PvP Ganks getting more and more out of hand...

How does this work? I'm assuming they are getting you between the star and the station when you drop into the CG system. Does one ship interdict you and the wingmates follow the lead wolf's beacon? If so, how does the second wing end up in the instance?

Related, are they hanging out in the shipping lanes, or just outside the station in SC?

There are a few ways to accomplish this.
One has already been answered by Bigmaec; they drop on the low-wakes.
If they are a bit spread out, the best option is for one wing to drop in and then disband. Those four (or however many is needed) then get invited to wings of three who are in SC, to give them a beacon to drop on.

If they are flying in close formation, dropping in low-wakes is the fastest. If they are spread out more, wing-anchoring is the best option, but that has a cooldown timer on it (Leaving Wing).

Because lets face it, ganking isn't challenging.

That depends on who you are trying to 'gank'.

Escaping a gank is certainly one of the best challenges the game provides for.

Concur.

Well, naturally it is challenging for the one being ganked, sure, because the ganker has all advantages and then some, and that can be rather fun, I've been attempted ganked some times in Elite and always manage to escape and you can clearly see the frustration for the gankers when they curse and toss insults at you because you escaped and ruined 'their' fun.

The challenge is to see how many you can drive off first. Often it's zero, but sometimes, when they've really misjudged, it can be so many more...sometimes they even explode.

I like to think I provide an enjoyable challange to those who try to have their CMDRs down my vessels. Those that are acquainted with me know that my CMDR won't go down willingly, that I know what I'm doing, and that I'm not going to willfully disconnect or log off to avoid them.

I've never had that last part happen.

Occasionally I do run into players that throw a fit, hurling insults and/or accusations any time something doesn't go as expected.

Most people, even most 'gankers' or 'griefers' are not like this, but some people are.

We've all seen it and probably been subject to it many times... Ganks are a well known tactic and happen almost at every CG.

We had the ganks done by a few in a wing, then a full wing, and now, the most recent thing (at least, recent for what I've seen...) ganks by multiple wings...

I'm not asking for advices how to "git gud" or not get killed as not HWing against 1, 2 or even 3 wings is guaranteed death (rebuy is no issue, I got plenty, but dying in 30sec is annoying after a few times...)

My question is rather: why?

I mean, okay, in some cases, you need to gang up to get thru those overstacked shields on cutters and the like, it's far easier to kill a target when going in as a team than solo, but why go against a wing of 3 lesser equipped/grind-built ships with 6-10 FDLs, cutters, Corvettes etc?

3 Prismatic FDLs and a Cutter are already a guaranteed win in most gank situations... so why the overkill? And what kind of feeling does it give to the CMDRs in those gank "squads"?

So that Rodent can have fun too. :D I enjoy getting ganked and the more the merrier for all. Area denial is a complex strategy without escalation dominance but that's what makes it fun. So I welcome all the gankers at all CGs or anywhere else where i can make a pleasant and relaxed acquaintance for enjoyment of all. :) Well, mine, primarily mine i think, but i sincerely do hope that others enjoy spacial dynamics as much as i do.

they still need to remove PvP combat from the starter systems.. and everyone wonders why open is the least popular option.

Already had my share of Ganks from a faction I used to be in due to joining another faction which no longer exists....

Again, as the op says, with wings of 4 just to take down a single ship.

"oh you need to get out then" yea okay, I'll try and high wake whilst 4+ ships attack as I'm ducking and weaving the best I can...

Elite in open is totally safe. Just fly a 6-booster prismatic FDL, problem solved :p

Isn't ganking the end game in Elite? After you've done everything else, that's the only thing left to do. And with all the new combat ships and new weapons in every update, they have to be used somehow for something. *shrugs*

I haven't done any griefing or ganking myself, but since there's not much more to do in the game, I'm starting to consider to be one.

Ganking is too easy. The real end game is killing gankers. I'm not there yet.

Ganking is too easy.

If we are using the true definition of ganking, then I agree. I went to the CG in the mood for a little one-on-one PvP. While I wasn't expecting to win against a well-engineered griefer, I felt I could at least give him a worthy fight. Problem is, as soon as I engaged with one, his buddies jump into the instance, and there's no way I'm going to be able to fight, let alone win against, a wing of highly engineered and PP enhanced ships. Death came way too quickly.

There was no fun, no challenge, not just for me but the gankers as well. It is no coincidence they fly with the [LOL] tag, because that's all they get out of this kind of gameplay, the lulz.

ps - I'm not "angry" about the gank (I went looking for a fight), rather I'm disappointed in the lost opportunity for some fun gameplay.
