∞ probes?

But mah' immersion!!!

I'd like unlimited as well... BUT that being said I think maybe making them synthesized on the fly using materials would be a better idea.

Make it use extremely common materials so that we REQUIRE an SRV periodically to go down pick up iron/nickel to refill the "Probe tank" so to speak.

Make it 1000 probes per 25 Iron, 25 Nickel and 10 zinc or something like that.
 
I don't get it. Do people imagine an infinite number of probes as like see of probes, or whole ship made of probes? Can't that be just 3 probes that will be made again when used? Thing is we don't know how big they are, whats inside and what they are made of. We can make oxygen from metal for god sake and fuel from stars, is that hard to imagine making a probe in 3D printer? :D
 
It really way the only way they could go without causing non horizons players and compromising ship builds..

However, they did miss off a screenshot of the new probe mechanic

The problem with that is that materials (and of course planetary landings) require Horizons. Technically this is a core game feature and needs to be accessible without the DLC (which I suspect is the real reason behind unlimited probes).
 
That's the only thing I'm not really happy with... make them easy to farm, make 1000 of probes out of a couple of iron and nickel... Infinite is a disturbing "number" to me... There's not even need to mention they are infinite in the scanner ui...

I could even accept to farm them with a "probes scoop", around gas giants maybe? Infinite no... please no........

Anyway what's the efficiency bonus? I didn't catch what bonus we're getting from it...

No thanks. No srv or mining equipment = no way for explorers to replenish probes. And even with mining/prospecting equipment it breaks up an explorer's gameplay. We guests knocked the limited probes idea back during our visit, and I'm very happy FDev have chosen infinite instead.

What they essentially are ... are slugs they are shooting at the planet to have it detonate on the surface and kick up energy that will reflect back on the sensors. Different images can capture what sorts of materials are spewed up into the sky.

So essentially they are mini supercruise engines with a bomb on them. The ship records all the telemetry and reflected data.

So really they are dumb probes and can be small and compact.

You actually travel without an SRV? Thats insane. SRV's in the future should have a multitude of tools to help you survive out in the deep. They just haven't added them yet.

Exploring the galaxy SHOULD NOT BE "jump win, jump win, jump win". It should be like "lost in space" where you are always patching your hull and finding ways to survive and thrive.

We 17 guests were providing feedback on the vast majority of players in the communities we're involved with, including edge case scenarios. Those that explore without srv's or mining equipment cannot create probes, or those without Horizons (So can't synthesize or prospect; therefore first-mapped becomes Pay2Win).

Gameplay > immersion/grind/pay2win.

Infinite probes is the perfect solution.

I do hope we have to fabricate them ourselves though.
I mean... that's why we gather mats and stuff, isn't it?

Perhaps they could add that later when every ED fan owns Horizons.
I cannot even imagine an ED fan not wanting to own Horizons.

I wouldn't mind if I as a Horizons owner had to synthesize probes and non-Horizons owners do not.

After first reveal limit of probes felt only thing that made me think...and yes, it is a bit hard to hand wave, but it is still possible.

Kind of a similar idea to the fuel scoop - ish.

Thats not much of an argument. Just because someone doesnt have something, doesnt mean you should be able to do it anyway. With that logic it is unfair I need scanners too. The real question is what gear should be 'minimally required' for exploration, and just two scanners seems... flimsy for proper exploration. No trader has just one or two cargo racks. No combat ship has just one or two combat-related modules. No mining ship has just one or two required modules. I think 'four' is a very decent 'absolute minimum for medium-high end gameplay'. Refinery/lasers/collector/prospector/specialty weapons. Armor/weapons/SCB/chaff/heatsink/shield. Endless cargoracks. :p ADS/DSS/Fuel scoop/SRV.

Explorers wouldnt be unduly punished.

Can't we just have an option to have them unlimited or not so everyone is happy instead of arguing???

Here there are simply different opinions there's no wrong or right.

Introduce an option and everyone is happy...

I see the technical issue of non horizons players... that was asked during the previous livestream and Adam was clearly unprepared to answer... so I see the technical issue here... as I said... add an Option which is automatically ON (unlimited) and when you don't like it (like me) you just switch the toggle to OFF...
 
Yeah, can't say I wasn't particularly impressed at first with them being infinite and the gamey feeling efficiency rates but as Sleutelbos said earlier, just the fact that it rewards skill and gives people options I still love it! I'll just come up with some made up reason in my head to explain it all away. :)
