The Star Citizen Thread v9

Well, they are doing a mix of things. They have procedural tools in order to create planets with biomes, object and areas which they can then fine tune to fit an area so they can procedurally create a planet with biomes and then edit that afterwards and craft specific locations.

Nah, it's just Chris being Chris, waffling on about something he has only a vague handle on, leavened with a bit of assuming that just because he says it can be done, someone at CIG will make it so by the end of next week.

I saw a heated discussion about the world building just the other day. A gallery of images was linked showing why PG tools is just not going to be enough. Apparently a lot of these systems are steeped in lore which would require quite a lot of uniqueness and not just in the planets and the cities but also NPCs, contextual missions etcetera

It was being argued the development time for each of these elaborate planets would far exceed a reasonable timescale to see 100 star systems in the game and looking at that artwork I am inclined to agree.
What amount of man hours are some of these cities going to consume, can anyone give an extremely rough guess?

They haven't been able to handcraft 100 ships in 8 years.

They will have the tools and the pipelines in place any day now and then we will get a ship a week, just you wait and see.

So they'll be done by mid-2021 then, at which point they will have introduced new ones and the whole thing has to be moved forward to 2023. :p

Once Hurston is in place it will only be weeks before we get the whole of the Stanton system and once that is done they will be releasing 5 systems with each quarterly patch. I fail to understand how people can be so skeptical.

But seriously, it's kind of funny how even such a simple mathematical exercise as “how much would you say they can make in a given timeframe; how much time does that mean in total” was pointed out almost half a decade back, and even the most optimistic answers would put the completion somewhere in the late 'teens. And that was before anyone had seen how long it would take to complete just one ship/planet/system/location/whatever and before people started trying to push forward the “real start of development” to 2014 2015 2016 2017 because [reasons].

It is a very strange situation in all honesty, almost as though people only want to see what is immediately infront of them instead of extrapolating and seeing what it means as part of the bigger picture.

Because this game was originally promised to come out in 2014, and here it is mid 2018, and all they’ve given us is a pre-Alpha and 20+ shell companies?

I wouldn’t mind it still not being released so much, if it wasn’t for all the shell companies which scream, IMO, “Hollywood accounting.” That’s what prompted me to get my refund while it was still possible.

Yes, but first they need to finish the pipelines! :D

He has a habit of doing that, as do many SC fans. I watch his videos occasonally, not for any actual information as he's often just reading a out change notes for a recent patch or some other garbage non-content, but just to see how he is going to spin the latest scrap thrown from the masters table.

If you want to see genuine, if at times rabid, critque of SC you could do a lot worse than checking out FTR. A one time fan and mini-whale(?), he withdrew from the compound of Roberts and now dissects the PR of CIG and shines a light on it.

Also add Bootcha (the Sunk Cost Galaxy series is/was outstanding) and new bug Star Criticism.
