Weeks of grinding wasted by the update, left the game

My player faction has been working hard to expand to a new home system. We had to expand to a pair of smaller systems first.

We started our final expansion from our home system that has a population of 4.8B and is challenging to get to 75%. We have a small number of active players, usually no more than 3-5 and I spent more time grinding than the rest combined because I'm retired and have lots of playtime.

After 2-3 weeks of brain-numbing grinding to raise our influence to 75% for the 3rd time, we succeeded. Our final expansion went from pending to active on Dec. 7th. We were within 2-3 days of expanding to our new home system. Then the update hit on the 11th. There was NO WARNING given, at least not an obvious one that all progress was going to be wiped out. First I heard that all progress was to be reset was a forum post by a Comm. Mod. several days after the update. Weeks of work wiped out. I would have posted this sooner but I've been going back and forth with Support seeing if there was any way to fix this. There's not.

I'm also not happy that the week I spent getting my name as "First Discovered By" on 11 Earth Like Worlds is erased if I understand correctly. But that wasn't a "leave the game issue", just a nuisance. I could always go back to those worlds, I made records of their locations.

But having weeks of doing boring missions erased is just too much frustration. I don't know if this was planned or a mistake, if planned they should have done a better job of advertising it. I was even going to have them close my account despite having 4.4B credits and almost all the ships in the game but my friends in my faction talked me out of that. But I don't think I'll be returning this time. I grew bored with the game in late 2017/early 2018 and left until this past July. The expansion was mostly my work, something to give me a goal. No way was I going to repeat those weeks of grinding influence missions.

I'm off doing other games now, and may consider a newly released space game very similar to ED. I'm curious if other player factions got shafted like mine did or if our case was isolated.

To be honest the BGS has been crazy since the update. Don’t give up it will work itself out over time. I have been playing x4 for awhile now it is a great game but has it own bugs. Elite dangerous is a good game you just have to have patients with it

I was stated that with the coming BGS changes, there would be a re-set. No, I'm not going to pour through the live-streams to give you a citation. Plus, it seems obvious, with the changes coming, that there had to be a re-set to accommodate the incoming changes.

Any first discoveries, delivered to a station before the patch, stand. There is a new 'First Mapped' tag that is brand new after the patch, but 1st discoveries are good.

I'm sorry for your disappointment, but the BGS has been significantly expanded. Factions can be in multiple states. there are new factors involved, and the progress bars offer more info. Maybe after your initial disappointments fade, you may be tempted to check in again.

If working the BGS was brain-numbing and boring for you, why do it? The game is supposed to be fun, not feel like a 2nd job you're not getting paid for. No wonder you're fed up at having to do it all again. However, as Mohrgan said, the BGS has been expanded since the update so it should give you more interesting options if you ever feel like giving it another go in the future.

Frontier respects your time?

Yep the rules have changed significantly now. A year or so ago I was with a group that played the BGS, and some of our key tactics are not possible any more. I will give OP one thing - BGS work is not for casuals. I miss being able to just devote a bunch of hours every night with my wing and going over the tick's results on discord the next morning.

After hearing the rumors about resets and the like I decided to do absolutely nothing but putter around and earn some credits at a snail's pace. I figured if I was gonna lose stuffs it wasn't gonna be much and I could find a few puppies to kick and work out my frustration. Ok so I wouldn't have kicked any puppies but I might have been miffed a little. Also, if you choose to stay in ED let me know where your faction is located and I'll come help by running data, cargo, or passenger missions... no charge. I got a few boats I can bring along.

Working for a goal of expanding into different systems can be a chore but the payoff is huge when it's completed. I've helped here and there doing this and yes, it can be brain numbing but "eyes on the prize"... Happy days are just around the corner. Unfortunately not in this case.

4.8bn population means it was an agri system, so one would expect lots of traffic that would buoy up the incumbent faction. Unfortunately, the way influence calculations works means that actually expanding from said system would have been a massive chore, even before the patch.

In that respect, OP, I feel for you, but I would ask you what possessed you to choose that as your home system in the first place.

I feel for you OP. Fdev really needs to up their game regarding comms on changes. It's not your fault you missed stream 2723 and therefore missed the bgs information. Something as fundamental as resetting states on the bgs should of been plastered on the launcher weeks before go-live

"We value our players time"....
