My Mum, in May, got a rescue cat (all the way from Portugal!). He is a really nice little person, with loveable traits. For example, if he is sitting in your lap he likes to bump heads. His "meow" isn't loud, but his purr is very penetrating. He likes to keep his feet firmly planted on the ground (try and pick him up and he hangs onto the carpet; manage to pick him up and he will firmly plant his feet into you to provide him with a stable and secure launching platform), and he likes to go for the walk when Mum takes the dog out! The cat and the dog do get on quite well, but there are occasions when they wind each other up.

ah good to see so many cat lovers! :) Cats are best (although my wife is Guinea pig barmy).

Every forum deserves a good Cat thread.

Here is Daft Cat in the garden earlier this year when we had the Snow.

At every Tesco store I've worked in, we've had a ginger tom cat just decide to move in.

Even in the news, you see ginger tom cats at Tescos elsewhere.

I love cats.

Anyone who complains should just be banned from Tesco. Cats are far cleaner than most of the people I see around here. :p

To be honest, rats are far cleaner than most of the people I see around here too ...

Rats are very clean creatures. No joke. They live in the dirty surroundings we create, but their physical hygiene is second to none. Just like cats they are always cleaning and grooming themselves.

Great picture. We had a cat, called Mickey, who loved to play in the snow, catch snowballs we threw at him and stuff like that.

No cats for us anymore - the kid is allergic to them. :)

I grew up with tons of 'em, though. They certainly do have personality, at least in a 'I don't really care about you at all' kind of way. heh heh.

I think I'm much more of a dog person these days.

If you have a girl, you shouldn't have cats, anyway, even if she's not allergic. I don't know about states, but on the old continent, toxoplasmosis is still a thing.

Have you tried a hairless cat ?

:)

Yeah, we have a girl. Her mother (who used to volunteer at an animal shelter) stopped working with the cats there when she was pregnant because of this concern. Otherwise we haven't really avoided cats because of this, but rather because of the allergy issue. Does it affect females more than males? That's news to me.

I half-jokingly suggested that to my kid, but she thinks they're ugly. lol.

Having cat lady for 13 years now - bitey, but proud queen, tiger even. Biting or making noises is part of the deal...that's our language. Would walk walls if walls would be into it. Jumps around on the roof - roof apartment - when feels like it.

Toxoplasmosis is really dangerous to women, mainly in their puberty. The worst case scenario is that she won't be able to ever have children. So yeah. It's quite a deal and the bottom line is that to be really safe, teenage girls simply shouldn't come into contact with cats.
It's become a bit of a superstition, here where I live, but the danger is real.

(and yes, hairless cats are stuff of nightmares. Get her a puppy. :D )

That stuff may be much more prevalent than we think.

As for the rest of the thread, my childhood orange tom lived though a super typhoon.
He would also go hiking with me, but seemed to act like it was just incidental.

I wouldn't see him for miles then he'd just be sitting on a rock ahead, looking at me like,

"Well hello?
Fancy seeing you all the way out here..."

Funny creatures.

Still beautiful years to come if she has the health.

Before my current cat, I had my Mitsou who lived 20 years and a few months

Our cat "Smudge" was a bit thick.... as a stalker she sucked.

EVERY time wifey and I walked to the pub, Smudge came too. She waited outside, or even sat with us outside the front of the pub on a warm day.

But..BUT.. we sometimes left by the back door and when we got home; it was always a toss of a coin to see if it was wife's or my turn to go back and get Smudge who was invariably still waiting outside the front of the pub. (18 hours once passed before we missed her.... and she was still sat there....waiting.... carried her home in my coat that time... a bit damp and bedraggled she was!)
