Community Event / Creation ***Attention Explorers*** GNOSIS Jumps planned THROUGH a permit Lock !

[OOC] It seems there's an almost complete lack of expectation that Frontier might have permit locked away sections of the galaxy specifically for the introduction of some newsworthy future content. New types of POIs? The introduction of some new alien life (perhaps sentient or not)? Something else?

That seems passing strange to me. I mean, I get the attachment to the lore this game's been built from. But it's hard to imagine a content developer constraining themselves too rigidly to a past vision (or lack thereof), just because a player or two might have once visited a distant world (and not found or seen anything remarkable) a few years ago, earlier in this game's life.

I look at the fact that many people running about, tagging planets, do their "exploring" by jumping into and honking a system, barely pausing long enough to do some superficial surface scans (often with even that minimal effort adjudicated by whether any given body is profitable or close enough to bother with), and then moving on. I would hazard to say that many if not most explorers do very little actual flying around the planets they discover (even small or interesting ones), searching out and cataloging POIs.

I've been one of those surface-skimmer explorers, and I actually HOPE I've been missing a lot.

If I were a content developer, I think I would view that as leaving LOTS of room, even within that kind or previous "discovery," for great swaths of NEW discoveries to be inserted ...especially as new capabilities and tools are introduced to deepen the exploration aspect of this game.

I also think that, in general, and especially when it comes to those at work, and even more so when it comes to content creators, people don't architect things without purpose or vision guiding them. So Occam's Razor, to me, indicates that *something* interesting was probably envisioned when the decision was made to lock away significant segments of the galaxy.

Or I'm just a wishful thinker. ;-)

Don't expect too much.
Here's the outfit options on the Gnosis.

There is some basic equipment at The Gnosis, but if you want something really good, you'd better buy it beforehand and transfer modules through stored modules menu. And keep in mind, that with every jump towards the rift this procedure becomes more and more expensive.

Thanks for your answers and for the link. I'll study that. See you onboard CMDRs

Wish id known about this earlier. Almost to beagle, and I dont have time to do what I want to and get back.
Is anyone planning to get left behind on purpose? It might be kinda cool to be the only one in the whole area after the Gnosis leaves.

Assuming the Gnosis makes it out...

It’s an odd arrangement - an unlocked area surrounded by locked areas, necessitating access via megaship. I’m not saying it’s definitely a trap, but there’s certainly something very fishy about the whole setup.

Which is why I’m going! ;)

I definitely see the potential for a community goal here.
Gnosis gets trapped and we all have to band together to save everyone trapped in the sector. That would be pretty cool

If there is "something" special Canonn is looking for in this sector, they should let us explore it thoroughly. I mean Gnosis droping volounteer Cmdrs there and coming back to pick them a few months later.

That would be awesomely cool !!! Christmas before christmas. Perhaps a way to introduce chapter 4 and the new explo-mechanics.
Ready the tinfoil hats gentlemen, time to brainstorm before the final jump :)

Frack, I just realized that I leave for vacation the morning of Sept. 6th, the day the Gnosis jumps in!!!! And I won't be home for almost a week after that!

Looks like I'm not going to get a tag on anything in there after all. :(

Ah well, I still want to explore for myself in there and visit as many systems as possible. I'm still looking forward to this!

I can't be the only one who noticed that this event almost exactly coincides with Beyond Chapter 3.

Wouldn't it be funny if one of the two permit locked zones enveloping Cone Sector were to suddenly unlock on 28th August? :p

Or indeed if something of value is placed inside Cone Sector when the patch drops?

Was wondering what would happen if a group of players stayed behind formed a group and got themselves a fleet carrier!

Not happy about this.

I still feel that the entire thing about the Gnosis is a bad idea, because it shows a lot of favoritism and is unfair towards the other explorers like myself.

Yeah timing is perfect, wasn't planned btw! One of our members suggested it back in February
Who knows with the patch dropping fd could easily add something, that would be really cool!
They've picked up on it and its looking pretty popular amongst the wider community, so fingers crossed :D

Only slightly ... Canonn representatives get to propose the new flight plan to FD but otherwise, anyone can get on the Gnosis before it jumps.

They're not explorers. They're collectors.

Why is it unfair? What are you losing because of this? How is your experience of the game adversely affected?

An interesting thing is that people always talk about Atmos and space legs as the next thing in game, but I always thought a more logical development would be the continuation of the thargoid story, aka thargoid homeworlds, battle stations, ground bases etc..

So here we go venturing in an unknown area of space.. :) ok I know there's probably nothing unusual in there.. but still it's fun to speculate.. makes for some excitement in game.

The conjecture and the wouldn't-it-be-cool'ing are the most fun parts of being a Commander involved in something like this. It doesn't really matter whether or not there's some "Breaking News" type discovery made or not -- like all good Sci-Fi stories, it's the germ of the "What if's" (some of which we may generate along the way) that so often drive groups of movers and shakers to bring about new ideas, new change.
