Phantom test flight

Just took the ship for a quick spin (apologies for the video, recorded in VR)

Not quite sure why some over on the beta forum think the Phantom handles baldy, vert thrusters are a little heavy, roll pitch and lateral are good, yaw is yaw, need to fly in the sweet spot, or roll and pitch into the turns like any sane cmdr. Like her big sister, she is a a joy to fly, with the right amount of heaviness on the controls.

Sound team are genius as always, listen to how it groans under heavy g's at 2:05s mark :)

Yeah, my first impressions are really good as well. Very hard to overheat whilst scooping, 591 boost with 5A dirty driven thrusters, good enough SC manuverablity and does feel much more agile than the MK2 and all the amendities you need for exploration (54+ jump range though sadly I don't have access to the GFSD in beta)

I think I will use this for smuggling. Anyway, well done devs, it feels unique, they always do a great job with the flight model.

But.. but it's not the best at something!
But.. it kills the insert ship!

Take your pick. [big grin]

Nah it's a cool one. Choices are nice.

Gotta say though, I like me some smuggling, but that can also be easily done with a Cutter or Annie. Which is kind of a shame. Because I won't use this one as a smuggler for now. (Well, for smuggling missions perhaps. It's just.. I like the non-mission driven smuggling. You know? Finding the best places to sell your smuggling wares and such)

Its 2nd best at something without being anywhere close to worst at anything. That's a win.

Krait phantom has that lighter freer feel than the Mk II. Perhaps more of a new edition of the classic old Kraits.
I'd noticed the laterals are very nice /w the lighter KraitP when sliding low over a terrain base after a boost while perpendicular to the ground.

Yes, very well done by FD where they can continue to make new unique feeling ships. It seems like a lot of work went into them (KraitP & Mamba) this year. No other spacesim game has this level of selection of personal space vehicle experiences.

Yep I've spent two hours with the Phantom now and it flies great to me. Not as nimble as the Asp X but a tad better than the Krait MkII so it's still fun to fly.

Fracking fine exploration ship this Phantom is. :D

Nice flying. Normal agility on the ship is great. Its supercruise agility could use a small boost. Although honestly, it might actually be perfectly fine and just feel sluggish when coming from the ships agility in regular space.

Yeah loving the Phantom as well. How do you record in VR? I haven’t managed.

The only way I've discovered is to set your desktop resolution higher and let it record that. It won't record the VR, but it'll record what you're doing, including headtracking. I believe you need OBS to actually record VR.

Phantom's flight characteristics look fine to me. She definitely looks more nimble than the Krait Mk II, as well as faster. Faster than the AspX too, even with a 5A.

May have to reinstall OBS then. And yeah Phantom is somewhat nimbler than the Krait II.

I was very impressed with my beta play. The Phantom is a high mark for design, visuals, and sound. And I felt it was really fun to fly. I want to get out and do some planetary salvage in my next session or two.

Was that all/most in FA-Off? I'm mighty impressed!!

Hi Henry, yeah it's FA-OFF, I test FA-ON handling for a bit - On at 57s, switch it off again at 1m 55s. Handling in both modes is very nice. @Ozram, recording VR using OBS, still a bit rubbish tho, wish there was a way to capture VR properly.
