Video game burnout....

Wait, are you suggesting that something in real life could be more interesting than games? What kind of paganry is this? :O

Apart of a bit of DJing at a young age, my passion for cars, I used to travel; hiked on active volcanoes, experienced the Siberian winter, did diving (sometimes with sharks 20-40m) deep, went skiing... all this doesn't mix well with family. Now I have a family, so from all the hobbies I've got, I have a Crown Vic (probably the last interesting car I'll ever own, I use it as daily driver) and gaming.
Gaming on the other hand will last through my life, somehow I always manage to find time for it and it never gets old - but games I really like are on short supply.

I hear ya. Good games really are rare. I guess they always were (I don't remember ever playing more than three at the same time), but times have changed and I think we are consuming them at much higher rate, I guess.

As for hobbies, yeah. I fly RC Choppers which is fun, but really expensive. Other than that, I'm kind of tied up at home/work (they are one and the same for me). Hiking around interested places and having and interesting car were always my dreams, but I never got to that. So gaming it is, for me.
Like I said earlier, I do have periods of disinterest when comes to gaming, but they rarely last longer than a week. And I usually play either Elite or Anno even during those. :D
And yes, I've also played games for more than 30 years, now, so I don't think I'm really planning to stop.

20 years here, since I was three years old. :)

I literally don't want to play anything. Unfortunately, I don't have anything else to do at the moment, so I am just sitting here....

Anyone else?

Yes, about 8 months ago, so I started a Masters.

Since then yes, I play the occasional game here and there, but on the whole, I am channelling my time into something more productive.

My rational - by the time I retire, when I will have all the time in the world to play everything under the sun, how much better will game be then compared to now?

Invest in yourself today, reap the reward tomorrow. :)

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.

That's awesome! Good luck, Liqua! What are you studying?

Im very selective of what games I play. I'm currently only playing like 3 right now and ED is one of them. The other 2 are FSX and Fallout 4. I'm kind of tired of games at the moment. I think it because work has been busy and I'm a single dad, so once everything goes quiet on the Western Front. I just want to chill and a watch a show. Currently binge watching Supernatural. Already ran through all Trek shows for the 3rd time and Agents of Shield.

How to be a good member of a forum community. :D

I highly recommend to others to download the Marvel guide and watch TV/Films in correct chronological order. Love Agents of Shield - wife and I have watched it perhaps 3 times all way through ourselves, and intend to do 4th viewing after Xmas. Plenty of good shows out there - just doing Killjoys atm.

Wow, awesome replies everyone! I'll hand out reps and replies tomorrow :)

Considering checking out the new Tom Clancy series on Amazon, although just heading off 'over the horizon' for three weeks for work and am tempted to put a ship on the Gnosis just to see what I log into the last week of september.

The ending of that series was so disappoint. He Suleiman, a master strategists, ten steps ahead of the US and yet he doesn't think the US would disable cell phone towers around a hospital holding the president

There are plot holes galore, what was that 9 million dollars for.
Why take on another dictator army when you clearly not intending to fight a conventional ground war.
What were they putting into those olive jar, not it weren't the caesium or Ebola.

I get like that too.

I usually try watching a movie or TV. Failing that, go for a walk in to town and promptly remember why all my hobbies are indoors, away from people. Lol

That's normal. At the end of the day video games are pretty much all re-skins of the same basic activity, burn out happens. I havent actually even played any Elite since 3.3 came out. I followed the streams and thought, cool new fighters and missiles...but the desire to jump in just isn't there like it was. You just have to jump to the next hobby outside videogames.

I rotate between fly fishing and tying flies, and painting miniatures or just various drawing projects. Or if I'm tired, some beer and watching garbage on Netflix, Amazon or Hulu is fine too.

I just picked up the D&D Starter Set. It's something I haven't played since I was a kid in 1981. I asked several of my 40+ friends if they'd be interested and got a resounding YES. We all have nostalgic memories of playing in our youth, before all this screen time killed the theater of our minds. I've been pre-occupied with preparing miniatures and maps for the first session and watching lots of youtube tips and play sessions for inspiration.

I'd have loved to have the judges comments translated..they were in tears of emotion as much as I was...completely and utterly beautiful. I'd never heard of the singer, Dorota Osińska...but I certainly have now [yesnod]

They didn't say anything particularly interesting, but I could translate it later for you. As to that you never heard of the singer it's normal - the show is about randoms being given a chance to perform live on stage or something.

I felt a bit like this too recently so took up the "couch to 5K" challenge, (look up the app). Running my first 5K park run on Saturday, (8am Elite time).

About 4 months ago I started commuting to work by bicycle - 7.5 miles each way, 30 minutes to start the day, 30 minutes to end the day. Has really changed by interest level in some of my more idle activities.

Has gotten to the point now where I take the longer routes, and the ones with more small hills. If I take the direct route I just scream to work without getting a solid workout.
