Frontier's 2018 annual report has been released.
On page 50: "At 31 May 2018 the expected remaining life of the franchise is considered to be three and a half years."
This is in regards to lifetime pass revenue and is the same deadline included in last year's report.
Maybe it simply means they'll have released enough expansions by then to satisfy obligations to lifetime pass holders. Or maybe that's the limit to their commitment to developing the game.
It would be nice to have some official clarification. Barring that, I can't assume development will continue past 2021. For all the talk of a ten year plan, this is the only official timeline that's available.

Nothing to see here, folks. To recap the conclusion that was reached in the several pages that follow: the lifespan of the game, ending in December 2021, was merely for accounting purposes. All of the lifetime expansion pass revenue will be spent, or accounted for, at that time. It has nothing to do with whether development will actually cease or continue.
It may be the only official lifespan we have on public record, but it's not a meaningful one. At least not as far as divining the future of this game is concerned.
