I do. Really felt like I needed to say it.

I've seen a lot of strange phenomena during my relatively short time on Earth.

Ghosts & spirits, future-seeing, and of course my own connection to... Well, I've shared it with some but it's still a bit misunderstood.

I just want to be straightforward. I believe in a lot of energies beyond the perception of most humans. I hardly understand it myself. But every few weeks, I see or feel something that I can only described as magickal in nature.

It's actually got to the point that I've actively got in contact with pagan bodies to try and understand what I'm sensing. They've really helped. I feel a lot more spiritually awake as a result.

It's been part of my efforts to improve myself. Opening up to positive energy from the universe is definitely a big reason I've managed to make serious progress in my weight loss.

Now I'm not saying I've asked a witch to cast a spell, (though it has been offered!), no. I'm just trying to get in touch with the energies in the world, become part of the circle of life.

It's not without its challenges. My anger is still a serious problem and I'm easily, too easily enraged.

We live in a modern world and despite my spiritual beliefs, I also support the sciences, and it's a science I'm turning to, to work past my anger. I'm hopeful this time, as I intend on being totally honest about my feelings.

I've written this post tonight as I've experienced a number of future-seeing events in the last 24 hours. I know it's real because over the last day I've seen many sights that had previously appeared in dreams. Crazy sounding I know, and I don't expect anyone to believe me, but... Ultimately this is about what I see. I cannot give you my eye.

I have a lot to tell the therapist in the coming days.

Would have said No, but the behaviour of the smoke alarm this morning has convinced me that we are surrounded by demons.

LOL.

But seriously, I fully expect disbelief.

I'm correct in thinking you are a doctor? I've had this reaction before from doctors: It's part of the reason I'm seen as, to use the clinical term, "a bit nuts", by the medical profession.

Like I say I've got a very interesting discussion due with the professionals over the coming days. This thread is entirely sincere, I really do believe & follow this stuff.

It's become a very important aspect of my life, and I'm trying to find a way to forgive my old demons through it all.

I want to believe but the simple fact is thousands of practitioners all over the world just can't reliable demonstrate anything real. Not one frame of believable evidence from dozens of Ghost Hunters with thousands of hours of footage and recordings.

Really, if someone was actually psychic why would they need to charge you $5 a minute to make any cash?

It would be awesome to actually discover there's some new unrevealed force in the universe. Scientists break their butts trying to do that all the time. If there was one, they'd be all over it.

I can accept that there are phenomena out there we cannot explain easily (or, in some instances, at all).

A good book to read would be Robert L. Forwards' book "Indistinguishable from Magic". Each odd number chapter introduces a scientific idea, while each even numbered chapter then uses the science fact introduced previously as a science fiction story. The book appears to go with the premise that magic could be something scientific that we so not (yet, if ever) understand.

Another book you might want to read is Larry Nivens' book "The Magic Goes Away". He goes with the idea that mana is a useable resource (like oil, for example), while spells are a 'recipe' to use the mana.

I've seen a ghost.

I was staying in student digs at the time. It was the morning after a heavy night's drinking. I opened my bleary eyes and saw the curtains were billowing in slow motion. There was an old woman standing beside them, not transparent, solid. She looked at me and then completely silently started moving towards me. In an instant she was gone and the curtains were back to normal.

The thing is, even though I've seen a ghost I still don't believe in them.

The mind has a way of playing tricks on people. You must know yourself about the numerous optical illusions which show how much we take our visual system for granted. With the amount of jiggery pokery our brains use to get the pictures from the back of our eyeballs into our mind's eye I'm amazed we don't get false images of people all the time.

Over the centuries the curious people who want to know things have realised the limitations of the way we perceive things, the way make assumptions and guesses about the world around us. They developed a method of thinking which tries to keep the human bias out of their facts, the scientific method.

What science has done is that it's unveiled the real mysteries of the universe, stuff which are real wonders. My favourite mystery is Young's Slits. Light is obviously a particle but it behaves like a wave when it passes through the slits. But what is the medium for this lightwave? Water waves use the sea as its medium. It exists as differences in the height of the water. Soundwaves use the air as it medium. It exists as differences in air pressure. Light can travel through a vacuum. What the hell is its medium?

