faction idea....

some people are gonna be mad about this, but please answer cool headed
what if instead of choosing your faction, "the faction chooses you" like when you first start the game in the beginning of the final product, you are 'born" into a faction so to say....and you have to be loyal to it.....
and if you want to "defect" there will be a timed bounty on you, or something on the lines of that.

yea, no?
pros and cons please....

i mean i guess no one really plays in teams here(yet), or at least i haven't seen that so far.
so i figure it don't matter anyways.
this is not a proposal people!! it's a pros and cons question lol.

I had proposed a while back to have (in solo mode only out of fairness) a starting point that is totally random with things like, system, ship, money, legal status all a chance. The general consensus was that while that is a neat idea it was sort of deemed as iconoclast in that it wrecks the spirit of free will (or choice) that the game is based on. What you propose is something along those lines and as such will probably not gain much momentum. The only thing we can hope for is that there will be multiple starting points and that those will get you closer to the faction of your choice rather than having to work uphill to gain that status.

Random starting factions are impossible, because some of the backer rewards already include that the player can chose to start as an independent trader, an imperial bounty hunter, an pirate from an anarchy, etc...

Since we paid for that, FD cannot undo this without getting major flak.

OK, it might be possible to do something like this for non-backers, but in my opinion it is a bad idea.

Isn't it a bit unnecessary?
What would the game gain from this?

so no, right? lol

What if you don't want to belong to one of the games factions?

so that's a con.

and i'm really just trying to see if there was pros or cons(like this one lol)
not proposing i should make that clear in the post lol

From your post history, you seem to want an open world game that chooses your path for you. Sounds a bit contradictory to me.

This^

I keep reading that people want to see a storyline or narrative.
Having these things doesn't make a game great, deep, or add replay value, it does the opposite, it leads you to an end at which point you stop playing.

Yeah, but such restrictions are the least interesting parts of all of those games. I prefer to make my own choices and make my own path.

Its a bit of both. You chose the faction and the faction chose you. Its based on your behaviour and your actions. Attack a faction, please another rival faction. Please all factions and you can can be all factions.

Do a bit work for one faction, switch to another faction if they will have you, then switch back, if they will have you.
