News Removal of 'UA Bombing'

This is one of the reasons I haven't played ED in such a long while. Since when was it okay for a developer to favour certain groups and players over others? Its been going on for years as far as I can see but removing game mechanics because Brabens favourites didn't like it is an extremely poor state of affairs. Of course FD will deny this and its quite possible they are blinded by their own bias.

Nevertheless its an odd, shortsighted, and unfair way to treat customers.

Unfair way to treat customers hm? Well, yeah, and just think of all those game-breaking Microtransactions this game got! Totally unfair to sell that merchandise and make one person look cooler then the other, and by doing so giving them a big advantage over the non-paying part of the community!

/sarcasm off

I'll ask again - is there anyone who was actually on the "wrong" end of UA bombing really happy this has changed?

And by the wrong end I mean repeatedly having stations from the factions they manage UA bombed rather than fail to notice that a station was shut before docking at some random spot.

I fly for Archon Delaine, we had several stations shut down in our space by UA bombing, that we all found very irritating. We all went out and got MA to sort it to have them shut down again. We kept fixing the issue. Now I can't speak on behalf of everyone in the krew but I am disappointed that FDev have removed this mechanic from the game. It was a tactical tool for bgs and PP and I for one will be sad to see it go. It was annoying sure but something that made the game interesting.

I honestly hoped they would have taken UA bombing a step further. I never got the whole magic alien bean only shuts down services, but nothing else. UA bombing should have increased station problems. Orbital spin. glitchy ATC with accidents. Station weapons firing for no reason at ships. With the final nail being station evacuation till it is repaired and becoming a dead station till fixed.

Well, that's one form of griefing terminated. now all we need is a proper C&P and the salt mines will dry up! ;)

Good work FDev!!

Well you were flying for Delaine, what else did you expect by serving the Pirate King? Galaxy full of hugs and kisses? :D :D... I ensure I butcher 30 of his boys a month to help sleep at night....and maybe to get some unique modules because it is the ONLY thing Powerplay is good for :D :D :D

oooh, will this start up a Elite Politics debate??? Just letting you all know if powerplay wasn't a mess, and I could support a power it'd probably be Edmond Mahon or Aisling Duval, because who doesn't want to fly through systems with her face plastered everywhere?! :D

No, I expected a dangerous galaxy and I got one. I was happy with the UA mechanics. We also love the conflict come destroy our guys, where you in Open attacking cmdrs or are NPCs more your speed?

My sincerest hope is that UA bombs can now be a/the cause of Thargoid Incursions. That could be more interesting the station shutdowns.

SO if a random person tells you this was a secret deal between FD and privileged groups, with absolutely nothing back that claim up, you just mindlessly believe that? You really think Braben wakes up, and checks his e-mail to make sure his favourite player faction is happy about every mechanic?

Tin-foil is for canonn only...

I've witnessed favourtism many times - much of it is hard coded in the game, never mind the times the game has been god modded. Its funny you should mention the player group Canonn. How many others have their own mega ship?

Dont go all whataboutism here. What evidence do you have that FD removed this mechanic (a removal that is widely applauded by the average ED gamer) not because it makes sense or because the average client wants it, but just because a small group of 'priviliged elitist upper-class' players are being favoured? Because honestly, it sounds like a pretty dumb explanation and so far it has been supported by nothing but some vague calimero-sentiment. When a company removes something widely disliked you dont need baseless conspiracy theories...

Best example is Grom. And immunity.

I have question: if stations can no longer be affected by thargoid sensors, will the thargoid shutdown pulse be ineffective also?
It could open a new kind of combat zone scenario where thargoids have to effectively fight the station and CMDRs brave enough to stand their ground!

My group was one of the first to do it, we did well over the 120 in open and it worked, Archon Delaine home station in Harma, was crippled for 2 or 3 weeks, this was back when POWERPLAY was a thing everyone did!
So it works what probably happened to you was that there where meat aloys being sold there also!

UA bombing was always an absurd unbelievable dynamic. Thargoid sensors are big, they are not something you could offload in quantity and not be noticed. Nor could they be stored in mass in a station without attracting the attention of station personnel. In any realistic scenario they would simply be confiscated by security and removed from the station. In a universe where the station kills you for loitering, are we really supposed to believe that station security would stand around and do nothing while a station was literally rendered inoperable? It is good that the UA bomb feature has been removed and replaced with a trade dynamic. It is far more believable. I understand the argument from people who want to negatively impact enemies or shut down certain CGs but other ways must be found. This was always a clumsy and poorly thought out and wholly unbelievable dynamic.

Where ever you stand on this issue, the decision has been made so there is no sense "crying over spilled milk". If enough players want a way to oppose CGs or directly attack another faction outside the current BGS limitations then those intentions need to be expressed to Fdev as feature requests.

Good news!

That one time - in 4 years - I wasn't able to by a fuel scope at Jameson Memorial was a bit of a disappointment, if I recall correctly...
Glad that day is over :)

Toxic waste isn't the answer either, for the same reason I noted above.

The same could be said about any black market goods, but the reality is that these goods disappear into criminal hands. A solution would be that illegal cargo can't be sold in a given star system if scanned by system security there, unless in another ship from another system. A solution to station effects as a result could be having them shut down for a week or w/e a mechanic calls for and initiate "auto-repair" in the form of a crackdown.
