Calling all voice attack experts...

good evening commanders...

Is this possible..?

1. I open the text comms

2. I say... "Say hello"

3. Voice attack then types a fixed message in the text box and sends it to the commander

:S :S :S

I'm not an expert and at work at the moment.. but wondering if you tried creating a new command for "say hello" using the key presses to spell out what you want?

I've had a quick look under "Other" in the commands and the short answer is...sadly No.

Long answer, very very unlikely as there seems no facility to do what you ask. But since you've raised the question, you have pricked my interest! :)

Hey Spiggs..how's it going?

So I had a good long think about this and I have a workaround...

I say... "Say hi" with the text panel already opened and flashing ( this is done on a key bind on my joystick )

voice attack then types... Hi how are you commander? And hits enter...

The result is a perfectly typed message to a fellow commander with having to physically type anything!

This works perfectly!
Sorry didn't read this until id actually thought of it myself! Doh! :p
+1 rep for the clever clogs!

Hi there SlackR.

Sorry, you're right about getting VA to type in pre-detremined phrases, no problems there!

I though you wanted the ability for VA to open the chat window and then for it to recognise what you were saying as you were saying it and turn that into Comms chat? Now that would be something.

My mistake.

i'm probably missing the point but why not open the comm, select voice chat and then say hello?

Because after hello you would need to follow that up with more chat...
Just a quick way of saying hi to those flying by...
:)

That's easy to do, if the menus are consistent. I haven't tried a quick comm for voice, is it a pretty basic menu (ie, choose text or voice)?

The thing I've wanted to do is have VA open a text chat, and from there stop listening and have Windows dictation type what I say in the box since VA isn't great at dictation. But that's one of those things where you'd need a test subject for a while to try it all out.

But for standard hail greetings and common responses, VA can handle that text fine.

What I would Like to Do.....

Open Voice Coms....

Does Voice-Attack allow me to do this?

Does it hear my own voice and send it through to other players using the VA/Game software?

I'm not really interested in using my voice with VA to communicate through texts chat in game....

I can't find videos that will show me how.

Probably need to make sure your voice prompts don't get confused with other commands otherwise it'll make for some interesting moves in space or worse in a station. I've had voice attack deploy landing gear a few times randomly because it thought I said retracts down when I was out in the middle of space. If it picks the wrong command and launches a string of 20 plus keys that could well be several boost buttons.

Why is it the text comms panel can't be invoked with a VA command if it has a key bound to it :S Tried this and no go - at first I thought it was something to do with TrackIR, but even with that off I still can't get the panel to open using VA. Once it is opened, the text-paste thing works fine.

Hmmm. Works for me. Have the comms panel and text comms mapped to keys '[' and ']' respectively as well as VA commands. Using TrackIR (4) as well. :S

This is how I do it.

Select a new command and give it a meaningful and easy to remember name, for example "Type hello."

Then hit the RECORDER button and type the message you want to appear. Depending on your speed as a typist, you may want to to delete all the pauses from the recording after you are done, but this is very quick process. (note: if you hit enter at the end of your text, during recording, your message will be sent when you say "Type hello." if there is no "enter" your message will be sent when you press the transmit button (what ever that is for your setup).

Before I twigged this, I was laboriously entering every letter individually :p

EDIT: I too, can open Coms and Quick Coms using VA as Lobstris said.

There were some discussions on the VA forum about using VA as a speech-to-text converter for text chat, but there are issues from a coding viewpoint.

As an alternative I raised a forum post request to the developer to use pre-made texts as a trade-off, that 'cut/paste' texts into a text box, rather than use the long-winded method of recording macros to write out each letter/word. Again, even with my idea there are some issues with even doing this from a coding viewpoint.

It's something that the developer may consider sometime in the near future.

You can do this easily with the recorder function. see my post

Wish I'd seen this post when it was 1st made CMDR Slackr!

I've been spamming comms for weeks now without ever touching the keyboard!
