Killing Scouts without the Guardians Grind

.
It's not without reason that i stated that i have not timed it but had the impression to be similar.
.
On the size, i used class 3 for either. But while class 3 repair limpets state that you can have two of them active, i always got error messages when i tried to attach a second one. My mistake, if i made any, is not on the limpet controller size there. So any other guesses, what it could've been, if you actually manage to attach more than one to your ship?
.

yes, you can two active... after all its primary role is not to repair yourself but others.
but to any ship, only ONE limpet in total can attach - and that can be either a hatch-breaker, repair, decon, research or refuel limpet.

the pitty is, that FDEV makes the limpets self destruct instead of waiting in line...

While I am still unwilling to throw overboard my entire loadout just to be able to fight Thargoids, I might be interest in dealing with some scouts in the Thargoid incursion systems; the least I could do is use military grade armor with heavy duty, which would give me ~1800 absolute hull in my Corvette. Would that be sufficient?

Also, going by the numbers Coriolis gives me, it seems regular hull reinforcement with heavy duty gives you more net HP (3300) vs caustic and shield bypassing damage than guardian (3100) or meta alloy reinforcement (2700), at least when you only have two of them (i.e. in the two military slots).

For scout hunting I find the small medium ships work best for scouts as a large ship is a lot easier for them to hit, a Corvette will work but damage repair costs will be substantial.

So far my favourites are the FAS with 4 AX MC turrets (lazy I know ;)) or a Crusader with an AX fighter, the small Guardian goose cannons are very effective but it can be hard to hit the little bu**ers with fixed weapons so a mix of AX turrets and high damage Guardian weapons works rather well.

If you're getting huge repair bills when facing scouts in any ship you are going about it wrong. Especially big ships. The two things I find people end up doing is letting their shields drop and hulltanking for whatever reason or burning off Caustic damage by overheating. Yeah, thats going to make your repair bill skyrocket in any ship from the module damage. Just use a decon limpet. And your shields really should not be dropping from scouts in any if the the Big combat ships, they have enough Shields and firepower to clear out a threat 6 full of scouts with minimal damqge to the hull. That can be repair very easily with a decon limpet .

How about a Mamba for burning off the caustic goo? ;)

Heats viable in smaller ships, ammo and reloads about 70k. They are also better for bringing fixed weps to bear.

That's my approach. The firepower is also good: four large AX turrets.

Depends on how long you intend to be fighting scouts. I tend to be at it for a while so thats a no no for me. Random malfunctions are not pleasant!

And the fixed weapons are more or less irrelavant because Turrented AX Multicannons out DPS the other AX weapon besides Fixed AX Multicannons and Shard cannons when it comes to scouts. Especially with the damage falloff some of those weapons have.

With scouts I do two or three sorties per mission from the Aegis ships, usually repair and reload between systems with four(ish) missions taken. Payouts start about half a mil to a couple of mil plus mats for about 70k in damage and ammo.

With plasma chargers its four or five shots per kill (two on a good day).

Maybe the solution to defending the bubble and saving humanity. Lot's and lot's of scout kills, for everyone with an FDL!

I know, right :) Nothing beats a good old shield-tank FDL when you're about to massacre some UFOs (to call it "hunting" would be a mistake). This very thing made me a combat Elite - from 70% Deadly - in two days of relaxing play and about 600 Scouts (I don't remember the actual number). If the number of kills required to prevent an incursion is in high hundreds or low thousands, several wings of these can put thargoids to halt in no time.

Im just in it cause I like to kill things. As long as I dont go broke Im a happy camper. I just fly and supercruise and kill anything I see. Usually repairs arent above 50k regardless of what Im flying. I think. Its been a while.

As much fun as I find the Plasma Charger its probably the worst of the AX weapons for doing... Anything. In the time it takes to just charge them and release the trigger my Turrets have already killed what Im aiming at. And that Damage falloff is just bad. But then if I get close enough to where that doesnt matter I just wanted want to use the shard cannons cauae they do more damage and dont have a charge up time.

I still use them every now and then but they aren't all that great. But damn if they arent the coolest things.

Where do I buy this?

if i want to have fun, i go out in a small/medium ship, fit small and medium AX missiles and train my evasion and aiming skills.
if i do it for the money or combat rank,
i go out with my beam-laser only corvette. fitting the smallest slots with the guardian HRPs for a few caustic resist points, an class3 decon limpet and class7 repair limpet -> thats enough to fix me up and i only have to pay for a few internal repairs later.

if i want to do it with my friends in Multicrew - i take out the Type10 with 4 large AX Multicannons and at least one AX Taipan... at least until i have unlocked the guardian fighter.

Stigbob kill it.

Kill it with fire.

Its horrifying!

That's a UFO interceptor from the TV series UFO by Gerry Anderson (who made thunderbirds). It was great, but too dark for TV at the time which is why they made space 1999.

Funky opening credits :

Mrs Stigbob is sick of hearing it when I'm blasting scouts.

Current build at the moment, having a lot of success with threat 3s and 4s. The big issue is the caustic damage as unfortunately with the FAS you'd just be sacrificing too much to fit decon limpet and cargo rack. Gave in and tried to get the mats for the guardian module, completely forgetting how painful it was.

The threat 8s with that interceptor though just aren't doable with this build and struggled with even the threat 5s (just bought a rebuy a few minutes ago)

EDIT: Not sure if it's already been answered on this thread but has any one been able to deduce if the corrosive shell special is any more effective against scouts?

I use a FAS for scout hunting with 4 x AX MC turrets and plenty of armour, the threat 5 with 8 scouts (several different types) can be challenging the best approach being to boost through the pack and pick them off one at a time especially the new versions.

The Crusader works well too the small beam turrets help targeting the slippery little blighters!