There are plenty of actual real mysteries. There's no need to make any up.

I believe in the paranormal phenomena but I do not try to understand or provoke because I do not want to be afraid :)

However, sometimes I come to the Frontier forums and I find things really not normal :p

Many years ago when I was the Student Union President of my college I told my friends in the office about a really vivid dream I had the night before. I had dreamt that two girls came into the office from the smoke room, one had burnt their hand and then took them to the janitors office for first aid. Then after we had lunch we were all back in the office when there was a knock at the door, and two girls appeared, one had spilt tea on her hand and scolded it, at that point everyone just looked at me with the oddest look. So obviously I took her to the janitors office for first aid. Coincidence or fate, no idea but it was memorable.

My girlfriend saw a ghost. After describing it to her parents, they dug up some old photos of the house (very old house). The ghost she described was in the picture. Lol

And I've had weird sorts of premonitions, only minutes in advance.

And I'm convinced my cat can teleport.

I was in junior high school. Back in the 80s around the time I was playing the original Elite.

One night I had a dream that I, a right-handed person, could write backwards with my left hand.

The next morning I began practicing it while taking notes in school. It turns out that I was really good at it. Now comes the strange part ...

In my last period of the day the teacher was trying to prove a point about how difficult it was for the brain to perform a task opposite from what it had been trained to do. To prove his point he asked for a volunteer to come up to the blackboard and write their name backwards.

Guess who volunteered and guess which teacher ended up utterly flabbergasted? :)

Was it pure coincidence that my dream had prepared me for that moment or was it something ... more?

Magic is just science we don't understand yet.

Ghosts? Yep I ran a pub which had it's own ghost called Lavinia who was a serving maid murdered by a highwayman in the 17th century. She would like to cause mischief on a regular basis.

I blame Lavinia!

(A genius misdirection from TJ there I'm sure you'll agree)

Actually, a really interesting thread.

I'm a big science nerd (from Education and from general interest).

Whilst I understand and semi-agree with the scientific notion of magic is just something you don't understand or haven't scientifically proven or disproven, I also ascribe to the fact that one should keep an open mind on anything and everything. You should take all evidence and weigh up the facts.

I try to be as open minded as possible, and don't discount weird stuff, because I don't truely understand it.

I too, have experienced all sorts of weird (unexplainable by science or conventional understanding) stuff in life. Maybe such things will never be explained, who knows. As for "ghosts" - I've never really "seen" one with my own eyes (sober or not) so I can't comment on it.

I do know, that, on youtube for example, there are a whole lot of misinformation videos from people that are so far from impartial that they are stuck in their own ways (e.g. flatearthers for one), so it's really a hard topic to research.

Edit: Not flatearth research, I meant paranormal stuff in general.

I was writing a rather lengthy post, but the my net connection dropped and I lost the essay.

There was some... Interesting detail. I've not lost net connection for months, not counting power cuts during storms.

I don't know... That essay was pretty damn open.

Maybe I'm not supposed to share what I was going to.

I often use terms such as "For the love of the Maker". I do believe in an intelligent force behind the universe, but I don't follow mainstream faiths in any way. Actually, what I believe in is theory I crafted & named myself. I use the term "Maker" to refer to creation because it is quite simply a neutral term. I have turned to paganism, however, as the people there are quite supportive of me finding my own way through the world. I believe I've said before that about half my friends IRL, maybe more, identify as pagan, and I would say my deep belief in spirits put me under that banner too.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
The universe is grand enough without having to resort to mythos or magic to express its beauty. That said, it's fun to 'believe' in such. Humans have a desire to feel connected to something greater. Spirituality, in whatever form, is essential. Whether you get that from religion, 'magic', or an appreciation of the universe as described by pure science doesn't matter.

Where people can get into trouble is in assuming that their own brand of spirituality is the only one that counts, or that the universe must conform to your own beliefs regardless of evidence to the contrary.

I believe almost everything is out of my control. I don't choose these "visions"; they just happen.

I also respect all beliefs, including mainstream religions. It's personal choice and I think there's multiple universes anyway.
