reading this thread few days later, im starting to think that star citizen is not only game that has cult on forums
If a thread OP's content is trash, it invites trash-talk. Enjoy some self-reflection and become a better poster, I'm sure you can find it in you to create a wholesome & interesting thread for discussion :)

Personally I dont really care if ED succeeds or fails...it used to bother me greatly, but such naive thoughts vanished a long time ago. Nowadays, Im doing exactly what I said I would do and Im waiting till Q4...how good that update will be will decide whether this game fails or succeeds...in my mind. I dont really care if others look beyond Q4...cos Im not looking past that. Either it delivers or it doesnt...there is no third option.

Not overly concerned between now and then...I found other distractions to amuse meself with while I wait, so Im not spamming this forum with salty tears. Its a pointless excercise anyway what with the rash of white knights and fanbois who jump on anyone who doesnt agree with every word that comes outta that hole under their nose. Like hotel california, its become more of an amusing distraction than an actual discussion and quite frankly, I just stopped caring about who is right and wrong because neither side has any influence on how I personally percieve this game.

Thats another way of saying that I have my beliefs about this game and frontier as a whole, and theres not one single argument from anyone who is gonna change those beliefs...so whats the point in debating them at all? If frontier genuinely care, then its time they proved it...if they are as gifted as the fanbois say then its time to prove it. Words are meaningless at this point...even from the Braben himself cos its like listening to a very talented used car salesman...one can never be certain whats truth and whats sugar coated to make it appear less of an outright lie.

And thats another way of saying that I simply do not trust frontier, not like I used to. Only actual results can redeem them in my eyes...and this thread just like any other thread on this topic is nothing but an echo chamber of fanbois v everyone else while frontier silently munch popcorn in the background.

The time fer words and empty promises is over...either frontier shows off some of this alleged brilliance or they as done as a game gets imo. I wont post a salty goodbye thread either...not my style...Ill just extend the break Im currently on from ¨waiting fer a miracle¨ to ¨miracles only happen in religion¨ Man up and move on...tick tock time is running out ^

Man I wish I was as conclusive as you, against better judgement there's still that tiny little trust in Fdev that they'll eventually fix this game.
My trust has been dwindling though with each update that was released.
I still visit the forums to convince myself that ED is a good game still but when I fire up my Xbox I don't even think about starting the game anymore.

I'm waiting for Q4 too and if it doesn't bring the fun back in playing then I'm done too.
If others still have fun, good for you but I play games for my own pleasure not someone else's.
Fdev realy needs to step up and act, as you said words won't cut it, in the beginning there has been talked about of how they envisioned ED was gonna be, great stuff, now four years later only a fraction of that stuff has actually been realised.
Words, not enough for me anymore either, Q4 will tell,.......or not.

Of course there will be some who might want to say I'm wrong, well I don't care, it's up to Fdev to prove me wrong or I won't play their game anymore simple as that.
If Fdev doesn't care about me not playing their game anymore, fine, there are plenty of other fun games.

No, nobody believes the game is perfect and we already told you a few hundred times. Everyone of your so called fanboys criticises the game if you just let them. Problem is they are all busy replying to the nonsense some people are posting.

See? Cmdr Eagleboy, known as the second biggest fanboy just confirmed that criticism of the game is indeed possible. Can we move on now?

LOL Err. Nope, looks like the poster has since clarified and essentially backtracked saying they are not actually criticizing the game. Read the post.

??? How is it relevant for Cmdr Eagleboy to be admitting anything about the capabilities of a third party he has nothing to do with, other than using one of its products???

Bizarre line of argument.

Wait - that's pretty much what all the fanbase does here: admit capabilities about the third party (they have) nothing to do with. And of course it's wrong. That one reason why someone earns the label of 'white knighting'. Someone critiques game; white knight defends game design/code/development/staff then critiques poster.

Anyway, the future is what it is. FDev have this game in maintenance mode applying only few resources as they continue to focus on new titles, new franchises. This debate will go on and those ignoring the facts simply look foolish and lack credibility.

Cult indeed. It the "vertical slicers" who have been here since late beta and launch always insisting that everything is fine. Back then the cult explained the reason for the game being shallow and empty was because us beta testers were only getting a thin slice of the game to test. And that the developer was holding back the majority of the game and gameplay to release in later testing. So they admitted the game was shallow and empty but of course there was an excuse for it. We still basically have that thin slice. A cult indeed.

Let me be brutally honest here - what on Earth suggested that people who like this game want others to play this game despite liking it or not?

You like it, you play it. You don't, then don't! Seriously, you don't confirmation from us or community as hole. You don't need to back your opinion with "part of community not liking it". This ain't high school popularity contest.

