Spare a thought for the Mac players...

Not sure if it's still the case but it used to report a lot of data back to Microsoft. Some could be switched off but some couldn't, raising privacy concerns. It also has its own ideas about when your PC will be rebooted to install an update. Overall, you have less control over it than you did with, say, Windows 7.

Surely the innate smug sense of superiority should be more than enough to comfort mac users?

Given Tim Cook's recent speech about being "moral gatekeepers", the company and it's products need discarding entirely.

To be frank I've never been bothered by the privacy issue. I have nothing to hide. All Microsoft will see from me is Internet spaceships.

I really don't care what they know about me, because there's not much to know.

Aye. The data thing was an issue. It was addressed a while back after the flak they received for it, there is a lot more control over what data you want to share and it's done during new account setup now so it's not hidden away like it was. You can turn off all personal data, which means the only data communicated is the typical telemetry stuff they use to make informed updates (like where to place the "Show extensions" checkbox. :p)

The update times can be set (and could be set from day one IIRC), but most people simply didn't bother to check the settings, or genuinely couldn't find them.
Granted it is something Microsoft should have provided at account creation, "when would you like to update?" or whatever; could have been done better.

I've used W10 since pre-release (compiling and testing our application to ensure it worked), and we upgraded all development machines to W10 shortly after release. Some teething issues as it was a brand new OS (perfectly normal), but they got ironed out quickly and we haven't had any issues, at least, insofar as our application is concerned. Hell, even our legacy apps run on it; and they were written in the late 90's. :p

When it comes to personal use, I upgraded from W8 to 10 during the free upgrade period at, or just after release, and only formatted recently after buying some new hardware for my rig a few weeks ago.. not a day of trouble. W10 is, for me, stable; pretty and it works.

Some people are concerned about it, but like you, I'm not phased. So I left my privacy settings on default.
I don't care if Steve from Redmond, Washington knows that Sebastien from South Africa likes to have internet arguments; watches anime, and plays too many video games. :p

Steve moved on to basketball, LOL. But I don't care if the mega corporations know that Old Duck (my real name) is a sexy lass from Australia who likes space games and wins every internet argument and thinks PS4 is great despite Frontier's inability to code shaders for it. In fact, my address is 111 Dolphin Ave, Jameson Town, AU. Y'all come visit anytime!

This feels like a trap...
