The Reclamation of Ross 128! Righting wrongs darker than death or night...

It's important to have the higher ground, too :D

So you basically got guddest? :D

I seriously love this thread. Much rep was given. But I still hate the BGS.

The BGS is always the second enemy in any conflict! lol. Thanks Maec! :D

The victory came at a great cost though...I got my cargo Krait Mk2 shredded by a sneaky cmdr in the CZ [knocked out]

That CMDR was shown the error of his ways, worry not. ;)

It's all in the op, pretty much, but super short version for posterity...

AEDC conducted an admittedly brilliant crusade from their home system to Ross 128 (the 'why' is still up for some debate, but probably 'for the giggles'), starting some two years ago. Whereupon they occupied it with nary a thought for the greater good. They then resisted the Federation, but for some reason not the Anarchists, as if to underline their disdain for the wider galaxy (really? Warren Prison Mine? In the hands of Anarchists...?). Federation was more concerned with petty squabbles and Thargoids in other areas of the galaxy and left the Anarchists to do their thing (hey, at least it wasn't AEDC, right?). GARD couldn't stand for that, so rather than make a fuss about it, we simply took care of it ourselves. Boom. Job done. :)

What's really great about this, is that I swore (quite ineffectually at the time), that I would put this right. At least you can say I'm a man of my word...

Just a little info you may not be aware of.

Yes, we noticed the possible retreat, and did some work there to prevent it. But otherwise you were working on Ross 128 completely unopposed. AEDC has been under significant botting attack for several months now, and our focus is entirely on that. The Lave war was paused while we are working through that with Frontier Support. We resisted indeed the loss of Ross 128 several months ago, which included Federation CMDRs, as well as a bunch of independent PMFs aligned in an anti-AEDC coalition, which we lost due to overwhelming support for the other side. When Feds, ex-Imps, various independents, including criminal elements, and lone murderhobos decide to take a system, they can. We did not resist the anarchists, nor did we resist you (we didn't even know you were doing anything until you posted this thread)

So, congrats on taking Ross 128 unopposed. We were monitoring bots instead.

You didn't oppose us because you couldn't, otherwise you would have, but thanks anyway, the victory is no less sweet and Ross 128 is no less Red because of your opposition or lack thereof. Also, didn't you take it 15 or so months ago unopposed? Yes, that's right, yes you did. And you posted in the forum about it...and I swore I'd put it right, didn't I? And here we are today, aren't we? Anyway, let's not bicker, it's not personal, we are not Anti-AEDC.

P.S. We are not your enemy. Your actions however, have made you ours.
P.P.S of all of that, the only part I didn't know was the ceasefire in Lave, someone else told me that today. As you'll no doubt be pleased to learn, that conflict doesn't interest us. :) For what it's worth, good luck with those bots, that sucks balls.

I for one appreciate your editing efforts haha. Good job.

Strictly out of character here:
Good on you for taking it back. I did find it hard to believe it took this long for the federation to care about regaining control of that permit system, regardless of who did it (no sarcasm there). We are really currently unable to join the conflict but appreciate your efforts in terms of roleplay and trying to engage with other people in war and conflict.

Yes, it makes the galaxy interesting and yes that's really part of the reasoning that led us to take it in the first place. To make the game interesting.

Another part was to actively see if FDev would actively engage with player driven narrative if we took a Permit system, sure they didn't, but I still think it would have been great if the story reflected it. Kind of a bummer to see Galnet not care about this. It would make your victory now way more impressive.

Sure, the good old propagandism is getting a little old on me, but oh well these forums are like that, right? Heh.

Sorry for the late reply to the thread but I just wanted to say a big thank you to all GARD members and an even bigger thank you to those commanders from other groups who pitched in to help us achieve such a historic victory!

Also, thanks to the 'opposition' commanders who gave gracious replies in this thread. Hopefully we've brought a little more colour and interest to the ED universe for you (or just painted a big fat target on our backs 😁 )!

Thank you honestly for the kind words. Also strictly out of character, I have a great respect for AEDC, they were the first group I ever wanted to join. I thought I wanted to be Alliance, I've always loved fighting for the underdog, we Brits have that a lot. Then this happened. And as you can see back in the thread from yesteryear, I was mildly outraged. How much of that was an excuse to form a guild of my own, is hard to say. It was a time when I felt strong in the game for the first time. I had my engineering down pat, I knew my ship was ready and I was ready for the next level of play, which for me, is traditionally, hardcore heroic raiding, and leading those raids.

Ross 128 served as a great cause to get behind, and I knew I could galvanise people to the issue. It was perfect, Prison system? Alliance invasion? Anarchists? What a story! And I do love to write. I'm now proud to be a Federation member, defending Earth and humanity from everything from AEDC to griefers. I'm a real life paladin, I help old ladies cross the street, I never go through a door without looking behind me, I let people pull out in the street. Forming GARD was always my destiny, so thanks for being the catalyst, now we're going to grow immensely from this. After all, as a famous man once said (turning to the audience)...

I know GARD has been hugely entertained and eagerly awaits the next chapter.

When we meet on the battlefield, we will fight fairly and with respect. Do you have any particular burial practices we should follow? :D o7

Hey Ash, do we really have to let people pull out on the roads?? Damn! i will have to think over my membership.....(LOL)

I used to let people in front of me, but got tired of slow pokers in front of me doing 80 MPH. Hey folks, the gas pedal is the thin one on the right. ;)

<edit> I actually told a guy about the gas pedal when he pulled into a parking spot next to me after lollygagging on the road. </edit>

No, no, you don't. Cut 'em up all you want. Every army needs soldiers, I can't afford to be picky. ;) :D

I did actually run over Snuffler in the mailslot the other day didn't I? Or rather more accurately, I threw my chieftain under his krait's wheels, lol. OK I take it back...

Letting people out in the street is NOT a membership requirement! K, thanks! Just be cool, and we're all good. :D

Ahah, Good stuff. Just blow me up the best you can and leave no evidence behind ;)
You?

Erm...actually, you know, I've never really thought about it. Thanks for asking. If you should manage to kill me, and there is anything left, roll it up with some onionhead and feed it to a Thargoid. For science!

Not if they're driving a Porsche. ...or a vanilla meta-FDL. <yawn> ;-)

You can't go wrong with Camisade's "Rules of the Road,": Smaller yields to bigger, everybody yields to a rental!

Snufflers still playing?!?

Funny, I joined AEDC early on for the same reasons. They had an amazing out-of-game infrastructure that actually added to the gameplay.
But eventually my playtime waned, and I was booted for inactivity.(which is entirely understandable)
I rejoined at one point, played for a bit, went idle again, and booted.

I promised I wasn't going to join again until I was committed to playing again (which will be Q4).
Then I read this thread, and suddenly want to join GARD.
Your rollplay-fu is strong, well done. :)

It would be our honor to accommodate you as little as you'd like without consequence. :D o7.