I enjoy playing ED now more than ever. But I am not gonna force anyone liking it. Jeez.

@verminstar, you at least have a knack with writing interesting posts. Never had you pegged as one side or the other. Just a gnarly dude. Kudos.

He came from a game that was literally dead and in maintenance mode.

Even he has to admit Elite doesn't even come close to fitting that category.

nah daily volume is over 100000 its not a low volume share...

Discussing share prices and volume?

We've hit peak doom thread now, nothing more to say.

Yet here you are...

Premise: "Star Citizen is a cult, and the Elite Dangerous forums laugh at my whining so it must be a cult too"

Characteristics associated with a cult:

  • ❌ The group displays excessively zealous and unquestioning commitment to its leader and (whether he is alive or dead) regards his belief system, ideology, and practices as the Truth, as law - Hahaha, wut?
  • ❌ Questioning, doubt, and dissent are discouraged or even punished - Elite forums allow negative feedback threads of almost any topic (bar duplicates)
  • ❌ Mind-altering practices (such as meditation, chanting, speaking in tongues, denunciation sessions, and debilitating work routines) are used in excess and serve to suppress doubts about the group and its leader(s) - Hahaha, wut?
  • ❌ The leadership dictates, sometimes in great detail, how members should think, act, and feel (for example, members must get permission to date, change jobs, marry; or leaders prescribe what types of clothes to wear, where to live, whether or not to have children, how to discipline children, and so forth) - Hahaha, wut?
  • ❌ The group is elitist, claiming a special, exalted status for itself, its leader(s) and members (for example, the leader is considered the Messiah, a special being, an avatar; or the group and/or the leader is on a special mission to save humanity) - Elite isn't saving PC gaming, nor the best space game ever.
  • ❌ The group has a polarized us-versus-them mentality, which may cause conflict with the wider society - Hahaha, nope ("Grrr, Haters/Refunders/Goons!")
  • ❌ The leader is not accountable to any authorities (unlike, for example, teachers, military commanders or ministers, priests, monks, and rabbis of mainstream religious denominations) - Frontier has shareholders, a Board of Directors, and public financials
  • ❌ The group teaches or implies that its supposedly exalted ends justify whatever means it deems necessary. This may result in members' participating in behaviors or activities they would have considered reprehensible or unethical before joining the group (for example, lying to family or friends, or collecting money for bogus charities) - AFAIK CMDRs haven't lied to family members to hide $000s in spending, for "the good of the project" because crowdfunding/development.
  • ❌ The leadership induces feelings of shame and/or guilt in order to influence and/or control members. Often, this is done through peer pressure and subtle forms of persuasion - Hahaha, wut?
  • ❌ Subservience to the leader or group requires members to cut ties with family and friends, and radically alter the personal goals and activities they had before joining the group - Hahaha, wut?
  • ❌ The group is preoccupied with bringing in new members - Elite wants new & returning players like with most games, but it isn't a pre-occupation aka promoted referral programs/competitions
  • ❌ The group is preoccupied with making money - Elite doesn't have a grey-market for gold/item trading
  • ❌ Members are expected to devote inordinate amounts of time to the group and group-related activities - Hahaha, wut?
  • ❌ Members are encouraged or required to live and/or socialize only with other group members - Hahaha, wut?
  • ❌ The most loyal members (the true believers) feel there can be no life outside the context of the group. They believe there is no other way to be, and often fear reprisals to themselves or others if they leave (or even consider leaving) the group - CMDRs regularly discuss family, friends, playing other games (Elite isn't "the best space game ever"), hobbies, etc
Not bad, Elite satisfies 0 out of 15 characteristics of a cult [haha]

Finally a genuine doom thread with steam stats.

Edit: It should be added to every thread like this that the stats on steam dont take into account PS4/Xbox one and non steam users.

And what's the deal with PS4/Xbox/Non steam users? What'd encourage them more to play the game compared to PC users?

Sorry OP - still haven't had time to read - still too busy playing - and almost ran out of fuel!

Gosh this game is fun ;)

You sure have time to post you are playing huh?

What?

Non steam users/ps4/xbox are not counted in the graph simply because they are not required to use steam to play Elite.

I know, the question is, what's special about them? Why do you think they'd behave much differently compared to other platforms?

Good question but ultimately pointless because steam charts don't show a decline in active players over the last 3 years.

Still, even concurrent player numbers seem to be largely unaffected by the phenomenon you described in the 2017 thread you made.

Why do I think such? Because they are rather stable over the course of the day and just as active player numbers, they are affected by updates.
