PvP My recent experience with (combat) logging

Oh dear PvPers, I feel your pain. Seriously.

I'm just starting into PvP and flew around a bit at the CG and the nearby systems.

By the mere glimpse of a CMDR in a FdL (my PvP boat of choice), CMDRs dropped out of supercruise (totally ok)
and out of the game (totally annoying) in nearly all cases. *sigh*

I wasn't wanted, sure I had an interdictor on board, but still. Most of them couldn't even have scanned me.
I even had my ship tagged with "Operation IDA" and "o7'd" them to notice CMDRs I'm one of the good guys.

Best was a CMDR at the Lowell, who noticed me dropping into the instance, logged.
45 seconds later he reappeared. I texted him that I mean no harm and he logged again.
Only to reappear again 45 seconds later. Seriously, why play in open that way?
Bragging rights? "Hey I survived open by logging everytime I see a CMDR?" Seriously?

Do everyone a favor and play in mobius. I like it there, it's comfy and they have cookies, you just can't shoot another CMDR.

But why play in open if one escapes every player interaction by logging? I don't get it.

That's not combat logging to be fair.. Perhaps they were checking out signal sources for rescue salvage?

That's not to say that combat logging isn't a massive problem with ED though because it is.

That's why I put combat in brackets. It is more combat prevention logging, which doesn't make it better imho.

And yes, several of them dropped out of supercruise, for whatever reasons which is totally ok (as I wrote).

But vanishing without wake seems not to be checking out signal sources. I find that annoying.
Why do this if there are alternatives to open?

No wake? They were probably logging out then.. a bit lame if it was because a combat ship was near. Unfortunately a lot of non-combat orientated players play the game this way, instead of learning how to evade (thereby getting gud).

This is one reason I think that mixing CG's together in single systems is a bad idea.. when a trade CG and bounty hunting CG are both in the same system it causes most of the non-combat players to leave open. They see FDL's or FAS's and they think ganker, even though they might be protecting them. Fdev should stop putting different CG's together unless it's a war CG.

I have no problem with players leaving open. I played nearly 2000 hours mostly in Mobius.

I question the click on "open" if players log out and go to another mode as soon as there is another CMDR in the instance.
Why not play in Mobius exclusively then? Why this "I fly in open as long as no one is near me" then?

I click on open and am prepared for it. If I get attacked, I fight or flee. If I explode, I explode.
If I'm not in the mood, I click on "Private Group --> Mobius"

What I do is if I get attacked more then once by the same player in the same situation/instance and I can escape,
I switch modes if I want to reach my goal (I'm not the content for anyone else then me...)

I simply don't see the point in clicking "open" if a CMDR is not into interaction or unwilling to shoot/getting shot at.
That's what the other modes are for - and no judgement from me which mode :S

But why play in open if one escapes every player interaction by logging? I don't get it.

This is why I advocate for players to choose a mode that reflects their playstyle.

If they have a problem with being interdicted and attacked by others, they need to consider that Open is not the mode for them, and that one of the Private Groups or Solo may offer a more rewarding experience for how they like to play.

If everyone took the responsibility to be honest in their choice of mode and the intentions of their gameplay, then CLogging wouldn't be a problem.

I'm afraid the FDL has come to epitomise a certain player type in a negative way. Blame those short sighted types who came before. As a past victim of those types (in a PG no less) I can sympathise with those that look once and logout, legitimately.

This is why I bought my FDL and sometimes fly around in busy systems. To watch the cowards flee before me in terror. Their hollow squares wink away into oblivion and I don't even equip an interdictor. Ahhh the power.

It's both awesome and annoying, isn't it? :D

Yeah, you're right.

Real Elite pilots stay logged in 24/7, even during server down time or game crashes.

If you sign out of the game, even to care for children, or go to work, you need to git gud.

Mate least you are'nt being robbed of kills.

I'm often in a viper for PvP, so I get all the salty bois who usually get killed by the gank squads pull me out.

More than a few log when they realise that thier poop build condas are getting wrecked. Then they'll send you abuse afterwards claiming you're cheating. It's pathetic.
