gazilion $'s....they still have to charge their backers for actual ships too!? Their release has been pushed and not rescheduled....have to wonder about that.

I hope SC succeeds too but chargind for ships....man.

That ship better come with automated golden Robot-Owls, carrying you to the toilet, and wiping the posterior for you. Pardon the imagery. But that is what I expect for 400$. :D

I agree every space game is a win for us all, more generally. :)

No golden owls so far, but you can buy an astro-golf cart to carry you to your astro-toilet. For 15$.

Just as much as a single laser. Or 5$ more than the decorative workbench. Or 10$ more than a *MODEL* ship. Bargain prices, I'm telling ya!

A friend of mine is an avid SC backer. He is most excited about details on ships - for example - cargo bay doors that open, turrets that "recoil" after every shot, that kinda things. And he will buy ships that has these details.

I'm pretty sure that $400 ship must be highly detailed to command such a price.

Personally I wouldn't be able to spend $400 on a game let alone "just a ship". If I could, I would have already backed ED at the Alpha level :)

Why even link to that troll thread?

Seriously this was an OK thread until you derailed it with this rubbish

False. This thread has been spent on talking about games similar to ED until you posted on it.

You're welcome to re-rail it any time you feel like it tho.

Are you laughing at people who have money to blow? That makes me think you are jealous.

Are you laughing at SC because they've raised a [redacted] ton of money? So you are jealous again?

I could see if you were making fun of the game when it released and the prices were still this high, but all that cost is there to help develop the game. So I don't understand why you are laughing.

Far from mocking people that have money to blow, I've been into Elite since early beta. I'm just very happy for being into the game where money doesn't give you more advantage than a cool looking paintjob. I'm just pointing out a fact, really, I have tons of more justifiable material if I wanted to laugh at SC, don't fret.

Speaking of, are those strawmen free? Because I fear you might have been wasting your money otherwise.
