News Chapter Four - Exploration Reveal

They've said that they'll be adding more things to see/discover, so it's definitely an exploration update.

There is nothing in the OP that suggests that this “exploration update” actually does any of that — it's simply and update of the UI, which is a very different thing than an update to the exploration itself. We'll see the same things as ever, and it remains as meaningless as ever — it's just a difference in method for delivering that meaninglessness.

They did say on the stream that there would be new things to find.

It's been said elsewhere, during the FD expo, and a few times since.
I can't find direct posts, but thankfully cocalarix is keeping up with things: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/397639-Elite-Dangerous-2018-Roadmap-Regularly-Updated :)

It's a scanning/spawning mechanic. Exploration is an endeavour to reveal the unknown and make it known.

If I scan a system and that data is persistent and available to others, that's exploration.

If I scan a system and it spawns items for me and me alone, regardless of how I do that - that's a transient minigame.
ok, that's how you see exploration, and that's fine.
I don't see it that way, for me it's an endeavour to reveal the unknown and make it known to me.
I really don't care if my discoveries are made known to anyone or not. That's not why I explore.

But I'm in to archaeology. I want old things to find.

One thing that can be done for planetary survey , with out eyeballing is to extend and enhance the landing radar, taking 3d images on high altitude to find interesting things scrashed ships , valleys old river beds , ruins or structures bases etc .

another thing would be of great help the longtitude and latitude raster so you know where the hell you are on a planet and fly to coordinates directly instead of making a wild gues and fly for hrs to a place you already vissited on a previous occation . like vulcanos or crashed ships.

What good is feedback?

We've been asking for surface bookmarks for how long? Anyone see that mentioned?

This is going to be a total mess of things no one has asked for and removal/substitution for a new mini-game time waster full of bugs.

Anyone know how this is going to affect the Nav Panel? Passenger Missions, Missions to a Station or Outpost?

This just looks like another bomb throw into the town square so FD can watch everyone scramble.

I guess they think this generates "interest."

remember how long it took for ordinary bookmarks and naming of ships? it will take another 4 years to get those features

And how does one land on a *system*?

System =/= body. Two paragraphs. Very separate. I said boring *system*.

Define boring.... Unremarkable and full of repetition. Like this conversation.

You claim some systems are boring, & I countered by saying that I have yet to find a system that was boring, because I haven't found planets within them that are boring.

This thread just keeps going and going...

No more mini-games.
No one likes them.
Go back to the original ideas of David Braben and Micheal brooks as discussed in the dev dairys and development of elite Anno 2014.

Here is a tip-don't mistake your confirmation bias for the actual view of the majority. I recall the anti timed transfer people swore black & blue rhat the majority wanted instant transfers. Turns out they were badly wrong. I suspect you are most likely wrong too.

You say "mini-game", I say "exploration mechanic in which I am an active participant, rather than a passive spectator"

It took 18 months to get bookmarks, would have been less time had 2.1 not been delayed. It took a little over 2 years to get ship naming......so what is your actual point?

What is this fanciful notion based on?

His point is that it takes ages to get even the most obvious and simple QoL improvements — just imagine how long it takes to get more complex ones, or to undo mistakes. Seems pretty obvious.

I'd suggest a simple incremental upgrade - not a complete rewrite

Keep current Galaxy and System maps in tact.

Merge ADS/DSS into a single scanner that should probably require functionality purchases in Outfitting and be capable of enhancements through engineering. Make it a Core internal module!!! You could still have Basic/Intermediate/Advanced for those who don't want the ADS full system reveal with a honk.

Maintain current capabilities. Honk and travel to do DSS as before if you wish (only get data as you do in current DSS scan), or Open DSS view to reveal new mechanic, detailed signal analyses, launch probes, map POI's, etc.

No one loses anything

Everyone gets more

A win/win

Play it your way

What someone else does is not my/your concern.

Peace be upon you

Oh - and add surface bookmarks

Too simple, too easy - never happen - NOT the FD way

"No, no - we are adding something new. It's right in our design manual that when we do that it's required that we PO at least half of the player base."

I always find it funny how people use game terms for things they don't like and colorful terms for things they do like.

Some of are looking for an immersive experience with verisimilitude, and others dismiss that referring to mini games and game loops.

it can be helpful referring to game terms all the time, but it can also be distracting. I doubt landing the lunar module on the moon was referred to by mission control as a mini game.

"Houston, we are pressing X to land now..."

what majority the one that is not constantly here on the forums, claiming the features are great, or the majority that actualy play the game , only read the news letters and point out what is wrong with the game design.

As you have that many messages and elite status you must play the game very much o wait you couldnt have as you are here all the time posting more messages than actualy playing the game.
It also seems a lot of frontier employees are posting here claiming its the most wonderfull thing in the world . a tip read up on the life stream messages and you will find not many peopleare exited by these features.

Dont claim the majority is you as many discord channels and commanders are highly disapointed by what is shown and how the mechanic works .
I recommend that you stop claiming stuff about het community and be more critical on what frontier actualy promisses and delivers.

And dont throw claims i am active explorer and i know what iam talking about attitude.as so are many commanders here .
Game design and feature design since december of 2015 is so poor in quality boring lazy shortcuts its starting to look pathetic. december 2015 an entire plan was layed out on how features would work and no supprise they failed to deliver on those features. it was also the time the LEP where on sale . last year frontier expo exactly the same thing features and content where hyped . and no suprise 2 out of the 3 are delayed explorartion should be a significant improvement and if this is part of that so called significant improvement where they had 4 years to plan for and a year to create its rather pathetic.

So stop defending Frontier and stop attacking the ones that actualy give a damn about the game.

A shame SEPP didnt won the Dangerouse games as they where the only one that actualy wanted to force frontier to stop the pew pew and ad more explorer content.

If you cant see what you wrote , you already answered your own question your comments are no longer valid. And just to ad Horizons should have lasted 12 months not 2 years.

Are you enjoying protecting frontier from all critical remarks and truths?

Becous it sounds like your a frontier employee that cant handle the truth
