No Man's Sky recent success is good sign for Elite and future Space games/sims

No VR means I still won’t touch NMS with a 10-foot pole. What’s the point of quadrillions of planets if I can’t feel like I’m really there?

Some bulletpoints require far more work then others, lets see "Spoilers for the t9" or "Implementing multiplayer".

Believability for me. Or rather suspence of disbelief.

Firing at something and have little numbers float up? I'll pass thank you very much.

And if you like that sort of thing? By all means, have at it!

I think these sort of things are fine for some games, but they wouldn't really mesh well with ED. I like ED's "realistic" type approach for things, and would like to see more of them for the game over other gamey gameplay type mechanics.

Yep. I don't want to find 3 spaceships crashed on each planet. I don't want to find highly evolved aliens on every Earth Like World. I want these things to be an event, not run of the mill.

Compared to a sterile, lifeless and literally empty planet with nothing to do but shoot rocks...

NMS might have went a bit overboard in that respect, but compared to what elite planets are like, it’s sorta a no brainer.

Now if fd were to do that but in elite style, I’m sure it would be the best thing since sliced bread. But they haven’t, so there is literally nothing in elite to compare it too.

I love both games but only one of them is boring...subjective certainly but it’s a more common theme than the exception...it’s like loving one because it has all the stuff the other doesn’t have...yet.

Between now and whenever, one has to fill the time with something...different...or stay here and nothing changes...business as usual which quite frankly is boring as hell ^

I can understand you. I am totally dependent on VR in Elite. However NMS is often so Beautiful that it makes somewhat up for it. Wish it had VR though.

On Another note, this thread is funny, people trying to persuade others into liking Another game :)

You're welcome to your preference. I got my own.

You don't have to understand it, you just have to accept it.

Appreciate the heads up. :) But that was rather an illustration for the whole game. If that were the only thing I had issues with, I'd be playing it already.

I'm playing it, although I'm not sure for how long, I'm just not sure it's for me. I love how you shoot at something to get materials, say a large tree for carbon, and watch the countdown (circle/dial) as you harvest only to have the item explode and disappear when completed. Sure, the mining in ED isn't terribly authentic what with little chunks getting blown off, but it would be stranger still to have a little harvesting counter then watch the asteroid blow up and disappear. Here's hoping the new mining changes in ED will be good.

Yes, definitely for me at least. I like that some or even most planets are like that, though of course I don't think they all should be. Having a sense of stranded isolation on an empty world other than a bit of nice vistas now and then can be very appealing sometimes.

They're different games with different appeals.

Fair enough but he was talking about work previously, sometimes his comments are a little hard to umm follow lol

(Warning: Personal Opinion Follows) As I said, I am not against it, just I can't see it being as good as some are saying it will be and it will just generate more salt, more FD bashing. Some will think they can have D&Ms with their cute NPC co-pilot and get upset when she knocks him back lol

We're not asking for Mass Effect we're asking for Privateer. Or the system in NMS for that matter. Extremely basic things like: bribing a pirate to leave you alone, asking for directions to local points of interest, offering to do a favor, etc.

Its extremely generic and basic in NMS and nonetheless adds a tremendous amount to the game.

Heh, I landed on a forsaken dead planet in NMS yesterday, even there was ten times more to do then on any planet in ED.
I don't want to ridicule one game over the other but this misconception of NMS being a bubblegum colored kids game is absurd.
No nms isn't as "realistic" as ED but it deliveres a lot of fun gameplay, you either like it or not, don't try to convince others that it's not good, let them have their own opinion.

I love Elite's visuals and sound, the ships are simply awesome but after getting the ships you want and how you want them there's just not a lot to do.
NMS is visualy not as strong and flying the ships either but there's tons of gameplay, fun things to do with a good effort vs reward system.
If you think otherwise, good for you, have fun the way you want it, playing the game you want.
One fact is clear though, Fdev needs to step up to keep a whole bunch of players interested, I've read it quite often by now that people rather play nms now then ED, I'm one of them and I used to see myself as a genuine ED fan.

Heck even the Krait Raider kit went unnoticed when it was released last Friday, at least I haven't seen anyone posting it on DD or the Xbox forum.

For my preferences playing the game, even ED is too gamey for playing ED sometimes. I try and mitigate much of the meta progression and the like that I just don't find appealing for the game. Funny thing is that that sort of thing can be fine for me for some other games, but just not with how I choose to approach and play Elite.

I'm not particularly interested in the Krait nor the Raider kits for that matter, but I'm pretty sure there was a thread about it, though it had a rather ambiguous title, as I recall.

Personaly the visuals of space and the ships etc. make ED a very believable game to me, I love that about ED.
NMS doesn't try to be realistic imho but fun and interesting, open for your imagination.
I like both games a lot, it's just that doing the same thing over and over again becomes boring, especially because there aren't that many activities you can choose from in ED.
Another thing is the grind factor, imho the effort vs reward balance is much better in NMS.
