Another missed CQC opportunity: why didn’t FDev patch it into station services?

A good number of cmdr’s sit in stations messing around with engineering, loadouts, reading Galnet or just looking at mission boards or hanging out until departure time: why was the opportunity to patch CQC into station services taken recently?

If I’m at Jameson doing not a lot, clicked onto CQC and saw people waiting and playing I’d definitely hop in and out - it’s the great leveller: ships don’t matter, it’s skill vs skill.

Honestly FDev, it’s such an opportunity missed.

You think nobody will play so you don’t want to integrate it into station services. I think people don’t play as they can’t be bothered to start what’s essentially a different game from the main menu and wait for a match up.

Some want to practice combat without the risk of huge rebuys, some want to learn from scratch, some want to just mess around and have a laugh with mates or enemies - almost all of these people have grown up with CTF, death match etc and I personally love those modes as do a lot of others.

Make it easy and seamless to access and you’ll see people using it. Build it and they (he) will come!

[ ] ... because it is an arcade game that has no place in the actual game.

[ ] ... because everyone at F D is busy writing the new player manual.

[ ] ... because it is jobbie.

[ ] ... because you are not actually psychic so don't KNOW what "A good number of cmdr's" [sic] actually do - you just project your pre-conceptions to suit your argument.

* select the odd one out.

So a game has no place within a game? Sorry pal but ED isn’t a real life simulator you know, it’s all a game. Please explain why it has no place within ED? You have four ranking areas - combat, trade, exploration and CQC - so I’d suggest it has just as valid a place as any.

You can access all of the other three from within the main game so why not CQC?

There are enough posts, discord’s and CQC groups for CQC that I don’t need to be psychic to know it would be played, I just need to know how to read.

So a game has no place within a game? ..........

................. I just need to know how to read.

Yes you do - I said "ARCADE GAME" - so yes you need to read what you are "calling out".

BTW - There are some people who like CQC and that is all well and good, they can play it and have fun (when they can get a game) but just to indicate how much it lacks in popularity have a look at the CQC forum - 519 threads, 8324 posts - and that is in over 3 years. So I think that might give a hint why CQC "gets no love" from F D - it would appear to be pining for the fjords to all intents and purposes.

Tis a shame ye cant use yer own ships in CQC...that more than anything else means its just a still born idea and holds no interest fer me whatsoever.

Amazing right? A console player with zero interest in what has been described as a mini game designed fer console players...(according to the less than subtle idiots on this forum)

It wouldn't make sense to use your own 'real' ships in a game. The game lets you your own skills on ships that couldn't exist for real -- just as in real life. Isn't that fun -- just as in real life??

No because in real life I do use my own car when I pay two hundred quid a day to use the track...they dont supply stock cars unless ye buy them ^

Bleugh! CQC is where the bullies in the game should spend more time. It’s amazing fun. I am crap at it but love it. Would love it to be a ‘wait til your ship is relocated’ option. But it is already really.
Love Para Handy’s Xmas clobber....as a descendent of Barra’s finest! Play Oidche Bha by Vatersay Boys every new year!
Bring on cqc. It’s fine stuff.
Seasons greetings and apologies for whisky related ramblings. Hicmacmoc.

Ah you own your own track car in real life. Well that must make you in 0.028% :) of ED players and so I'm not surprised if you're harder to please than the rest :)

I never said it was a track car...its fully road legal and used as my everyday car, I just like racing it against others on a track where speeding and under cutting isnt against the law and is fun...real life fun.

CQC isnt fun cos its literally slf pvp...that might do it fer others but not me...its not complicated and its not that much fun, could have been so much more but...frontier ^

What would be way better is recycling CQC failure into something usefull ingame.

Say : system goes into incursion state, station under attack => emergency broadcast to 30 lyr radius => CMDR can take remote control of AX fighters to defend it

Similar idea could work for regular wars too. There is loads of ways to make use of those nifty fighters in game IMO.

The small fighters would also be cools for asteroid field and surface racing. That's another good way to recycle it.

OK, i'll update my statement. That must make you in 0.28% of ED players :)

Thats cool fer me...I was never one to just blindly follow the rest of the herd anyway...to know that such a small percentage puts fun above whats sensible makes me feel vindicated cos I know what Id rather have any day of the week ^

So what would you do with the arcade aspects of it - the power ups etc?

Sorry but to me these features make it totally incompatible with the main game.

The idea of having a "scenario" where you pilot fighters to defend a station or installation is fine, no issues with that as long as the power-ups are not included. So really a Babylon 5 or Battlestar Galactica emulator then? ;)

I think CQC is a far better simulation than what Elite has become.

In the maingame the flight model has been overshadowed by crazy hit point inflation while an elf princess nearly get married to some empire baron and the galaxy is invaded by some alien starfish.

So dont you dare thinking about putting your godmode whales in CQC you scrubs. It's about movement around geometry with a reasonable TTK, not slowly reverskying in the void with thousands of megajoules. There are CGs for that.

Bahaha this got me cracking up good, and it's true (though I still love it). Rep.

Same thing you do with the existing "arcade" aspects already in the game, like extra power pips for multicrew, infinite probe spam, "3D printed" fighters, payout multipliers for wings, engineered weapon special effects, premium synthesis powerup effects, etc.

Once it's in there, you will either delude yourself into believing that they somehow make sense and are plausible after all (usually by invoking the Pilots Federation), or you'll quietly seethe about it.

Great points.

At this stage in the game I have the feeling that CQC will not be seeing any updates or improvements :-(

Maybe we'll get something new with CQC in Elite Dangerous 2?

I presume the buckyball race has no place with the game either?

They could have added it to a system in the game and written some daft lore to justify its existence within the core game.
