Elite on the cheap (flight control edition)

Seen a lot of threads for higher end flight sticks and throttle controls but what about a simpler setup for a casual and/or space strapped player?

What kind of flight stick do you recommend if you're going on the cheap and have not a whole lot of room to work with?

(sorry if this is a redundant thread I couldn't come up with a similar question using search only the higher end stuff)

The £30ish T-Flight Hotas X is the best budget buy.

Or you may already have a gamepad that will work if you have an xbox or ps3 controller in the house.

Best Buy?! Of course it's the LOGITECH 3D Extreme Joystick.
Check it out!

If I was considering only a Joystick than I would go for Thrustmaster T.16000M for its precision. It should be more precise and cheaper than Logitech Extreme 3D.

I'll look into that. Not too big of a fan of a gamepad with a space sim just doesn't have the feel. At that point I'd stick with K&M

EDIT: I used to have an older version of it when it whas Silver. Works good for a bit then it loses its centering ability. Used to do a lot of PVP with Xwin vs Tie Fighter and Xwing Alliance and in those games the lack of accuracy killed you really quick. Did they improve on that?

Reviews on that one seem pretty good. I think it's around $30 which isn't bad. You have it? is it pretty sturdy and precise?

for the true budget gamer the best controllers are the ones you already have, for this reason i use an xbox 360 controller and an android tablet with Roccatt powergrid installed.

It's 35 USD for the logitech compared to 65 USD for the trustmaster ... LOGITECH is cheaper dude!

Yes am using it, it's pretty good for the price. Some review say it could last up to 3 years , I guess it all depends on how you use it and how often you play.

I just upgraded from my Saitek Cyborg Evo which I've had for donkeys to the Madcatz Fly 5, got it for 60 Dollars which is just over £30. Bargain if you ask me and £30ish doesn't seem a lot even for a poor man like me.

Nice joystick.

What else is needed for the Power Grid other than a tablet?

I think I'll go check it out after work sometime this week. Eventually I will get an X52 or something like that but I had to box up most of my stuff Including steering wheel/pedals and stands for when I have to move so now I got my laptop and a small play area that seems like the way to go for it.

Yep will get Saitek Joystick when I am good at the flight control and intend to play this game for a long while....

The Logitech Extreme 3D Pro does have quite a large footprint for a single 'stick, btw.

It does sit nicely on my mouse pull out tray when I am flying ... while my mouse take the reserve bench XD

I have a Fly 5 too. Got it for a pittance from a B grade stock house. Didn't work, of course (the Fly 5 has a bad reputation for dodgy fire buttons in the stick). Cracked it open, replaced the cheapo wiring with some high quality solid core kynar, and it works fine now.

I've been flying with it since just before PB. The twist rudder started acting up a couple of weeks ago (with VERY occasional use). It seems to yaw right whenever the Y axis changes. Increased the deadzone and it's better now, but I wouldn't recommend it for precision flying.

I've got aT.flight hotas x, it works fine for me. It's given me better control than keyboard/mouse. I'm sure other more expensive sticks would give even better control, but I just don't have $200+ to spend on a flight stick.
