I own several accounts, through steam, oculus and Frontier. What would happen if DB told Frontier to “pull the plug?”
Could they just switch off the servers and say “that’s all folks?”
Just curious
Technically speaking, yes.
Legally speaking, probably.
Community wise, it would be a big blow to their reputation.
Perhaps a less damaging option would be to put the game into maintainance mode, no new content, only bug fixes for critical issues. People can continue playing. Possibly release an offline or standalone server patch.
Its a bit of a silly question though as FD recently reaffirmed their commitment to conitinued support and development. Although companies in the past have done such and then within weeks turned off servers... so perhaps not so silly.
Still, i don't see any reason at this point to think FD will do this. They are in a strong position financially and the CEO has a strong connection with the game.
Oh, and of course, if they did switch off the servers, there would be a lot of impotent forum rage, threats of legal action, demands, threats, etc, all of which would be, as the saying goes, urinating into the wind.
Personally i'd be very dissapointed, but then shrug my shoulders and get on with gaming. There are many games out there. For years i've been leery of games that requires online connections, it would probably just reinforce that opinion and make me less likely to buy online games.
I saw Braben docking on the Gnosis this morning, just saying.
Braben doesn't dock with the Gnosis. The Gnosis docks with him!
