General / Off-Topic I am sick of this community

You, yeah... you.

Uninformed complaints, entitlement and strange flat earth arguments is the new world order. NMS is cherished as some sort of mesiah just because they finally started to deliver some the game they promised, marketed and charged for 2-3 years ago.

If you dont hate the game you are a "white night" apparently.

Whats wrong with you? Seriously.

Its perfectly fine to think that ED is missing things or have bugs. But its not fine to use your own wishfull thinking as some sort of fact or argument.
And its sickening to breathe the same air as those who think they are owed something from a released game with at least 10 free updates to its name, just because they payed 40 euros in 2013 thinking that spacelegs or any other pet wishfull feature was mandatory in release 1.0.

Know what you mean, and ED is a wonderful game with so much more effectively going right for it, with some areas for improvement often blown out of proportion on the forum. However, I'd suggest not minding the salt so much. Most are good natured intelligent & educated folk on this forum who may have just lost their way and joined the naysayer's parade. Many are big sci-fi fans where we're among hard sci-fi enthusiasts and sim friends here. A lot of the bashing is trolling for fun imo and joining the naysaying bandwagon must be a fun ride at the poor developers of FD's expense. It's always asking ED which is already Ly's ahead of the competition for ideals of perfection and "balance" which can never be attained, and doesn't even exist in real life socioeconomic systems. I think everyone subconsciously knows ED and its community is still going strong. All that energy and internal arguing in DD shows the ED franchise fights for survival year after year and will probably do so for many years to come along with gradual improvements which will eventually arrive with sustained patience. NMS, pfft. Its shortcut designed magic superficial curtain of space fantasy can only entertain for so long. ED will always remain the true champ of the spacesim genre bringing sci-fi to life. o7

"Nay Sayers" "White Knights", opinion this, opinion that. These labels are banded about by those who fail to understand the difference between subjectivism and objectivism, between opinion and fact, benefit and outcome, (even at times it seems) cause and effect.

At which point did parts of this community start believing it exists in the vacuum of space, and that it's not very much a part of a pluralistic society?

There's your sickness right there.

No...there.

The other bits are fine.

But.....but... I have a gas can, lighter, smores and everything. Just a little bit of forum fire. Hate is good for the soul, gets the blood flowing.

Elite Dangerous: built on false promises and is a game constructed on half baked ideas introduced over 4 years of bug filled updates.... And Braben has smelly feet.

No Man's sky: Sean Murray is a lying sack of crap that deserves every bit of hate and criticism.
And Hello games finally realized the better actually fix their game if they want to release NMS2.
Can't just scrap and move on like EA can.

This isn't my fault.... My netflix sub is up.

*runs away*

:) Wish I could rep this more than once.

Reality checks abound for many that seem to think there are only two kinds of people on the forums... rather than the spectrum it truly is.

In my life experience I've come to realize perfection is not only unattainable- but it's a fool's errand. We can improve many things, but must always keep expectations realistic rather than allowing it to consume us with disappointment. Some seem to think that's "settling for mediocrity", but that's because they're always seeing it as a closed loop... instead of continuous improvement over time.

And also "perfection", even if it was achievable, would be a momentary state. It the act of constantly trying to get something as close to perfection as you can that makes it.. uhm… perfect..
Where was I going with this, again?

I dont care about steam.

Nor do I past the fact its a convenient games platform, but if you think this place is full of whinners you must be new to gaming, this place is tame to some places Ive passed through over the 20+ years of online gaming, over all this game has a rather good communtiy, and besides this is jsut a internet forum.

I think you were trying to put the cat out.

Perfect only exists in movies, or fleeting moment in time, this is why we remember them in all their subjective glory forever. Fit-for-purpose is the aim.

However, fit-for-purpose has a scale to it based on alignment to the purpose utilised to unify the project. If you manage to get it fit-for-purpose you've just done your job, if the consensus is that it's good too...then you've done well. If it's an overwhelming consensus, then you've hit the nail on the head and really done well.

The purpose needs communicating.

FD need to do well come christmas.

Then maybe the forum culture will be more fit-for-purpose.

The problem with a pluralistic culture is that they usually only function when the dominant political coalitions are well understood by the whole board. No one knows what ED is supposed to be right now, so that becomes a stumbling block and unity dissolves.

That's a leadership problem.

I hope the deal between the Design Team and the Community Managers is a better one for next year.

Haha thanks fer that saw the above post and snorted tea...its not as much fun as what usually goes up the nostrils, but that was a genuine laugh out loud moment...I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment ^

I always get a kick out of the "I want a refund" posts.
If $50 from 5 years ago is still something that keeps you up at night, you have more important matters you need to be focusing on other than video games.

On the other hand, self-declared ‘informed/educated people’ take lots of people that they don’t agree with, bunch them up together in a convenient little box and apply words to them that belittle anything they say.
I can’t wait for the world where all the do good SJW’s have kids and watch as their kids rebel
