Phanton internals

No access to the latest beta till tomorrow. Can anyone confirm the Phantom has less cargo cap then it's sister ship? Struggling to find a use for it, will get one anyway, just don't want it to sit in storage like my Challenger.

Was under the impression it had no SLF, but slightly more freight capacity. Plan was to use it as MED pad hauler, keep the MKII as my smuggler/combat ship.

T-10 & Conda are my main explorer ships, prefer to take a SLF and loads of kit on long voyages.

Cheers

Optional internals are:
Phantom: 6, 3x5; 3x3; 2
MkII: 2x6; 2x5; 4; 2x3; 2

Ah that's a shame, what are you planning on using yours for? …

Not entirely sure. I hoped for a smuggling/blockade runner capable of doing the 180t missions. But the cargo capacity of the Phantom is too low.

I'll try out how cold I can get the Phantom. Maybe it is a good smuggler without doing missions. It is fast and fun to fly.

I’m in Vegas without a PC.. keen to know max range is equal to ASPX would be good to know when stats are up. Or shipyard updated

Well, just bought one, threw a bunch of D-rated bits at it, remote-engineered the FSD (no XFX), light-weighted the life-support and sensors then stuck a 5H GFSB on it and got 67Ly jump-range.

Gonna take a bit of effort to get near the 80Ly of my AspX - and then a reason to fly this instead of my AspX - but it certainly seems to fit a spot between the AspX and the Annie nicely.

Now, if there was a reason to go exploring in a ship with cargo racks and collectors, this thing would really be hot poop.

My Phantom explorer feels exactly the as my Mk-II explorer except it has about an extra 5ly jump range. I could pick either one for exploration, but still prefer the ASPx due to better supercuise agility.

I know it loses 1 large hard point (drastically reducing its dps capability compared to all other medium ships), loses the SLF, and has smaller internals... but does it also have a smaller fuel tank?

If so that is extremly sad. The fuel tank would have been very useful for bigger jumps and made it slightly better for exploration. Just can't see why I would choose the phantom over the Krait MkII. You could have the Krait Mk II and just not use all the space inside, getting a decent jump range for exploration

Losing one hardpoint still gives it more dps capability than an FAS, which is one of the best medium combat ships in the game. It also has the same size fuel tank as the mk2. It's a great explorer, it's arguably the definitive explorer now, since the annie is a pig to fly in explorer fit.

Good point about the fuel tank, can anyone confirm if it retains the 32 tonne tank from the MKII?

Edit - Cheers Aashenfox. Not too sure about it being the definitive explorer, but each to their own!

Krait Phantom is, for all intents and purposes, a direct upgrade to the Asp Explorer. Great jump range, good speed, good optionals for exploration.

What it is not is a combat ship. Use it for either exploration or general long distance mission running. Actually, will probably make for the best tourist passenger ship since it combines great jump range with the kind of optional internals to git a class 6 passenger cabin, class 5 fuel scoop ... AND a class 5 FSD Booster. This actually beats out the Asp as it would only be able to equip a class 3 FSD Booster at most.

It would make a good alternative to those explorers (such as myself) to prefer to use the ship itself for canyon racing and covering surface ground quickly rather than relying on an SLF. I do like to take a small cargo rack as well (though I have needed to use it up to this point)

Lemme know where you're may be going man, I'm bored bubble wise too, but reticent to leave alone...

I feel the Mamba will be the ship for that, even in combat fit it'll do 600, the nose should follow the front pretty well if it's based ont he FDL

If you judge by the most common metric, jump range, and the factor in all the 'nice to haves', it definitely gets the best overall score. However, if jump range isn't critical (and it won't be unless you're planning on going to the outer edge of the galaxy), then sure, there are subjectively better ships, the Orca for example, in my opinion. It has adequate jump range and plenty of space now, plus it's faaaast and beautiful, and flies nicely.
